Advice needed

I apologize if this is the wrong sub for this type of question but I’m not too sure where to turn.

I was given a collection of boxes from a family member who was a sports agent for many years. He represented many clients over the years but one in particular was a Hall of Fame player. In these boxes is what I would call 99% of every form of document such as email correspondence, contract, sports card production artwork, marketing deals, trademark filings, etc….many original documents as well as copies of the originals. There are thousands of documents spanning around 15 years of representation for that one client all mostly in chronological order.

I really have no way of knowing but I’d imagine this is one of the most complete client/agent collections assembled, pre digitization.

Is this something an archivist would be interested in looking at? Is this something I SHOULD have archived? What would even be an estimated cost for whatever I should have done with this?

I really have very limited info other than some GPTing which even led me to the term ARCHIVIST lol.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Anniversary Ideas

Hello San Diego Food sub,

I’m looking for any recommendations for an anniversary dinner for my wife and I. I try to come up with somewhere new each year for the most part and while Google and Open Table provide some answers, I’d like some first hand opinions.

I’ll provide some restaurants we’ve gone to before just as an idea of what we’ve tried. I’ll eat just about anything but my wife is on the pickier side but any place that has some sort of fish meal will work (crab cakes are a plus).

Places we’ve been:

Flemings
Born and Raised
Lou and Mickey’s
Oceanaire (RIP)
Eddie V’s
Morton’s
Del Frisco’s
Mister A’s
Ruth’s Chris
Marine Room
Coasterra
Steak 44
Poseidon

Might be forgetting a couple but I think that’s a good start. Thanks for any suggestions!

PBA Rumors

Credit to Jerry Marrs

Some rumors going around FB this morning:

Cancelling the senior tour

Ending the PBA regional system in its current form and moving to a 3 regional per year system

No long allowing non members

Center hosting fees will be moving from 3500 to 10,000 per event

Entry fees going from 325 to 500

Supposedly moving to a similar type of system that the PWBA uses for their regionals.

Overall opinion: just terrible. 80% of the current regional bowlers would have absolutely no reason to keep their cards and these “super regionals” will just get run over by the National tour guys with $10k up top.

July 4th Episode (Spoiler)

Found it kind of odd that they played Nightbirde’s song in the background of other acts and showed the choir who performed her song, but didn’t play her actual audition throughout the episode.

Just found it strange given the them of the episode

Appreciation Post

Hello,

I’m a US resident who made a trip to Ireland about 9 years ago with my wife for our honeymoon and while the entire 2 weeks was amazing, our time in Galway was hands down our absolute favorite. We were to be in Galway for about 2 days and the day before we were to drive in, we were told about Galway having just won the All-Ireland Hurling Championship for the first time in 27 years (IIRC) the day prior and to expect a celebration when the team arrived home.

The joy and happiness that we felt walking around the city, especially the first night, was something I’d never experienced before (my hometown sports teams have never won anything in their history lol) and we couldn’t have had a better time. We couldn’t believe the timing we had with that being part of our trip and we would love to make it back at some point in the future.

I just wanted to throw a thank you out there for being such a welcoming city and really leaving a lasting impression on a few tourists!

MySpace Notalgia

A little throwback question but way back in the MySpace days there was a Mob themed game called Mafia Wars I believe. You could attack other rivals, build your crime family and while it was pretty low effort, it was fun.

Is there anything similar to that game out there now? Social media based or app based?

Tip of the Day #2 - Surface

(Intermediate-Advanced)

One of the most important aspects of bowling is the surface of the bowling ball and its impact on bowling ball motion as it goes down the lane. Learning how to alter the surface and using that tool to create a shot that fits your game can lead to a significant increase in scores.

What Surface Actually Does

When you sand a bowling ball, you’re creating microscopic peaks and valleys on the coverstock. Those imperfections increase traction between the ball and the lane. As you bowl, those peaks and valleys become gradually wear down. Eventually, the surface becomes smoother and more uniform, resulting in what bowlers commonly call lane shine. This is why a ball can react significantly different after 3-6 games than it did when it was freshly surfaced.

Why Surface Matters

Surface allows you to influence where the ball begins reading the lane. On a typical house shot, the pattern already provides built-in miss room. There’s oil in the middle to hold the ball and friction outside to help it recover. The look to the pocket is essentially given to you.
On flatter sport conditions, that built-in hold and hook often doesn’t exist. One way to create that look is with surface. By increasing traction, the ball can burn through oil sooner and begin creating a more predictable motion. Instead of relying entirely on down-lane friction, you’re allowing the ball to start its transition earlier.

In general:

Lower grits (500–2000) create more traction and an earlier read.

Higher grits (3000–5000+) create less traction and push the ball farther down the lane.

Polish typically creates the longest and most responsive reaction.

Surface and Predictability

One of the biggest reasons bowlers use surface on tougher patterns isn’t to create more hook. It’s to create more predictability. The earlier a ball begins to hook, the less dramatic its motion tends to be down lane.

That often means:

Less over/under.
Fewer surprise jumps off friction.
Better pocket control.
More forgiveness on flatter conditions.
In many cases, the goal isn’t a bigger hook. The goal is a more controlled hook.

Why Urethane Works for So Many Players

This is also why many bowlers love urethane. Urethane naturally wants to roll earlier than reactive resin. When surface is added, that effect becomes even more pronounced.

The result is often:
Earlier roll.
Reduced down-lane response.
Increased predictability.
Easier pocket control on certain conditions.
That’s not to say urethane is always better. It’s simply another example of how earlier ball motion can make the lane easier to read and manage.

My Personal Approach

I touch up my equipment before every league and tournament. I rarely use anything above 2000 grit because higher grits generally don’t create the shape I’m looking for. With my rev rate, I’m usually not using surface to create hook. I’m using surface to manage and control ball reaction. For me, surface helps create a smoother, more predictable motion and gives me greater control over where the ball reads the lane.

The Biggest Lesson

There is no universal “best” surface.
Some bowlers prefer 500 grit.
Some prefer 2000.
Others prefer 4000 or polish.

The correct answer depends on:
Rev rate.
Ball speed.
Axis rotation.
Lane surface.
Oil volume.
Pattern shape.
The reaction you’re trying to create.

Pros

✅ Creates a more predictable and controllable ball motion.

✅ Allows you to adjust where the ball reads the lane.

✅ Can help break down a pattern or create a more stable reaction on difficult conditions.

Cons

❌ Too much surface can “blow up” a pattern instead of breaking it down, especially when multiple players are using it.

❌ The wrong surface at the wrong time can create the exact reaction you’re trying to avoid.

❌ Surface is not a substitute for experience, lane reading, and execution.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Venom Hysteria

I’ve seen a few posts asking about different pieces from the Motiv line so here’s a quick shot from the Venom Hysteria. Easily one of my favorites to come out this year.

Found this interesting: Bonds played in 2986 games and faced 1245 different pitchers. Trout has played in 1707 games and faced 1310 different pitchers.

Obviously it’s a different game now than 25 years ago but I always find these types of statistics very interesting.

EXJ Covert Recon

For anyone who was a fan of the discontinued Primal Shock like I was, the ball is a little smoother and a little slower off the spot but overall VERY close. Big fan so far

The Rock has a very fragile ego and hurt the Hart Roast because of it.

Based on reviews of the Kevin Hart roast I’ve seen this is probably an unpopular opinion but everyone knew the Rock would be part of it but he couldn’t sit in on the panel like everyone else? He couldn’t take an ego hit for a bit and let people make some jokes? It was 100% a b*tch move to show up at the end, joke about everyone else and end the show.
