First-time solo hostel experience in Berlin at 28 - am I not too old?

Hi Everyone

I have never travelled alone before. Next month I was supposed to visit Berlin with a friend of mine however the plans have changed and he is not available anymore(and neither is our mutual friend that was supposed to house us).

So, for the first time in my life I decided to go alone, and I know that its a little dumb, but I feel like I'm a little too old to be staying in a bunk bed with random people at a hostel. At the same time my budget is tight so that would be the smartest decision. Last year I stayed at a hostel with my friends in Lisbon (we had a whole room just for us) and I felt like we were the oldest people there, everyone looked so young, it was a strange experience. Am I just imagining things?

Does anyone have any hostel recommendations?

Thanks and sorry for my ignorance!

[IWantOut] 28M RtR Financial Accountant Poland -> Germany/Netherlands/Spain

Hey, I'm a 28-year old (M) from Poland.

I have 2 degrees, bsc in Computer Science and Bsc in Logistics from a university of economics. For the past 4 years ive been working in corporate accounting as an RtR analyst at international companies such as Shell and British Airways (my current employer is the airline conglomerate IAG). I have also done a 12 month internship at Hitachi as a Procurement Analyst.

The reasons for my move are not financial. I am fed up with my country and city. My whole life I have dreamt of living abroad and I realized recently that if I don't start following my dreams it may soon be too late as Im not getting any younger. I also have no girlfriend, zero family and other social ties to my current city/region so its unlikely I will miss anything by making the move. I only have 2 acquaintances that I go to the bars a few times a month and I am miserable right now to say the least.

I have been to Barcelona many times and a very good friend of mine lives there and he would definitely include me in his social life and circles. Sadly he works in hospitality so I cant rely on him to help me get any accounting jobs.

I have also been to Amsterdam many times and know some people there. I am aware of the housing crisis so this is definitely a thing that is putting me off. However I do know a girl who actually works in accounting there (she is ukrainian) and she is giving me hope that finding a job in my field wont be to hard.

Finally there is Berlin. I have never been to berlin and I plan to travel there to see it this year.

Germany is my first choice because I already know B2 german. I can understand 85% of all written text in german. Also, berlin is the best choice because of the relatively cheap housing(only slightly more expensive than krakow) and good paying jobs(unlike barcelona).

However my goal would be to get an english speaking international corporate job first before i polish my language skills. Right know i work fully in english, and have for the entirety of my career had english speaking jobs. I know that in amsterdam there are also plenty of english speaking accounting jobs, based on what my friend told me. What is the situation in germany?

I have looked at job offers on indeed/glassdoor in berlin and there actually are quite a few positions for international companies like mine. What is scaring me is the amount of german speaking positions though. In Poland 99% of corporate jobs are almost fully in english, even my own boss doesn't speak polish. Is the situation different in germany?

What are my chances of getting a job by getting a remote interview and after I get a job offer starting to look for apartments/rooms for rent? I dont mind living frugally at first, I can even live in a hostel/airbnb for some time. I know about anmeldung, but what if I lie? is it actually checked? In poland we also have anmeldung but ive been disclosing my parents address and the companies never check it.

Any tips and help would be greatly appreciated.

Coming to Brazil for 2 weeks. Is a day trip to Sao Paulo worth it?

Hello guys, we are travelling to brazil in November this year, from 12th till 26th to be specific.

For now this is how we planned our trip:

12-15 arrival in Rio and seeing all the most famous sights

16-19 trip to cabo de Frio/Buzios to experience some better beaches and life outside of a big city

19-20 back in rio

Then on the 21st we have a football match planned so at the earliest we could leave on the 22nd and we would have to be back in rio on the 25th to check out and arrive on time to get back home.

I know that is seems like a stupid question and that many people could travel to 3 different cities in that time, but we are not the type of people to rush from one place to another. We want to explore the nightlife, the beaches, also the local nature sites/national parks and I feel like travelling to sao paulo could sabotage this and take away the enjoyment from naturally exploring Rio like we would like to. We would like to spend at least 2-3 days just chilling at the beach and exploring and not worrying that we are loosing precious time.

At the same time, we don't know when we will back in this country, maybe never, and we would like to visit any other city that is not rio just to have a comparison what life is like there etc.

Do you think this is feasible? Is it even worth visiting a mega city like sao paulo for such a short time? Perhaps there are some closer towns worth exploring more that give a glimpse of local life? Or maybe we should not go to cabo frio and choose sao paulo instead?

