Metal health relief

32M here. I’ve lost about 10 friends in total in the last few years. One of the long lasting things that did happen in this time has been the quietness and relief of not feeling on edge and anxious about what version of the person I’m going to get and just having a few nice, kind, considerate people in my life who are not overbearing and just good to talk to and be around. My sleep and overall mood has improved greatly. I’m just a better person without that toxic behavior in my life. Just wanted to share a positive story. Be well friends.

Friends, don't work for Bach Enterprises, I know it's tempting in this climate, still don't do it.

I had to watch a good friend go through severe burnout and depression working there and deal with very low pay of just thirty an hour doing like 4 jobs at once and deal with bad management. The Glassdoor review is very accurate from what he told me. Terrible hours, no overtime pay, they don't do union rules at all, only on site in LA for low pay, etc.

I see King Bach just announced he was making a feature film. Please don't be fooled here. The film in question likely will come out in like five years and be revised like 100 times. Their higher quality stuff, and that's relative, almost never escapes post-hell.

So yeah, stay away, I think it's one of those unspoken things that this place really sucks but don't be fooled. Really.

Saw two of my friends fall apart mentally last year, I sought help this year

Just wanted to vent. I was sort of the makeshift "therapist" for two separate friends (one didn't know the other) last year. Both were really struggling and neither of them sought help so I was the one there for them. At first I was okay with it. Slowly but surely, both of them started to be really nasty and mean to me. Then I started drinking well over what was healthy and ended up in the hospital late last year due to excessive stress. Fast forward 7 months, I've cut both of these people out, quit drinking, and I'm seeing several doctors and my health is now at a good baseline. Just here to say, don't do what I did, if you have a friend struggling, encourage them to seek help and don't think you're a therapist. (This advice is for non-mental health workers, obviously).

Anyone else end friendships/relationships and not look back?

Just curious if this is anyone else’s tendency. If I end a friendship or relationship, it’s actually “done” - like I give a tremendous amount of consideration and hopefully have some level of discussion before things end but when I’m done and when it’s over, I don’t look back. Waste of time. My life stays clean and I can focus on people who care about me and treat me well and I to them. Thoughts?

Playing Crysis 3 Remastered on PS5

Game is incredible and looks as good as any modern release and in some cases even better. The level design in particular is some of the best I've ever seen in a shooter. I remember playing this originally on the Xbox 360 way back when and it barely ran. But yeah, just another Crysis appreciation post. This game rocks.

Feeling just a bit “ugh” about the situation

32M here with a friend 38M who just relapsed and I broke it off with them for good. I nearly ended the friendship with them last year but they made it clear that they were “fixing” and making things right. At first it looked like he was getting better and recently he relapsed and got meaner and worse than ever. I respectfully ended the friendship and blocked. But I just feel a bit “ugh” about the situation. I tolerated a lot. Just taking it day by day and feeling lighter.

When you realize how much better you feel when you've blocked their number

Having another friendship coming to an end due to various reasons. Haven't had "the talk" yet but my God, I blocked their number the other day and my mood spiked like +50 over the last few days. Holy crap.

Just interviewed for a new position, they want me to do everything

Just wanted to rant. I interviewed for a new position and they quite literally said they want me to know every part of the process and it's a senior level position. I thought I got away from this several years ago but it just makes me mad some positions literally expect you to do everything and ultimately will burn you out. Do I know pre-production and production? Yes. Do I want to do all of those things and run myself ragged? Hell no. This nonsense needs to stop already. I also don't think these companies realize things would be run a lot better if there was just a dedicated pre-pro person, a dedicated production person, and a dedicated post-person, each part would get some down time and everything would run A LOT better because there would be more ups and downs. But I digress. End rant.

Emotional distance with others

Has anyone found that it’s best to be emotionally distant with others since you tend to be the “tall poppy” and otherwise people will try to get a rise out of you? I’ve definitely found success in being that way when I used to be too emotionally reactive. Any similar experiences?

Concern of Mental Health in the industry

I’ve worked in the industry for 14 years and I’m a long time contributor to this forum. Although my real name isn’t my user name, just wanted to say to everyone to take care of yourselves, I know things are tough right now. I see a lot of concerning trends among my colleagues such as maxing out credit cards and going out excessively and drinking a lot when I know they can’t afford it. I’ve seen it a lot lately and while I can understand the impulse, it just makes me worry for these people even more. So just wanted to say to everyone, please practice self care and restraint, I have faith things will get better.

Did anyone else go through a "Cycle" of sorts?

32M here. Just sort of recollecting about the friends that dropped off over the last few years. Need to be clear that I still have some awesome friends in life and if anything, those relationships have gotten better and closer. But it was a strange cycle from about 30 to 31 that people just started to drop off. Petty fights would seemingly come out of nowhere. People started being petty and mean to each other. It was so weird looking back. Just glad to be on the other side of it and relaxing.
