What if a social network only let you say "good morning"?

A few weeks ago, I started wondering what the opposite of a traditional social network would look like.

Not another feed.

Not another app competing for attention.

Just one simple interaction.

Every morning (or anytime actually), you can say "Ohayo" ("good morning" in Japanese).

Your greeting appears anonymously as a small pulse of light on a live 3D globe, alongside greetings from people around the world.

There are:

* no accounts

* no followers

* no likes

* no comments

* no ads

* no algorithm deciding what you should see

You can also explore the Earth in real time, watch the day/night boundary move across the planet, see where sunrise is happening, and discover which cities wake up next.

The goal wasn't to build another social network—it was to create a small, peaceful daily routine that reminds us we're all sharing the same sunrise.

I'd genuinely love feedback on the concept, the design, and the user experience.

Sunset in London and Rio de Janeiro

I was playing with a day/night globe I built and noticed something that surprised me.

Around the June solstice, the Sun sets at almost the same time in London and Rio de Janeiro, even though they're more than 40° of longitude apart.

It feels counterintuitive at first, but it makes sense because:

  • London is close to its longest day of the year.
  • Rio is close to its shortest.

Do you know any other surprising sunrise/sunset facts?

How many people are watching the sunrise right now? I built a globe to find out.

I built a model using global population density data and the real-time position of the day/night terminator to estimate how many people are currently in the sunrise zone (-6 to +6 degrees).

At the moment I'm posting this, the answer is only 1.2 million people (sunrise just left the west coast of America).

The globe updates in real time and shows where sunrise is happening around the world.

Are there any geographical effects or patterns you think would be interesting to visualize next?

Welcome the sunrise every day

Hi,

I like to welcome the sunrise in the morning, even in summer when I have to wake up early, to express my gratitude for the coming day.

I recently created a small website, entirely free, where you can follow the sun rise across the world and say hello to other viewers.

I don't know if my post will be considered as commercial and removed. I would however be grateful to anyone sending a "Ohayo" from my website.

I wish you a nice and peaceful day.

Forest coverage by country

The Forest Coverage by Country tool allows you to see the total forst area or the percentage of land area per country. Grab the globe to rotate it.

Data source: World Bank — AG.LND.FRST.ZS (~2021 estimates).

Map borders: Natural Earth via world-atlas TopoJSON (1:110 m scale). Borders reflect de facto administrative control and do not imply any position on the legal status of disputed territories.

I just released my first App in the US (and maybe other) App Store. OMOIA is a simple and yet powerful (I hope) bookmarks saving app.
Free to use with local storage, monthly subscription (1.99$/mo) for web storage allowing sync between devices, access from any web browser…

I would be happy to get any feedback!

I finally got my first App approved on iOS store. I’m however a bit afraid to release / publish it. Any additional test or advice would be very much appreciated 🙏
