Transparent Takanaka Stickers

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is allowed, more than happy to take down if it isn’t. I’ve been selling these transparent Takanaka stickers on Etsy for awhile now and it’s been awesome shipping this around the world to Takanaka fans! As someone in the US who wanted some more Takanaka merch, such as stickers, I was really happy with how these came out and a lot of folks who have bought them feel the same! I’m trying to clear my inventory so I’ve done a huge price drop and I’m selling packs of 10 of each for $15! Wanted to post it here for those who hadn’t seen any past posts I made on here and didn’t know these existed. For anyone who has bought some in the past, I appreciate it! Sorry for the “advertisement” but this feels like the best place to get the word out :)

2000 Boxster Locking Mechanism PSA

Hi all, I’m typing this as I wait for my drill to recharge. The locking mechanism on my 2000 Boxster has been giving me issues so I decided to get around to replacing it. Simple repair: remove door panel, remove a few screws to get the locking mechanism out, put new mechanism in, put door panel back on. Well, the screws attached to the mechanism decided they didn’t want to go so easy. I initially thought these were normal torx screws but noticed they weren’t and an easy google search led me to these being 8mm triple square screws. Cool, I go to the hardware store and get a set. 8mm is too big. Hmmmm. Go on some more forums, some people say that they had some luck with a 6mm Allen key and sure enough, I got one screw off immediately with that. But this other screw? Completely stripped at this point. I’m not sure what screw bits these are but if you have a 2000 Boxster, be weary. If anyone has any advice for future redditors (and myself), please feel to give it in the comments! I’m at the step of using a screw extractor, will give an update once the drill is charged. Wish me luck yall.

NGD: Vintage Gibsons!

Hi all, wanted to share what is quite possibly the best finds of my life! Someone on FB Marketplace listed both of these Gibsons for sale a few days ago. A 1967 Gibson ES-335 and a 1950s ES-125. I’m a touch under $4500 into both of them. The 335 is insanely clean and in excellent condition for its age. It’s also all original. The 125 is a bit more beat up but no structural damage or neck issues. I’m pretty sure it’s a 1950s model because it has 19 frets. The action on both of these are incredible, 1.5m at the 12th fret for the low E and 1.25mm at the 12th fret on the high E on BOTH guitars. The neck on the 335 is possibly one of my favorite necks I’ve ever played. I played a friends newer 335 against this 1967 and the 67 was a definite winner (the newer one was still great, I’m being a snob). The 125 sounds amazing unplugged and has flatwounds on it, which likely adds to the sound that I’m liking. A bit of an unexpected purchase so I’m letting go of a few other guitars in my collection to make room for these but these two will keep me very busy :)

Sharpie on 87 SG

Hi everyone, I’m having some trouble with getting some signatures off this guitar and was hoping for some help. This is a 1987 Gibson SG that was signed by Dave Hlubek and some others but I’ve decided to remove the signatures. A lysol wipe managed to lighten the sharpie. I then attempted the dry erase marker method and it’s not working. At all. I’ve gone over the same spot a dozen times with an expo marker, wipe it off, and there’s no change. I’m unsure what my next steps should be. I know isopropyl works but will remove the finish. I’ve read about naphtha but have never tried that before. I’d like to preserve the finish as best as I can. Any advice on what my next steps should be is appreciated!

Update: lighter fluid didn’t work :( have been alternating between 91% isopropyl and an expo marker. It’s removed a lot but still have quite a bit left. Will likely need to do some kind of wet high grit sanding and some polishing afterward. Photo update is in the comments.

Fender ST72 or Fake?

Hi everyone, someone has offered me this Fender Strat in a trade offer but I can’t verify if it’s real. I thought the logo looked a little off but what’s really getting me is the neck plate on the back not being rounded at the bottom, it’s a rectangle plate. The serial number also doesn’t look like any other ST72s on Reverb. Any help is appreciated!

Review: Schecter PT SLS Elite Evil Twin

Hi everyone!

