NowTV app unwatchable on Amazon FireStick

Works fine on browser and on iPhone. But the frame rate seems to be wrong. Constant stuttering and the ball often disappears when moving fast. Trying to watch the cricket. Is this know issue with this device?

Support told me my internet connection is too slow. Quoting <1mbps from their end which I find to be ridiculous. I’m getting 70mbps on my computer.

I don't think the helicopter is supposed to just drive into the cliff like that!

I only noticed today that the theme tune has percussion

Maybe I've only ever half listened to it while making a brew at 8pm on a Monday, but because of reasons I'm watching tonight's episode on my computer through headphones. The theme tune isn't just a string quartet, there's some faint percussion loops. It sounds a bit like paper being flapped around.

New to Patreon

Is there an easy way to listening to the bonus episodes outside of the Patreon app? is there a list of only the bonus episodes? Having just signed up, I'm trying to catch up on all the bonus episodes. But I'm finding the Patreon website infuriating to navigate and the app is somehow worse.

9 Star is now an official category on the leaderboard.

Since the discovery of Crack Slide - a much easier way to bypass the 30 star door than SBLJ - 9 Star has become a viable category extension.

Get 8 lobby stars, complete BitDW, crack slide passed 30 star door, continue to the end as in other any% runs.

Any means of bypassing the 8 star door is banned.

Current WR is 12:40 by Vitroncio

Two months of recovery after total nail loss

Two months ago I damaged my thumb nail after a particularly painful blow from a cricket ball. I keep wicket so this is a semi-regular experience for me. After a few days it became clear that the nail had totally detached, so I removed it with a sharp knife.

I see plenty of people posting here who are very worried after biting off their entire nail.

There’s still a few more weeks of growing to return to “normal”. But hopefully these pictures show how the nail can heal.

Most Question Time appearances.

It’s always nice to have a good story. “Only one other MP has been on Question Time more than Farage, and he’s really old” but that’s not actually true.

Nigel is joint 6th (with Michael Heseltine and Clare Short). Ken Clarke, Shirley Williams, Menzies Campbell, Harriet Harman and Charles Kennedy have all been on more times than Farage.

There’s enough ridiculous, sycophantic behaviour shown by the media to Nigel without the need to resort to exaggerations.

The Vue cinema, The Light

What screen times are generally quietest? I’m thinking of going to see Obsession next week (I have the week off work) what time should I go to maximise the chances of seeing it in an empty cinema screen?

Pink ball in club cricket?

Has anyone’s league started playing with a pink ball?

Our evening T20 uses pink balls and I’ve played a couple of games so far. It’s surprising to me how different it is seeing the ball.

Batting and keeping wicket seemed fine, seeing the ball out of the sightscreens. But picking up the ball thrown in from the boundary was awful. Not sure if it was to do with the setting sun.

Anyone else find it difficult to see the pink ball in the evening sunshine?

Overseas players in club cricket.

What’s the history behind the tradition of clubs having an overseas?

Our league allows clubs to have one player in the 1st XI to be an overseas player. Usually a talented, young player from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or India. The club pay for them to come over and usually they stay with someone while they are here. They often get involved with all the club stuff and sometimes someone gets them a job so that they get a work visa or whatever.

I feel I have vague recollections of this being a thing when I was a junior (in the 90s). But it must have started somewhere. Anyone older than me remember how it started?

I failed

A couple of weeks ago I injured my thumb playing cricket. The nail partially detached from the bed. The feeling of my nail wobbling about was just too much for me to cope with. I very carefully removed the damaged portion, revealing the nail bed which has begun to heal. The portion left is still attached for the time being.

It’s not actually painful at all. The nail is paper-thin at the moment. I’m interested to see how it grows out. I’ve started photographing it each day. I might try to make a Timelapse in a few months.

The temptation to rip it off is so great!

I’ve been doing much better lately. Most of my nails look healthy.

But due to a painful blow to the thumb during a cricket match, most of the nail is detached from the bed. I can get a nail file basically all the way under the nail on one side of my thumb.

Please convince me not to keep picking until it falls off!

Beginner (~grade 3) clarinet player seeking ensemble.

I’m looking for a group to play with on clarinet.

I’ve been a guitarist for 20 years and I can read music pretty well. But I’ve taken up clarinet in the last few months and want to play with other people.

Are there any amateur orchestras or other ensembles that meet regularly for fun? I know about Saturday morning music centre, but unfortunately Saturday is not a good day for me.

Walking boots repair recommendations?

My new(ish) and relatively expensive leather walking boots have been damaged by foxes. I left them outside to clean later and a fox mistook them for a chew toy!

It’s just the tongue that’s been damaged. Are there any good cobblers in Leeds that anyone would recommend?

Probably killed the nail.

Took a painful blow to the thumb keeping wicket in a cricket match yesterday. When this has happened before, the whole nail has eventually detached from the bed. Gonna be a challenge not to pick at it and make it worse. I’ll try to keep updating.

Does anyone else enjoy the connected bonus round questions they sometimes have on University Challenge?

It might be the music round where the starter is an example of a particular production technique “that was In The Air Tonight which features a gated reverb on the drums, here are three other examples of gated reverb. Name the song and artist.”

They always finish with the most obvious one so you get a chance to try to guess which example they will use for question three.

(In the above example I’d probably guess Born In The USA - Bruce Springsteen.)
