Vermillion Electric Power Company presents: North Vermillion Reservoir

Providing fresh water and power to all of Vermillion City, and with wonderful views from the top of the dam.

Sadly, the village of North Vermillion had to be flooded in order to create the reservoir. Some say that on quiet days you can still hear the bells of the church tower...

The last four pictures show the village before inundation. It almost seemed a shame to flood it.

See my posts in the comments for videos showing the inside of the hydroelectric plant in the dam, with two phase generation.

I think I should have thinned my quinces more...

Tree is a bit overloaded this year. I never seem to thin them enough. I think it's because, unlike apples or pears, they produce flowers and fruit singly, not in clusters, so I underestimate how much thinning needs doing.

Had a huge crop last year: 27kg from a 8 foot tree.

I'll have to start picking soon.

Welcome to the farm

I wanted to build myself a farm for a while now, but couldn't decide where it should go. In the end I decided to convert most of the southern beach on the first island of Palette Town.

The farm itself only grows wheat, beans and potatoes, plus grass for hay, but I also made a little garden for the farm cottage.

I'm not entirely happy with my water mill, but it was the best I could do with the materials available.

This year's nectarine crop

It's done really well this year. Seed grown tree, now exactly 6 years old.

This year was its last chance. If it didn't give a decent crop this year, it was for the chop. It flowered well the tw years previous, but in 24 it produced no fruit at all, and last year only about 8 fruit.

It gets peach leaf curl every spring, despite winter sprays with Bordeaux mixture, as one would expect in my damp mild winter climate, but it always bounces back well.

The fruit are not quite ripe yet. They already taste quite nice, but are still rather hard, and I think they can still get sweeter. Another week or two, I think.

First ever Legend rank

First time ever to Legend. I usually make Veteran no problem, and often make Expert, but I had never been able to manage that final push before (2,905 was the best I had managed before this season).

I started at 2,450 on Tuesday, cleared Expert very quickly, then spent a few days bouncing between 2,800 and 2,900 (makingit to 2,959 at one point before dropping back to 2,749), before finally making it today.

This team is an old favourite of mine (got it off here, in fact, over a year ago. With the rise of Mud Slappers and Fairies it startes doing poorly, but it's performed well this season as they've fallen off a bit. Although two out of three of these pokemon are definitely still off-meta.

Weezing is Sludge and Overheat. The other two are standard move sets.

It just seems to work really well against the current meta, at least at high ELO. It is important to properly understand your match-ups, though, and which moves you can afford to tank.

I'll try to answer any questions I can.

Uses for green persimmons?

For the first time ever I had to thin my persimmon tree this year. It had a really good fruit set and very few fell off, so several branches had far too many on them.

I now have multiple small green persimmons. Not loads, but enough that I feel like I don't want to waste them.

They are Early Fuyu, a non-astringent variety, although I suspect the green fruits may still be somewhat astringent.

Does anyone know any recipes or other uses for them? Pickling them, maybe?

Explorer Gadget gone already (UK)

I had the Explorer Gadget yesterday, and still had it when the date rolled over to today, but sometime between then and now it has been taken away again. Tried resetting the app in case it was a bug, but still gone.

Anyone else already lost theirs?

Just encountered the most extraordinary bug

Sadly I didn't manage to get video or screenshots of it (too busy trying to win, which I did manage in the end).

In part it was just the well documented bug where when the battle starts your charged attack buttons don't appear, and they do not appear until the opponent uses a charged attack themselves.

But the really weird part was that my G. Weezing was over on the opponent's side of the battle, overlaying their Forretress, and both pokemon were facing to the sides of the screen (me left, them right) instead of each other.

Anyone else ever seen this one before?

Super squash plant

Fasciated squash flowers are not uncommon, but this year I have a whole plant which is fasciated.

The stem is very thick, it seems to have about 50% more vigour than the other plants, and is producing a lot of flowers.

I think I left my air layer attached too long...

In my defence, I only started it a month ago. I wasn't expecting it to grow quite this quickly.

I'm sure it'll be fine once I tease the roots out a bit.