I recently acquired not one, but two of these Evil Twins from a large lot of gear! I was honestly expecting to sell both of them, I wasn’t really interested in them as much as everything else I acquired but after playing it, my mind quickly changed. I only see one other post on this entire subreddit about this specific model so I feel like it’s my civic duty to make this post.

Some background: I’ve owned over 100 guitars. Of them, 10 have been Schecters, 2 being the Evil Twins. I’ve had a C-1 Elite, C-1 Platinum, C-6 Elite, Hellraisers (C1 and Solo6), a Sun Valley Super Shredder, Damien Special, and a Banshee GT. These all are worth under $1000 used and every single one of them impressed me. I ended up selling each one, I just never had room in my collection for any of them. But compared to more expensive guitars I’ve owned and played, I always felt like Schecter was punching way above the price range their guitars go for. If I blindfolded 100 guitar players and gave them a Fender, a Schecter, and a Gibson and asked them to pick their favorite based on playability and feel, I think the Schecters would have a fighting chance against the legacy brands.

The Evil Twin: as mentioned above, I didn’t think much of this guitar when I bought it. It was with A LOT of other gear and I already had intentions on selling it. And I have TWO of them. These retail for $1500, a bit more than every other Schecter mentioned above. Both Evil Twins had swapped pickups but the original owner provided the originals for both. All I had to do to put the original pickups back in was unplugging the pickups and plugging the originals back in. No soldering??? Absolutely incredible. I’m not incredibly savvy on the technology behind pickups and I’m aware these are active pickups, but it makes me wonder why other brands don’t look into solderless pickups for every guitar. Now I’ve got Tim Henson Fishmans and Fishman Classics set aside that I can just throw into this Evil Twin whenever I want and it’ll take me 10 minutes to do it. Plus the stock pickups sound great.

The Review: I believe there’s three very important aspects to a guitar that makes it a good or bad guitar. How a guitar performs in each criteria is subjective but I believe each criteria applies to everyone.

Criteria #1) Does it look good? Before we play a note or hear the guitar, we see the guitar. For me, this guitar checks this box. I love the Tele shape with the matte black. The fret inlays are unique and look awesome. The saddles are different from any guitar I’ve ever seen and I love how they look. It’s a simple guitar, not as flashy as other Schecters can be, but I love it.
Criteria #2) Does it play good? If we were to put ear plugs in and play a guitar, we know whether or not if we like it just from how it feels. Do we like the neck shape? Is the action good? Is it comfortable to play? This one checks the box again. Neck profile is on the thinner side, which I really like. It’s not too heavy. The action? 1mm at the 12th fret for almost every string. Lower than any Gibson I’ve ever played or worked on. Upper fret access is great since there’s a nice carve out, something you don’t find on other guitars in this price range from other brands. Bending is very easy on this, and I think this has to do with the nut. There’s some kind of cut out at the bottom of the nut on each strings. I think this allows for more flexibility on the string. It makes 10s feel like 8s when bending, but in a good way. Never seen this kind of nut on any other guitar.
Criteria #3) Does it sound good? I like the Fishman Fluences. Of the three categories, this is the one I’m the worst at talking about. Some folks can talk about the lows, mids, and highs as if they have a personal relationship with them. Some can use adjectives like muddy, creamy, mellow, or clean. I’m more in the caveman category when it comes to this stuff, as I can only tell if a pickup sounds good or bad. I think these pickups sound great. They also coil split, which is a cool feature. But as mentioned above, if you don’t like how these sound, you can swap them very easily.

The Verdict: This is an incredible guitar. There’s a ton of guitars on the market and I can see how this one can get lost in the catalogue. I’d never seen or heard of it until a few days ago. It’s easy to overlook. I’ve enjoyed every Schecter I’ve played, but this one is THE best one I’ve played. At $1500 new, this truly is competitive with the legacy brands, who charge $2000+ for a guitar that’s half as good (I’m looking at my Gibson while typing this sentence). I love my other guitars but nothing has blown me out of the water quite like this guitar, especially not as much to write a review this lengthy. That’s my review and I’m sticking with it. Whoever buys the other one I have will be very happy, I’m sure. Not a sponsored post, just a mediocre player who loves guitars. Cheers!
