Does this count? 0.96" screen!

I made this custom arcade controller and definitely felt some cyberpunk/cyberdeck builder vibes while I was working on it.

Credit to Banksy for the graffiti.

Credit to gp2040 community edition for the firmware I used in the raspberry pi Pico that powers the screen.

Credit to me for CAD design, printing, assembly, wiring, soldering, and testing.

The screen shows the mode (currently x-input), current button and joystick presses, as well as a history of presses. It can do macros and many other things.

Latency within the controller is too small for me to measure. Supposedly just a few microseconds.

Features:

  • integrated art
  • flush press, rimless buttons
  • no surface fasteners
  • print in place buttons allow the art to cross the surface of the controller easily

Still to do:

  • move pi pico to edge of controller to allow for external usb-c connection. Right now the pico is kinda flopping around in there with an external wire connected to it.
  • improve wiring / wire routing
  • more support for joystick side
  • Pinball style sidebuttons

Vita3k - Android Update - Gameplay Demo! Ayn Thor (Snapdragon 8 Gen2) - This is like getting a whole new console handed to me. 100s of playable games!

Featuring:

  • Dragon's Crown
  • Gravity Rush
  • Muramasa Rebirth
  • Senran Kagura - Estival Versus (CRASHED! or it was loading so slow I ran out of patience, this has the 18+ Nude patch so that may have contributed)
  • Tales of Innocence R (English Patched)
  • Tales of Hearts R

These games were previously non-existant to me because I wouldn't put up with Vita3k's kludgy GUI and it seemed to crash constantly!

What's a cheap and well tested kit?

I was going to start with the 3dp90 but I'm thinking maybe I should set my sites alittle lower.

Designed and 3d printed my own fightstick

Picture looks really weird and sparkly, not sure why.

3d printed GP2040-CE controller

First prototype of my GP2040CE Controllers

  • integrated art (rat art credit to banksy!)
  • flush press, rimless buttons
  • no surface fasteners
  • print in place buttons allow the art to cross the surface of the controller easily

Still to do:

  • move pi pico to edge of controller to allow for external usb-c connection. Right now the pico is kinda flopping around in there with an external wire connected to it.
  • improve wiring / wire routing
  • more support for joystick side

If I do all that I'll be pretty happy with it!

edit: someone came in here and downvoted all the comments. why bro?

What shader setup do you use for on 640x480?

I was playing Castlevania 3 today and I tried CRT-Consumer(as recommended by u/TheTechDweeb) on my Miyoo Flip V1. I got very strange results (see image). I would've used CRT-Mattias but it does not seem to be included with my version of spruce.

I just switched to sharp shimmerless but I'm kinda missing scanlines even though it is a pretty small screen.

I hate CRT geometry distortion btw, I'm really just looking for a sharp(ish) image with scanlines!

What's your setup for a 640x480 screen?

Anyone play Interstate '76? "Auto Vigilantes" performing Vehicular combat!

The graphics embraced their polygon glory.

The soundtrack is still great to this day.

The game featured surprisingly complex controls. Like it came with a quick reference card complex.

The cars were knock-offs of the real deal. Your Picard Piranha is is based on the Plymouth Barracuda. Right down to the 'Ranha vs 'Cuda decal.

I would love to see a modern remaster. Here's an AI upscale of one of the original wallpapers. The game is very moddable, if any of those type of people are listening!

Protip: You can turn off your engine to dodge heat seeking missiles.

RGB Buttons lighting up?

Is there a way for retroarch to light up only the buttons in use in a specific game? I.E. You're playing metal slug A, B, C buttons light up Red, Yellow, and Green. The rest of the buttons turn off. You're playing flycast and ABXY light up red, yellow, blue, green, L and R light up white and everything else turns off.

I don't mean a specific brand either I mean features.

I feel like gp2040 ce went a long way toward us realizing our stick dreams.

What would you like to see in the future? Or not see?

  • Handles
  • Hinges
  • MIDI
  • Per game dynamic lighting (I want this)
  • Extra stick for your dick
  • Bigger screen support
  • Underwater functionality

I know everyone wants more / simpler console support.

I got one of these babies (a casiotone sa-51) and a raspberry pi Pico. Well I assume a Chinese knockoff with USB-c and supposedly 16mb (storage? ram?).

Here's a lovely review of it.

I'd like to increase it's awesomeness by adding midi to it.

I feel like it has been done but I can't find any info on it.

Looking for help and advice.

I see u/todbot has done something a bit similar.

Is it as simple as demuxing the key signals?

Here is Veritasium's video.

I'm trying to recreate this effect with gears, but it is NOT working!

Here's my attempt.

I anticipated that the large gear would roll backwards when force was applied and that the gear carriage would move forward.

I really just want to replicate his result. The top rack moving, the bottom rack remaining in place, and the carriage moving faster than that top rack.

Can anyone explain what I need to do to make this happen?

Office supply stores will make a 24x36 print of an "engineering drawing" or blueprint for you for $5. 36x48 for $10! That's quite large, bigger than you probably want to deal with.

In order to get them at that price they have to be black and white, color is much more expensive but as frugal foot-soldiers in this economy we can definitely come up with some very cool use cases for those right?

Here's a few suggestions:

  • Print a map for your next D&D session. We play with a piece of plexi over the map.
    • Draw one yourself with dungeon scrawl.
    • If you're not feeling creative enough check out r/battlemaps to see what your fellow redditors have made.
    • Donjon will generate RPG maps/worlds for you randomly.
  • Make a stencil for painting - ahem - outdoor art. I'm sure there are legit uses for this. banksy himself uses stencils to get his art up quick, or he did in the old days.
  • Protest signs!!
  • Huge coloring project - There are tools that will take your color image and make it into a coloring book style page. That's cool enough but making it poster size could turn that image into a fun (?) date or group / family project.
    • Google gemini and I'm sure other ai art services can do this
    • old manga might be another good source for this

If you can think of any other uses for a very large black and white print let us know!!

P.S. They usually give them to me in a big tube so... bonus CARDBOARD SAMURAI FIGHT.