I know that Rio and the surrounding areas are more than enough for those 2 weeks, so maybe travelling somewhere else is a stupid idea after all.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated, from locals and former travelers alike.

Bytom Bobrek and Lipiny Świętochłowice, Silesia, Poland

The dilapitated cities of Bytom and Świętochłowice. If you want to see more of this area please watch this urban exploration channel, it looks even more depressing on the videos. The channel is not mine but I grew up in this area so I can confirm that this is what it actually looks like, its not an exaggeration .

Why do so many in long term relationships people gain weight/get out of shape?

I was recently talking with a friend about our childhood friends, and we both noticed that practically all of those who have married or are in long-term relationships have become incredibly out of shape. There's no gender rule here. I know there's a common belief that people stop caring after marriage, but I find it hard to believe it's such a common occurrence, especially since many of these people previously trained intensely in various sports, only to meet their significant other in their twenties, and literally look worse and worse with each passing year. Are people really that lazy? What do you think causes this? Or am I just imagining things?

Botched gyno/aureola reduction surgery*? Devastated with the(lack of) results

For reference: the first 2 photos are pre-op, the other 3 are post op, the last picture is the result I wanted to achieve.

Hello guys. I am in my late twenties and have struggled with gynecomastia and nipple enlargement ever since i hit puberty. I have been ashamed of taking of my shirt for most of my life, despite having an active lifestyle.

At the beginning of this year i have finally decided to put an end to my misery and paid a visit to a local surgeon. Unfortunately, bound by my limited budget(i live in eastern europe) i didn't properly research his credentials, although he seems to have glowing reviews on google when it comes to plethora of plastic surgeries he does at his clinic.

During my first visit I have informed him that my biggest insecurity is the size of my nipples when they are in a "relaxed" state (he offered to perform a liposuction), I don't have a problem with the way my chest looks like when they are contracted (see attached photos for reference). Naturally I have undergone an ultrasound which confirmed that I do indeed have small gynecomastia, however I can hardly feel it with my own hands when I grab the area around my nipples.

During my second visit he told me that if I did choose to go along with the surgery, the results would not make a huge visual change due to relatively small gynecomastia. Instead, he offered to perform an aureola reduction surgery. Before we set up the date, I've told him twice that I want my aureolas to be of the same size when they are in a relaxed state as when they are contracted(which at that moment was approx. 3cm/a little over 1inch). Despite that, he didn't perform any measurements. I didn't question him, I thought that perhaps he is smart enough to know what kind of results i am expecting.

Instead, he only asked me to specify what size I wanted, when I was already lying on the operating table and injected with tramadol. He showed me a steel ring and asked me if this size is "fine".

Unfortunately, the final result can be seen on the photos above. I still can't believe it, but literally nothing has changed. How is this possible? He has definitely cut a little bit of tissue since it took me over a month to get back to Unfortunately i didn't accurately measure my aureolas before vs after so I don't know how to even address this guy in my upcoming check-up.

I am simply devastated, I had to take out a loan to fix my lifelong insecurity and it feels like I literally threw my money into trash. I don't know where to go from here.

Can I still be saved? What type of procedure do I need to undergo to finally make my chest look normal? And how do I speak to a surgeon to make him understand what results I want to achieve(last photo for reference) ?

Inguinal hernia laparoscopy and an overseas trip. Should I postpone the surgery?

Hello guys. I am faced with a serious dilemma. At the beginning of this year I started experiencing pain in the crotch area. Initially i thought that its just a torn muscle but to rule out all possibilities I went for a routine check up with my surgeon who then performed the Valsalva maneuver and informed my that I have a very small(invisible) inguinal hernia which I later confirmed with an ultrasound. The doctor told me to continue with my workout routine but to avoid all the workouts which cause me to experience pain. So I started avoiding deadlifts, squats etc. But outside of that I experience zero pain day to day. Still I decided to go through with the surgery and its supposed to take place in the second week of September.

However, In the beginning of November I am planning a 3 week long trip around brazil which will include going through the Amazon rainforest and other physically strenuous activites. I was assured by my surgeon that I don't need to worry about that since within 6 weeks I will be "like new". However I began to seriously doubt that and after speaking to 2 of me friends who had the same surgery, now I think my surgeon is full of bs. The friends told me that it took them almost 6 months to fully regain their pre-surgery fitness levels.

What do you think I should do? I think I already know the answer but I just wanted to get a confirmation from the internet before I make the final decision to change the date. Im still perplexed about the fact that my surgeon was so sure I will regain my fitness so quickly.
