Resigning during probation

Hello!

I accepted a job offer recently, and they actually waited for me for a month because I had to give my current employer 4 weeks’ notice. I started last week Monday, and today (Tuesday), I received another offer from a different company.

The second company is more well-known, pays about $5K more annually, and offers a hybrid setup after probation. However, it also has a high turnover rate, and the role is basically a step down from what I’m currently doing. I’d only be responsible for part of my current scope, although I was told there’s a possibility of being promoted eventually.

My current company is okay so far, but it pays $5K less, requires me to be onsite 5 days a week, and the position is only a 1-year contract. It’s also a boutique firm, so it’s not as recognizable.

I’m torn because I feel like having the more well-known company on my resume could open more doors in the future. At the same time, the role itself isn’t as good in terms of responsibilities and exposure. With my current company, I’d be exposed to more and probably have more opportunities to grow my skill set, even though the company isn’t as well-known.

Would you take the more recognizable company for the higher pay, hybrid setup, and potential future opportunities, even if the actual role is less senior? Or would you stay for the better scope and experience?

I’m also worried about quitting my current job after they waited a month for me to start. I really don’t want to burn bridges or leave a bad impression :((

Would love to hear what others would do in this situation! Especially for hiring managers ><

What should I do?

Hello everyone!

I got an offer from Company X. I accepted it and I’m starting in 2 weeks — currently doing the 2 weeks notice with my current job. With Company X, it’s a 1 yr contract job. Boutique law firm. Role will be law clerk.

Today, my dream company reached out to me for an interview this Monday. I’ve been applying to this company for like 8months now and finally got an interview request. Salary range the same with the new job and location wise, the same.

There’s no offer yet from my dream company but the role is pretty much an entry level for my niche with 3yrs experience, so quite confident.

Im thinking about just going to the interview and maybe turn down the offer since I wanted a higher position anyways and the interview is for an entry level or leave my new company if i get the job at my dream company. I don’t want to do the latter but if there’s no other choice then 🤷‍♀️☹️

Anyone been in the same situation? Any recruiters here who can give me their insights?😔😔😔

Cat Food Shopee

Hello!

May mga recos ba kayo for dry cat food sa Shopee?

May mga strays kasi samin na sinasaktan na ng iba kasi nagnanakaw ng food. Im not based in Ph kaya wala din akong magawa. Parents ko lang andun and non confrontational sila😩😩best I can do for now is pakainin sila para di na magnakaw.

So better if dry food and medj marami. Will provide water naman for them din😊

Should I quit?

I'm currently in **Company A**, responsible for 2 roles (altho it's pretty much manageable as i dont need to do the other role everyday as much)

Pros:

* Work environment is great
* i have job security
* co workers are great
* boss is great (treats us lunch lol) easy to talk to, asks us for our insights
* Every time clients are being an ass, management really has your back.
* When employees messes up, management has your back.

Cons:

* pay is low 38k annual
* no health insurance just a budget per employee for the whole year
* minimum vacation days and no paid sick days
* small company

I got an offer at **Company B**, role is more on reception and not administrative tasks

Pros:

* pay is higher 55k annual
* with health insurance
* extra vacation days and extra paid sick days
* bigger and older company (quite known in the area)

Cons:

* contract based, for an employee on maternity leave
* co workers are older (idk how itll be as i have only been working with same age as me - they seem sweet tho)

Honestly, I'm so torn. I really like my current company but the pay is so low I need to take on extra jobs just to survive. While the other company, idk how the work environment is but i dont think I have job security as im only covering for someone.

Any advice? ><

RCBC's lack of Banking Security

My mom has fallen victim to a scammer "pretending" to be from RCBC.

My mother is generally cautious when it comes to online and mobile banking. She is aware of common scams and understands the importance of not sharing OTPs, avoiding suspicious links, and not downloading unknown applications. Although she occasionally needs assistance with technology, she has successfully avoided scams in the past.

The call showed concern regarding "late payments" and that she has always paid her due dates on time for the previous months and years and it has been flagged because for the past couple of months, payments were late; and my mom explained she can't check her eStatements, the caller said it's probably because she recently upgraded her card from X to Y, and she needs to enroll Y card to see it - which is true. She even helped my mom enroll the card and it did allow her to view the eStatements and transactions again. Then the scammer said she has a lot of rewards points and she can help her redeem them but she can't redeem them just yet if she won't pay for the "late" due amounts. She even knows how much is available on her savings and checking accounts, knows how much balance on her credit cards, and even knows her email connected to that bank account.

So she "helped" my mom pay her balance thru unlipay via an account. This account is UNDER HER NAME and the account number was dictated by the "RCBC Employee". After that, they asked her if the 50,000 reflected on her account, when she said no, they told her to do the process again. This happened 4x which equated to 200,000.

No OTP shared. No suspicious links clicked. Just pure manipulation backed by insider level information.

On the 3rd day, my mom called us to consult whether this might be a scam as the caller has been calling again. 10 am with 8 missed calls. SCAMMY.

RCBC was informed and the employee cancelled the "pending" transaction and blocked her card. Their solution? We repay the 200k at 0% interest, BULLSHIT. This will not happen if my mom's info weren't compromised by the bank. They said the transfer proceeded because she gave the authorization (even if she didn't share the OTP). I called bs again since the "payment"/transfer will not happen if the scammer have not built trust by knowing what's going on in her account. She has dealt with countless legit bank employees over the phone as she has always been a regular to some banks given the nature of our business.

They filed it for dispute for now but tbh this shit is just RCBC being complacent with their customer's security. Operating a whole ass banking business without a proper cybersecurity is bullshit. I would get it if the scammer just called her and tried to scam her by sending them money without giving her infos about her bank or asking for OTPs and she gave it away, but she didn't.

Thinking about escalating this to BSP. I've already read countless of scammer stories from banks in the Philippines and how they handled it and it's still those banks passing their liabilities to clients. As clients, we should demand accountability for these so called banks. How come their cybersecurity is that shit? And fine shit happens, but why not take accountability? Also, this might lowkey be an insider thing, those information are accessible by RCBC employees too. This raises serious concerns about how customer data is being protected by these banks. Because scammers don’t just “guess” this level of detail.

RCBC DO YOUR FUCKING JOB. PROTECT YOUR CUSTOMER'S DATA.

Concerts & Smells

Went to my first concert in Toronto today. The artist was amazing, but my rowmates? Absolutely not.

I'm talking full on body odor. It was so bad that I ended up standing by the wall for the whole show (which is wild when I paid for an actual seat) because I genuinely felt nauseous. I know Toronto is so big on being considerate about scents in public spaces, but somehow showing up to a packed concert smelling like you haven't met a shower in days is totally acceptable? PUHLEAAASE. If you're going to be in a place with people — especially not your people, please please plewse shower or use deodorant. Do literally anything. I understand we have different cultures here but IT IS FUCKING BAD. One girl wore a fucking mask lmao

Great concert. Terrible air quality😣

MAcc Foreign Undergrad

Hello!

I finished my undergrad abroad and I’m thinking about doing MAcc. I’m thinking about whether to just do a transfer credits at York U’s Bcomm Acctg (to earn a Canadian degree) or do MAcc since my goal is to get CPA license and work for B4.

I read that Schulich is very strict in outside Schulich applicants and also getting to B4 is harder if not from Schulich.

Any advice on which pathway should I do? 😣

PS: got my degree assessed and it’s a 4yr bachelors degree so will make me eligible for masters.
