DM of 25 years LF1M for biweekly inclusive group.

Hey locals, Chapter here. I had a lot of great responses last time but alas, only a couple players have had their schedule be able to commit to a steady biweekly game.

TL;DR Experienced DM wants to run rotating non-D&D systems for clever, mindful folx of any TTRPG experience biweekly at his home in East PDX. The current system is Phoenix: Dawn Command.

__

BACKGROUND

- I turn 41 this month, and have been a GM for 25 years-ish.

- I'm married to an enby partner who will be playing as well. We've been together 11 years.

- I'm a former trivia writer for shows like Jeopardy!, 1 vs 100, Geeks Who Drink, etc.

__

EXPERIENCE

Some systems I've ran campaigns for:

- Every edition of D&D (one campaign was a five year weekly game)

- RIFTs and other Palladium titles (Nightbane, Ninjas and Superspies, Heroes Unlimited)

- Mechwarrior, Battletech

- Call of Cthulhu

- Pathfinder

- Degenesis

- Star Wars d6, d20, and EoE

- Kult

- His Majesty The Worm

- Nova

- Slayers

I have ran lots of smaller sessions in everything from TOON to Mutants and Masterminds.

GM STYLE

- I am not an antagonist Gygaxian DM, but my style rewards resource management, cleverness, and decisiveness in the face of challenging scenarios.

- I focus on strong world building and am open to collaborative storytelling in certain systems.

- As a married queer man, I'm not going to tolerate genuine hate in my home, but I am comfortable running games that feature bigotry, classism, prejudice, and other forms of injustice because those things can exist within the world as problems to be challenged, confronted, and overcome. What I won't do is rely on vulgar shock value as shorthand for "this person or group is bad," e.g. using SA, cartoonish slurs, or cruelty for cruelty's sake as substitutes for actually writing thoughtful evil or oppression. Regardless, all potentially sensitive content that require veils will be discussed.

__

SCHEDULE & CURRENT GROUP

Our group meets biweekly on Tuesdays at my home in the Parkrose/Hazelwood neighborhood, with game going from 6pm - 9pm (feel free to show up earlier to chat).

Our group is LGBTQ friendly, as I'm a queer man in his 40s and my wife is queer enby early 40's as well. Our current players are wonderful people without a mean bone in their body and have a constant desire to find ways to be cooperative and supportive

PROPOSED SYSTEMS

I've ran D&D in my extensive homebrew world for the last decade and a half, having recently finished a 5E campaign that lasted 3.5 years.

I do not want to play D&D for a long time.

Instead, we plan to swap between various systems depending on the story or if we decide as a whole that we'd prefer to try something else.

Currently, our system of choice is Phoenix: Dawn Command, which is being ran in my homebrew world. I have written a player primer for my homebrew and a cheatsheet for P:DC. It is easy to play but requires a non-spectator type player to utilize your skills and traits to the fullest.

The next system we are giving hard thought to is Japan's Shin Megami Tensei or Salvage Union.

PLAYERS SOUGHT

I have been glad to help teach many players TTRPGs over the years, so experience with these systems are not required.

However, given the crunch and focus of some of the systems we are playing, a mind for tactics, politics, and problem solving is a plus- but not a "GM vs PCs" mindset.

I prefer for players to remain in character and present at the table, but I do not require nor seek performance based roleplay as popularized by streaming. You don't need to do voices, you just need to not be doomscrolling until it is your turn and make immersion breaking quips your go-to social contribution in character.

__

Sorry for this downpour of text! Thank you for reading it or at least portions of it :)

If you're interested, please respond here and DM me your Discord name so we can set up a quick voice chat interview. Our next game is this Tuesday. Till then!

Nike Structure 26- The most comfortable 13W shoe I've ever worn.

Hello BMFA! Based on posts here, I believe I may be bigger than most at 6'1, and waffling between 475-500lbs.

I have begun walking more after a PCL injury in anticipation of a month in Japan next year and found most of my shoes not able to handle the task, which is mostly comprised of Thursday Boots and Allen Edmonds.

Today I tried the Nike Structure 26 while looking for supportive walking shoes.

Obligitory /r/hailcorporate, but these were like walking in clouds locked around my feet.

I typically have a lot of pressure bearing down on both my ankles and bottom of my feet and this was the first sneaker-type where I didn't feel the pressure push back up into shins and knees.

I would give these a try if you're looking for a walking shoe that can handle a big body. Nike has a 60 day return policy in store from online.

Making a change to a Secret Lair order

Hey folks,

I got the bundles I wanted and added on the Their Magic is Limitless bundle. I see now though that they plan to ship altogether, which means I won't get the Stardew Valley cards until April next year.

Besides the historically ignored magic-support@wizards.com email, does anyone have an actual email or avenue to contact about seeing if I can get the SV one shipped immediately?

