Is there any way to get Plants vs Zombies to work (on Android/Flip 2) beyond the opening logo?

Currently, using a Turnip driver on Flip 2/Android, it shows the first couple of logos and then a black screen forever. I thought this would be a lightweight game (USA version) but sadly it doesn't seem to work -- is there a workaround at all? Cheers!

Which lightweight Secret Console games work on the Flip 2 without having to mess with settings?

Just wondering what plug and play games there are that are pretty lightweight so hopefully don't tax the battery too much.

For instance, has anyone tried Plants vs Zombies Replanted? Or the Shadow of Doubt games? Or Worms Armageddon?

What's a British era or topic that you'd love the BBC or Channel 4 to make a quality drama about?

I was thinking about this yesterday, as I was watching the US cable show 'Halt and Catch Fire' which is a drama from around 2016 and is set in the early 80s about the making of computers (think the era of IBM and Apple 2, etc etc), and it's really stylish and beautifully shot, with great music (80s tracks plus synthwave stuff).

Anyway, it made me think that I'd love a drama (again, well written with a great soundtrack and stylishly shot) about the British bedroom coders of the 80s, who taught themselves how to code and made some of the most groundbreaking games, and then would join these small gaming studios and would often find massive success (and often not). I'd love a show that starts with a guy making a game in his house, sends it to a software house, and their journey (the studio) from the 80s into the 90s. I could see someone like Edgar Wright doing it (the stylish editing/transitions from Spaced), partnering with Shane Meadows/Jack Thorne (the realistic writing and 80s setting from This Is England), would be amazing.

What eras or topics from the UK would you like to be made into quality TV dramas?

Why is TLC making new panel shows and Dave isn't?

I might have missed something, but I thought Dave (original home of Taskmaster) was a place for new panel shows (outside of Channel 4 and BBC), but I saw TLC has brought back Mock The Week and has that new Richard Ayoade panel show too. Is there a reason for that? I thought TLC was an educational channel.

How is 'Benidorm is Murder' on Channel 5?

Obviously it's not going to be at Happy Valley levels, but is it worth a watch nonetheless?

Personal theory: I think there's a legal/contractual reason that Gervais doesn't mention SMerch

I was thinking about this last night and that.

Maybe during the early production of the David Brent movie, there must have been discussions on the rights over the David Brent character. Maybe Gervais argued that during the writing of The Office, he came up with Brent and wrote the vast majority of Brent's mannerisms and iconic lines and personality traits, and therefore he claimed authorship of the Brent character. That argument seems to have won out, but any mention of Merchant and The Office could invite a suggestion that Smerch came up with key moments involving Brent, and could therefore risk the authorship that Gervais claims of the Brent character (which could maybe lead to Gervais owing money to Smerch for the Brent movie or, maybe crucially, for possible future Brent content).

Just an idea that it isn't arrogance or stubborness, but that he's actually been warned by a lawyer that mentioning Smerch could put him at legal risk due to agreements/contracts related to the Brent movie or current Brent ownership.

HBO should make a Titanic mini-series in the style of Chernobyl

I was thinking about this after reading the book 'On A Sea Of Glass', which is a detailed and accurate account of the Titanic disaster. It made me realise the Titanic movie, being focused on the romance and missing many aspects that made the Titanic so interesting (and terrible), really missed the mark.

What would work best is a series in the style of Chernobyl, much darker and looking before and after the ship launched and sank (and not having cartoon villains, by having accurate portrayals of the captain and Ismay).

For example, it could be something like:

  • Episode 1: starting in 1909 with the ship being build in Belfast, introducing people like Ismay and Andews, the dangerous conditions to build it, some of the discussions about lifeboat regulations that were had, ending with Titanic in Southampton and having someone look at the giant ship.

  • Episode 2: The departure of the ship, looking at some of the passengers (and crew), but not overly focusing on them like the movie, but more in the style of Chernobyl. It would include Titanic nearly colliding with a ship as it left Southampton, and go over the first few days - with temperature falling, the ice warnings being ignored, lookouts repeatedly asking for binoculars, and a general tension in the air. Episode ending with the bell being rang, warning of an iceberg ahead.

  • Episode 3, now we're in nearly real-time, covering the first hour after the iceberg hits Titanic, and how most passengers don't take the problem seriously, but the flooding in the lower decks (postal rooms etc), with episode ending with the first distress call and first lifeboat going (with only a few people in it)

  • Episode 4: nearly real-time again, when things start to break apart on the ship, with power starting to be lost, lifeboats continuing to leave with many empty seats, wives leaving husbands, with the episode ending on a view of the ship which is clearly going down.

  • Episode 5: super harrowing and again nearly real-time, with remaining ships leaving, the ship upturning and breaking up (but not seen from far away, but only from what people see on the ship or the lifeboats), and the ship sinking under the water - but the episode ending with the 1,500 people in the water crying for help, fading to black.

