Anticipatory grief, cat (16)

Anticipatory grief, cat (16)

I wish to seek opinions from fellow senior cat owners.

Had a long-distance call with my mom yesterday who updated me that my senior cat (16) vomitted and started to eat and drink much lesser since Saturday (it’s Wednesday now). He was diagnosed with renal CKD stage 3 last month and successfully went on a renal diet (Royal Canin) and was on miralax, high BP med, and a gut motility med for his health issues. He has been doing VERY well until Saturday, when he puked and started hiding, and didn’t want to eat much.

He apparently has high calcium in his blood. Could have been from a few issues, but currently I’m at a loss of how to proceed. Vet tells my mom to mentally prepare, and I am also doing the same, from a long distance away. I’m tense, and going through anticipatory grief. It seems like we cannot do much about it, and the vet gave my mom IV to administer to him, plus appetite stimulant meds. Simply to extend his life.

Are there any other things we can do? I read on Gemini Google that we can change his diet.. add fiber, something, to flush the calcium out.

If you know anything, please advise. I don’t want my cat to leave so soon, when I’m overseas and cannot hug and smell him before he does.

Thank you.

Senior cat (16) blood pressure reading: 200 (amlodipine)

Hi everyone,

My senior cat (16) is recently diagnosed with CKD stage 3, and high blood pressure of 200 (tested today). Can I know how many of your senior cats have such a high BP?

Also, we are now figuring whether to give him amlodipine pill, or syrup, or transdermal gel (in ears)? Any experiences with these? Reception of cat to this med? Would appreciate it very much!

Prognosis for senior cat (16) CKD stage 3?

Hi everyone,

My cutest senior boy cat (16 years) was diagnosed renal insufficiency at stage 3 just a few days ago. I initially brought him in for constipation, but it turns out from blood and urine test that his kidneys aren’t doing the best (I suppose, expectedly, given his age).

He’s been sleeping a lot recently— the whole day mostly. Just gets up for meals, and pee. His activity has reduced. He doesn’t do sunbathing anymore, nor walk/sit around in living room. Just sleeps and sleeps. He’s not even bothered by the sounds of my hairdryer nowadays, which is weird, because he used to leap off whenever I turn it on.

We are transitioning him to full wet food (renal diet).
He’s also on miralax, which he fortunately can’t detect in his wet food.

We are planning to have him take his blood pressure this coming week.

I just want to ask:

  1. For those of you with senior cats with renal stage 3, how does the prognosis look like in reality when diagnosed— how long do they live? I’m trying to mentally and emotionally prepare myself. It’s been a hard week.

  2. Did any of your cats go blind or get a stroke at this stage?

Does your senior cat (>11) poop less on wet can food? (As opposed to dry kibbles)

Hi all!

Wondering if your senior cutes poop less on wet can food as compared to dry kibbles? I recently transitioned my senior boy (16) to wet can food, and noticed he’s going a lot less. He’s been having constipation issues which is masking this problem a bit.. I don’t know if it’s the wet food resulting in him making less caca, or if it’s due to him absorbing more nutrients from wet food (and thus less waste).

In general, does wet can food = less poop for seniors? Thanks!

Marriage + Conflict Management/Resolution

For those in a happy and fulfilling marriage, how do you navigate conflicts and disagreements such that you continuously maintain a great relationship?

When times are good, things are often great. But how do you approach the bad days, the difficult times, when you just can’t see eye to eye on things?

Recommendations for wet food: Senior cat (16)

Hi guys!

Can I get recommendations for wet food for my senior boy cat, 16 years old?

One that is friendly on the kidneys + helps with constipation issues.

I’m transitioning him out of dry kibbles and now onto wet food (both Ziwi Peaks NZ brand), and he loves them. He’s quite picky and only enjoys tuna or mackerel taste, so there’s that too.

So basically I’m looking for wet food which is:
• Kidney-friendly (for senior cats age 16)
• Helps relieve constipation
• Tuna & Mackerel flavours — chicken is fine too. He’s occasionally picky with beef.

Thank you! ❤️

Senior cat (16) constantly constipated — need ideas.

