Heating device advice

Based in the UK - We have a Worcester boiler (2021) and the heating is controlled by a fairly crude temperature gauge on the wall. Looking to upgrade to a Hive or similar for the winter months and wondered if this is a fairly simple DIY job or if a professional is advised?

And which system would you guys recommend?

Thanks so much.

Wallpapering advice

About to wallpaper the four walls in this room.

We have a window that sticks out (not sure on the technical name, sorry!).

Should I wallpaper parts B and C and keep A as only paint to match the ceiling, or wallpaper A, B and C?

Or none of the above!

Thanks v much.

Do you think the signwriter forgot the occasional word or is this done for stylistic or grammatical effect?

Why were these ever a thing?

I’ve got these light switch surrounds across my (new to me) property and have never seen them before. Do they even serve a purpose?

To keep or remove?

This is in the box room of our 1930s house. Getting it skimmed next week and wondered if worth keeping this vent or taking it off and asking plasterer to fill and cover.

We have had new windows done with trickle vents.

Is it advisable to remove before plastering anyway in case we want to add a new style cover?

Thanks!

One machine, two bedrooms

Hi all,

I’m bracing myself for 37 degrees in London on Wednesday and the 30 degree heat expected at 10pm.

I have a baby that sleeps in their own room, and myself and my partner are next door.

I have a Penguino portable AC machine that we generally use to cool the baby’s room before bed.

Is there a way for a single machine to cool both rooms at the same time, perhaps by occupying a third room with all the doors open?

I obviously need a window and a suitable place to put a bucket for the run off.

Any tips? Should I get some portable fans involved?

Thanks!

Tony Livesey

I notice that Tony Livesey’s past associations with David Sullivan have been mentioned a few times in today’s coverage (twice on the BBC News website). He’s denied ever being involved.

He’s not presenting his usual late night programme this evening, perhaps for obvious reasons.

I wonder if he can survive?