  • Episode 6, the developments in the water, like the debates in lifeboats about turning back (most didn't), the people clinging to Collapsible B (the upside down boat), one of the offices joining up lifeboats and going back, plus (for the first time) a view outside of Titanic, to Carpathia firing a rocket as it approaches dangerously fast, with the rockets seen by the lifeboats but an eerie silence as all the cries for help have stopped.

  • Episode 7: the Carpathia rescue and life on that ship (such as Ismay distraught and not leaving his room), and this could maybe now include what happened in New York as the press found out about the sinking and had lots of mistakes (initially said all lives were saved), and then looking at the massive crowd as Carpathia arrived in New York, ending with a nearly silent five minute scene of the Mackay-Bennet ship going back to the wreck area and seeing hundreds of bodies floating in the sea (in lifejackets), many being quietly hauled up to the ship (with some embalmed, but third class passengers thrown back into the sea).

  • Episode 8: this, like Chernobyl, could go into the two political enquiries (with many politicians doing basic mistakes) and the results that occured. I'm not quite sure how it would end - I think a view of the Titanic under the water would be a bit cheesy.

Anyway, anyone else agree this would be more appropriate to Titanic than the romance story we got?

If the BBC was to bring back Noel's House Party today, but with a new presenter, who is this generation's Noel Edmonds?

So someone at the BBC decides it's time for a big Saturday evening show, and a return to the House Party format is the way to do it. However, with Noel in New Zealand, they need to name it 'Name's House Party' with a new presenter, who can carry a show that's got all the elements that the original House Party had (including Blobby).

Who is this generation's Noel Edmonds that could bring House Party back to its former glory?

Just to clarify, it needs a presenter who can do:

  • Gotcha hidden camera pranks on celebrities

  • Interviewing children and members of the public

  • Gunging celebrities

  • Speaking with random celebrities at the front door

  • Interact with Mr Blobby a lot

  • Do opening monologues that build up the world of Crinkley Bottom

What's a popular British TV show that is LEAST likely to be revived today?

So lots of shows that were popular back in the day are being brought back to TV today - like Gladiator, Big Break, etc etc.

What's a show that was popular back then but that you think is LEAST likely to be brought back today?

I remembered 'Celebrity Fat Club' earlier (it went for four series on ITV!), and realised because of all those Ozempic jabs now, it couldn't really be brought back.

If there was a list of the all-time best TV shows, which non-US shows would make the cut?

I've noticed that lists of the best TV shows of all-time tend to heavily skew US, mainly because the lists tend to be made by US outlets. And those outside of that (The Guardian did one a few years back that was heavily British, with a few US ones dotted on it) don't seem to be truly worldwide.

So if we were going to make a list of the all-time best TV shows - those shows that are hailed as brilliant by those that have watched them - which non-US shows would make the cut?

I'd love to see such a list put together!

If everyone in the UK woke up tomorrow with the eye perception of a mantis shrimp, how would that change the country?

So imagine tomorrow that something happens, and suddenly everyone within the UK borders now has the eyesight of a mantis shrimp (so instead of three colour receptive cones, we'd have 12 - and could now see ultraviolet, infrared, and other new colours), how do you think it would change things for the country in the short and long term?

Sorry, I dreamt of this last night and it got me thinking.

Anyone know when Oxide & Neutrino is releasing Execute (25th Anniversary vinyl)?

I read this article a few weeks back and it said Execute, a damn garage classic, is coming back in a 25th Anniversary edition in May. But it's June now. Anyone know if this is real or a mistake from that website?

What playground/school games could make great TV competition shows?

Unless I'm mistaken, I don't think they've done a TV version of 'tag' (or 'tiggy' as we called it for some reason), which would probably hosted by Ian Wright.

I'd also love to see a big budget, competitive version of thumb wars on daytime BBC1 hosted by Craig Charles.

Will Tom Scarpling's 'Meet My Friends The Friends' ever return, or is wolf dead?

My favourite podcast I think (alongside Hollywood Masterclass) to relisten to, and really hoped it would cover every episode of Friends. But no updates for a long time now. Anyone know if there's any chance of a return?

My favourite DS game to play on my phone is WordJong, but it had one frustration that I fixed with a romhack...

... that frustration being the word list/dictionary rejecting perfectly valid words, including swear words, city names, country names, company names, video game names (such as Pokemon). Okay, I understand why they reject them, but for me personally, I found it frustrating. So I went into the rom file and added around 1,500 new words to the dictionary for an 'ultimate edition' of this obscure DS game that works perfectly with touch screen on a phone (no button pressed needed).

I wondered if there's other similar games that could be improved with simple hacks like this, maybe Bookworm DS could be the next one to do.