Hi fellow cat lovers! 🐱

I have a senior boy, 16 of age. He’s been well so far health-wise, but in recent weeks have been showing weird signs of what I’m assuming is constipation.

He would attempt to poo in his sandbox… a few gold bars fall out… then he’ll stop and find it hard to finish. He’s got more gold stuck inside. He gets into a weird sitting position in a corner, and proceeds to vomit, which helps him to clear out the remaining brownie… on the floor/on his chair. (I don’t mind any of these, but I worry about him having to use this vomiting method each time he needs to clear logs from constipation).

These constipation episodes happen maybe 50% these days. The other 50% of time he’s fine, smooth drops. I hold my breath each time when I see him poo.. not because it’s smelly, but I worry about recurrences.

He’s otherwise completely fine, eating, drinking, sleeping well. We have been transitioning him to wet can food for 2 times a day, and if he’s hungry still, he goes to his kibbles. We sometimes give him belly massages in hopes it helps..😆

I read that vets might be able to give him laxative, but this boy is smart. He can taste what isn’t real food, and he’d reject it.

Anyone has had experiences with such before and managed to navigate it? My poor little baby, he’s never had such problems when he was young. We’re trying to make his life as comfortable as can be now that he’s a senior (fit senior, quite youthful for his age!).

35F, Metro Vancouver (BC)

Hi there!

I’m J, 35 years of age, and originally from Singapore. 🐦 I’m moving to the Greater Vancouver area (BC) in July 2026 (and am currently feeling a mixbag of both excitement, and early homesickness).

On the personal front, I’m first and foremost a Christian who seeks to honour Christ in my life. The Christian walk is often hard, riddled with challenges; often times I fall, but His grace abounds.

I’m also someone who is very open and genuine. I speak my mind, and deeply enjoy to-and-fro stimulating conversations. It really could be anything from the little fun findings/ jokes from the mundanity of life, or bigger issues surrounding us: faith, geopolitics, social issues, cultures, philosophy, etc. I simply enjoy engaging, learning, listening, understanding. As well, I keep an open mind to things—there are often nuances to most everything, and I find it best to understand first where one is coming from… After all, the world is massive, and experiences are varied.

I’ve travelled a fair bit to experience different cultures and life. Different cultures and ways of life have fascinated me since I was little. These days, I’ve been watching travel vlogs to India and Pakistan, super interesting! The one thing I derived from my immersion into cultures, is that we’re ultimately all ‘same-same, but different’. We —or most of us—work for a living, have goals and dreams, feel joy and pain, and will die one day. At the very core, humans are motivated by many similar drivers, and are really not that much different at all.

Authenticity is crucial for me. The one thing I cannot stand for the life of me, is disingenuity. I’m personable, but selective of people I let into my life. I appreciate those who’re real and genuine, and hold tightly to my few close friends who have remained true for the long haul. As a natural introvert (who is occasionally somewhat extroverted), I’m pretty much lowkey and appreciate life as such.

I can be absolutely silly (in my nature to be), or necessarily serious, depending on context. My default is lightheartedness, and I don’t get offended very easily. When I’m close to someone… my humor becomes outrageous. At home, we roast each other for good fun, and laugh at stupid things all the time. I’m self-deprecative and don’t enjoy taking things too seriously. A massive favorite is Irish craic/English dry humor (I especially enjoy Seán Burke and Bernard O’Shea). I also LOVE Conan O’Brien, who’s coincidentally also Irish…

At 35, I’ve gone through my fair share of great heights and painful abyss, and feel more positioned to be a matured, empathetic, and understanding partner to someone else. I’m also gifted with the ability to connect with others deeply, and soulfully.

And for the questions:

• Area of study/work: I studied English literature back in university, but ended up doing digital marketing in the corporate world. It’s exhausting and mentally draining, corporate life, and those who go through it know it. (But, it pays the bills.) I have at some point thought of changing careers, to becoming a social worker or counsellor, but that’s still decisions in process.