EDIT: Folks were correct, WOTC will not split up your order after the fact, just gotta hold that. I requested a refund, then we'll see how that goes lol.

Question for folks familiar with leather holsters.

Hey folks, I bought a custom, tuckable IWB holster from Craft Holsters for my .40 S&W Browning Hi-Power in 2024.

Since then, I've taken good care of the leather, but the holster has still remained way too tight. I wonder if it is because my carry isn't the 9mm version, but I was assured at purchase it would be fine for the .40 S&W.

I've done every thing they suggested for breaking in the holster and some tips off YouTube, but after two years of having it being stretched 24/7, it's still got a death grip on my carry and flops out of my waistband when I work on my draw.

Is this a feature, not a bug of leather holsters? Does anyone have any advice or am I going to just sell my holster and find one that isn't a liability?

Thank you for reading.

The etiquette on buying "buffer seats"

Hey folks, I was thinking about this the other day and wanted to see what a community obviously invested/interested in Cinemark Movie Club would think.

I am a bigger person and my wife likes to eat popcorn then lean into me. Because of this, when I buy movie tickets, I always buy both the left and right seats next to us for a small buffer from both my size and our potential noise from eating popcorn.

What are your thoughts on this practice? Rude? Considerate?

Looking for food truck(s) to serve a video game tournament Saturday, January 9th, 2027

Hey folks,

Likely a little too far in the future here, but I run large video game tournaments here in PDX and the next one I am doing will be January 9th, 2027. It will feature around 100ish people from all over the world coming to play SOULCALIBUR VI at Avenue Portland.

OVERVIEW

- I will be paying for a permit to rent the street alongside Avenue Portland, where you can park your food cart. I have confirmed with the city this is fine.

- You would be the only food truck(s) on the entire street, so you'd have some exclusivity.

- You would have a completely dedicated crowd of people who do not want to leave the venue because they spent a lot of money to fly here to play video games. They want to eat and get back inside.

- The event would run from 10am - 11pm roughly (depends on things like a Grand Finals reset).

- We would not be able to offer power from the venue, nor does it have a kitchen. We do have bathrooms on site. We can store water in the facility, but the refrigerator will be full from minor concessions (we will sell drinks and merch, but food is all you)

COST

I'm asking for 8% of sales flat, verified by EOD / Z Report, with rights to audit the POS if requested.

All gratuity is exempt from that 8%.

We can accommodate up to 2 trucks. Let me know if you have questions!

Update: Damaged Backrooms Wallpaper

Hey folks, I made a post a little while ago about the atrocious condition my vinyl Backrooms wallpaper arrived in. I was assured by A24 CS they would send it out in a more secure package.

I was immediately worried seeing it was the same box. However, this time it wasn't dented.

Lo and behold, when I opened it at the frame shop this time, it was in a proper hard case with wrapping paper. It was pristine, if a little more yellow tinted thsn the previous one.

Much happier. Now to cut up the previous one for the small sections that weren't damaged and perhaps make some smaller pieces for a bathroom or friend or something.

Other pictures are frames I was trying out for it (I settled on one that looks close to the flooring cast in shadows.

EDIT: r/HailCorporate

In all seriousness- not an endorsement, purchased before the announcement, and the people working in CS, likely outsourced, that helped me with this issue are not the ones to blame. I wanted to recognize them. I'm a fan of some stuff on Dropout, which has the most progressive politics and standpoints of any media company, but they have the worst CS, production timelines, and merch quality I've seen, so I don't order from them and actively warn against doing so.

The point of my first post wasn't to karma farm from a moral standpoint, but to warn folks about the QC- but regarding that point, any support of a24 from me will be minimal, incidental, with the sole purpose of supporting folks like Parsons who align with what I hope doesn't become the outlier for art moving forward.

Damaged Backrooms Wallpaper due to bad packaging.

Went in to get the Backrooms wallpaper framed for my office today and for whatever reason, A24 has sent the wallpaper in a soft, rectangular box rather than a standard hard cylinder.

You can see the big bent in the package, which led to a wild amount of creasing and bunching in it. There's no way to mount this without a ton of wrinkles, even if I was to heat treat it.

I've contacted A24 CS, but wanted to let folks know how this was shipping out

Edit: A24 CS is sending a replacement, with no hassle.

Big damn mirrors

These mirrors are big and one of them is flower shaped for your granola ass.

Available now! No extended raffles, I need to reclaim space immediately, thank you for your understanding.

Edit: also found a smaller mirror, around the thirs if the size of the rectangular one with black frame. Seeing if I can upload another picture via mobile.

Edit 2: Flower mirror has been picked up! I know we don't do ratings here but +1 to /u/emaz1n for being the fastest and most punctual person I've dealt with here before.

All mirrors gone, thank you PDXBuyNone!
