I was exploring another weird sunrise/sunset coincidence with the day/night globe I built.

Today I noticed that Durban (South Africa) and Novosibirsk (Russia) have sunset only 6 minutes apart, even though they're separated by almost 52° of longitude.

It seems that the difference in latitude and the current tilt of Earth's axis almost perfectly compensate for the longitude difference.

I love these little geographical coincidences.

A few weeks ago, I started wondering what the opposite of a traditional social network would look like.

The goal wasn't to build another social network—it was to create a small, peaceful daily routine that reminds us we're all sharing the same sunrise.

I'd genuinely love feedback on the concept, the design, and the user experience.

Every day is a new opportunity to become better.

I was playing with a day/night globe I built and noticed something that surprised me.

Around the June solstice, the Sun sets at almost the same time in London and Rio de Janeiro, even though they're more than 40° of longitude apart.

It feels counterintuitive at first, but it makes sense because:

• London is close to its longest day of the year.
• Rio is close to its shortest.

Do you know any other surprising sunrise/sunset facts?

On June 24th at 21:05 UTC, more than 1 billion people were experiencing sunrise at the same time.

I built a model using global population density data and the real-time position of the day/night terminator to estimate how many people are currently in the sunrise zone (-6 to +6 degrees).

At the moment I'm posting this, the answer is only 1.2 million people (sunrise just left the west coast of America).

The globe updates in real time and shows where sunrise is happening around the world.
