If you write and you want to be able to discuss AI without judgement, you're welcome at freewriters

I made the sub ages ago and it's not very active, but since many other writing subs have gone draconian anti-AI in all applications, anyone who was put off by that is welcome to join freewriters I can't link directly due to policy here, but hopefully you can cut and paste!

Wooden bench encrusted with thick lichen

I was fascinated by the level of lichen on this bench near my home, and took photos. Then wondered/hoped there would be a community interested in it, and was delighted to find this place!

The bench is in Sydney, Australia. We're currently in winter with some rainy weather recently.

Katie Price (UK model Jordan) has "written" 12 bestselling novels – her second one, Crystal, outsold the entire Booker Prize shortlist when it came out in 2007

That will teach the Booker Prize judges for failing to longlist or shortlist any of the novels I've never got round to writing or submitting!

[KCD2] Killing Laszlo or any of his Cumans counted as murder/Civilian

I noticed this after first killing Laszlo (in the Ransom quest) and his body has Rob not Loot. After talking to Jan for the reward, it changes to Loot.

I reloaded and avoided Laszlo and just killed one of his Cumans (who attacked me first). Again, another Civilian death.

So I reloaded again and just ran around in a circle, feeling like the world's biggest coward. The others killed off Laszlo and his Cumans, all good - Laszlo's body already has Loot (before talking to Jan) and I have no added Civilian deaths on my stats.

Weird colourisation/saturation on "remastered" P&P 1995

Just curious as to whether anyone else has experienced this - the recent thread on Jane Austen characters' hair colour made me wonder if others view a similarly distorted version. This shot shows - all on the same LG smartTV, and just taken with my iPhone"

  • Britbox Australia "remastered" version
  • Downloaded (older) version I have on an SD drive
  • Amazon Prime Australia version

Also no other shows on Britbox, including period dramas, have this bizarre saturation issue, so I don't think it can be my TV or the app that's the problem.

My daughter gets to do Pride & Prejudice for Year 11 and Emma for Year 12

Watching Colin Firth in his wet shirt is now "homework" ;)

I'm just so happy that these wonderful texts are on the high school syllabus here (NSW, Australia). She has already read P&P and watched the 1995 more than a dozen times, but Emma will be a new - and hopefully lovely - experience.

The most revolting Top Tip I remember...

This would have been probably in the 1990s back when I was living in the UK and getting Viz regularly, or when I first came to Australia and used to get it from a news stand in the city. I'm sure it was Viz as I didn't read any other similar comics (and I'm sure it wasn't in my brother's Beano).

> "A peeled fishfinger in a used condom makes a great boil-in-the-bag cod in parsley sauce"

It's burnt into my brain it's so vile. Does anyone else remember it? Or others that have stuck with you through the decades?

LOVING this game but thank god I watched and read a tonne of Beginners' Guides before starting [KCD2]

It's a brilliant game but without reading and watching so many Beginner videos and hints and tips, god knows where I'd be!

I'm now getting to a comfortable stage - still very early, just did the Blacksmith/Hermit but have yet to find Mutt etc - however I've made my three outfits (still weak, but Combat, Charisma and Sneak) and I've gathered together about 1,000 coins and have a load of Saviour potions so I feel quite set.

I have been spamming the hell out of Save & Quit as well! Thank goodness reloads are relatively fast on my Xbox.

Loads of you in this subreddit have also been super helpful in the past threads I've been reading, so thanks for that too!

I feel Mrs Phillips, played by Lynn Farleigh, doesn't always get the appreciation she deserves. It's a smaller role but she's absolutely excellent in her two main scenes (credit also must go to the writers):

  • Playing hostess to Mr Collins and all his ghastly tactlessness
  • The absolutely marvellous "Oh, Sister!" scene where she frankly relishes the horror of Lydia's situation - "in which more things were broken beyond repair than heads and furniture, sister!"

It's actually my favourite scene in the whole production, even above the Lady C de B haranguing Lizzy in the "prettyish kind of a little wilderness".

Lynn Farleigh's delivery and her facial expressions are just perfect. I wish the plot had enabled more of her!