• Hobbies/interests: I’m mostly a creative, and love and appreciate art in all forms, whether that be visual or textual. I’m a big appreciator of artsy-fartsy indie films (those that you watch and ruminate on for much time beyond, and have endless discussions about), and also graphic design, or fine arts. Oh, I really enjoy cooking as well, and also making delicious beverages 😌 Very fulfilling. Also… hiking, outdoor activities, all up for it. Alllso… I really really love animals (especially cats, dogs, primates lol)

• Tell us a bit about your Christian journey: I grew up in a Christian household, but it wasn’t until I faced with some challenges in life that I seriously sought God. Through the years, I’ve had various questions I also needed answered, as I got to befriend more non-Christians and becoming more burdened re their salvation. Personally, I strive to honour God with my life, and be the messenger in whichever station I’m put at: whether it’s me demonstrating everyday small doses of Christian love to my non-Christian colleagues, random people I meet that I’ve had the pleasure of some meaningful exchange, friends who have yet to accept Christ, etc. All important to me. I try to be the bridge that is relatable, in order to relay the Christian love across.

• What sort of person are you looking for?: A steadfast, empathetic, and easygoing Christian man (with humor) who enjoys diving into conversations (be it inane drivel, or intellectual discussions) with me. Someone who makes me feel seen, heard, and understood (and whom I’ll do the same for). At this point of my life, I’d like to have kids, and would very happily accept your kids. Very open to dating either single men without kids, or single fathers with kids.

As I’m someone who’s generous with sharing and doesn’t sweat the small stuff, I’m looking for a man who likewise has a spirit of openness and generosity, both inwardly, as well as to the outside world. Having empathy, compassion, and consideration for people, the vulnerable, the feeble, and animals — matters a lot to me. There is a saying I firmly believe in: True character is shown in how one treats those who have nothing to offer them.

Also importantly: I’m seeking someone who’s self-aware, emotionally healthy, and knows how to emotionally regulate during conflicts. Having healthy communication skills to manage conflicts is so so important for relationships, and I’d like for us to pray, talk, and work things through together, when challenges come our way.

• Age range: 30-49 (I’ve met men in their late 20s or early 50s who expressed interest, so I’m not entirely opposed to that as well. It just matters more to me if we click.)

• Would you be willing to do long distance/relocate?: As of now, I would prefer to meet someone I can easily meet in person, so ideally someone within metro Vancouver or BC. Open to other provinces within Canada as well.

(That being said, though not exceptionally keen on long distance, I’m not entirely opposed to it if there’s significant immediate mutual interest, and natural connection. The odds of that are likely low, so pardon me if I do not reply to long-distance messages…! God bless you all!)

*For anyone interested, I’d appreciate if you could drop an introductory message with a few pictures. Also, if at all a little request, I’m 5’4, and so am looking for someone who is at least 5’6 and above.

Cheers!

Hi all!

I've been in digital marketing (SEO, SEM, Content, Email, Socials) - basically T-shaped marketer - for 8 years, but I've been on a job sabbatical for close to 9 months now, at a time where (I suppose) AI is front and center in terms of search behavior. (Has SEO even died at this point...?) I haven't been kept up since, as I've been unemployed and not actively working on these things hands on. I'm looking for employment soon again, but feel a little lapsed, and a little not-so confident now.

  1. I would be updating myself via reading up on what's changed, and what's new. Which top resource(s) do you guys recommend? I usually read: searchengineland, SEMRush, Neil Patel, etc.

  2. Any tips on how to navigate from here on, would be appreciated!

Hey all, I’m moving to Langley BC from Singapore in mid-July. I’ve been browsing listings now (May), but everything seems to be for immediate-type occupancy.

Am I looking too early? Should I wait until June to see listings?

Also, for those who moved from overseas—how did you handle the search? Did you sign a lease based on video tours, or wait until you arrived? I’m a bit nervous about the fast-moving market and want to make sure I don't get scammed or end up without a place.

Appreciate any tips! TIA.

Hi ladies! I would be moving to Vancouver BC soon for studies, and need some help on the hiprex front.

Does anyone see or know any doctors in Vancouver BC where you can get prescription for hiprex from? Or, they can write a prescription for me to fill at The Canadian Apothecary pharmacy?

Thanks a lot!
