Is wait it out the only option?

Hi folks.

I have a 4 month old baby who wakes up I don’t even know how many times as I BF and safely cosleep so just feed him back to sleep any time he rouses. I also have a 3.5 year old daughter who has only in the last few months started sleeping through the night.

I will never do any form of leaving my baby alone or crying sleep training but I’m wondering if there’s a middle ground between that and just waiting for things to get better themself?

Are there things I can do to encourage better sleep? Am I encouraging waking by feeding back to sleep at every wake?

How often do you switch mugs?

Throughout the day when you’re having tea/coffee, how often are you changing your mug? I’m talking about either a full wash or getting a new one out.

If you’re a chain tea/coffee drinker do you just keep the same mug all day? If you have a tea/coffee every 3 hours or so are you getting a new mug out?

My parents wash/get a new mug out every time meaning they’ve gone through 10 mugs between them by the end of the day which seems crazy to me but would like to know what the norm is.

Help with toddler hair

My daughter (3.5) has gorgeous curls but I am struggling to do them justice.

I condition her hair 3x per week with cantu for kids conditioner in the bath and at one of those, I also shampoo with cantu for kids shampoo before conditioning.

Each morning I brush her hair after generously spraying either cantu for kids detangler or the child’s farm one.

I usually always let it air dry unless it’s too close to bed time and her hair is still wet, then I’ll use the hairdryer with diffuser attachment. Her curls look lovely after conditioning/spraying but after a few hours or the next morning they are really matted, dry and frizzy.

She doesn’t wear anything on her hair to bed as she won’t tolerate this.

Any recommendations for either a different routine or products please?

Is my compost bin the TARDIS?

I have been filling this compost bin for 2 YEARS!

Every single day, a whole bucket of veg scraps and paper/card etc goes in. The last 2 years worth of grass cuttings have gone in there.

It gets near the top and then a week or so later it’s back down again.

When will it fill up?

Zipped sleepsuits are a lie.

Whoever has recommended zipped sleepsuits and talked about how amazing and easy they are compared to poppers are liars funded by Big Zip.

How on earth are people finding these easier than poppers?! I feel like I am wrestling a chicken thigh back in when I have to change my baby. Also, they always seem to be way smaller than popper sleepsuits for the same size.

Am I doing something wrong and I’ve still to unlock the magic of a zipped sleepsuit?

What is normal parenting?

I have a 3.5 year old and a newborn and I’m just wondering what normal parenting looks like? All I see is posts about parents that never yell at their child and have a dreamy, calm time with no butting heads or arguments.

How often are you telling off your kids? How often do you play with them? How often are you correcting their behaviour? Do you always speak to them kindly?

I feel like I’m maybe not always speaking in the warmest voice to my daughter, sometimes if she’s not listening I’ll be quite blunt with my instructions(no warm voice, more stern). I will ignore her sometimes when she’s having a tantrum and I’ve tried everything to solve it. Very rarely (once a month maybe) when she’s totally screaming and out of control I will shout at her to “just stop it and be quiet” and I feel like the worst person ever.

I sometimes wish I was a fly on the wall of other families so I could see what their parenting and day-to-day life looks like.

So yeah, what does an average day of parenting look like for you?

Does baby sleep better on dad’s side?

Hello all.

I’ve seen some articles and social media posts about how if you move the crib/bassinet to dads side of the bed baby will sleep longer as they’re not smelling you as much. Has anyone tried this and it’s worked? Any evidence for it?

I need a mantra to stop me going crazy!

My baby boy is 6 weeks old today and every spare minute I have I find myself googling/searching Reddit “when does baby sleep get better” and it’s driving me crazy.

He’s my second and my first was a terrible sleeper but I know it passes, I just don’t know how to get that to sink into my head so o feel like I need a mantra I can repeat over and over and hopefully it’ll sink in.

What do you say to yourself to get through the uncertainty of better sleep?

Crib on dad’s side. Does it help with sleep?
