How common is minoxidil use within Korea?

Over the past few years I’ve been experiencing hair loss. In my home country minoxidil use is taken quite seriously, even people like myself will hold off using it for years because they are worried about side effects etc. I recently started using it and a lot of my family expressed that I should hold off and keep trying other solutions. During my last Korea trip I went to some pharmacies and beauty stores as I have a lot of positive experiences with korean skincare so I thought why not try hair care? I was quite shocked at how casually minoxidil was suggested. Multiple pharmacies told me it’s very common in Korea to even use it as a preventative. Is this true?

What are some less obvious walking routes for someone new to get city to get a real feel for it?

(Not a tourism question, genuinely want to get to know my new home)

Lived in Scotland my whole life but Edinburgh was never somewhere I spent a lot of time. I enjoyed it when I visited, but never really went outwith the main tourist routes. In a couple of days I will move to the city to start university. I have around 10 days before my course starts to get a feel for the city, I don’t have a lot of money but I love walking. I can spend hours a day walking. Does anyone have any less obvious walking route recommendations that will give me a really good feel for the city? I don’t want to stay in the bubble that a lot of university students do. I want to actually get to know Edinburgh and make it my home.

Do you give low ratings to riders who you pick up after a night of partying who look a mess?

My uber rating as a rider has always been quite high. I’m always polite, never slam doors. Last month I was traveling in a new country and I went out partying a few times. The clubs stayed open until 11am so I was always getting picked up around then, a lot of the time I’d mostly sobered up and was completely fine but I did probably look a total mess. I always said hello and thank you when getting into the uber. I’ve come back from this country now with a lower uber rating. Does generally looking a mess get you marked down?

Is anyone else starting university in their late 20’s/early 30’s?

Grew up in an extremely traumatic childhood/teenage years which resulted in my early 20’s being chaos because I felt so lost. I spent some years trying my best to heal and develop healthy habits, saved up and went traveling. Now at 29 years old, I start university next week. Whilst I feel like this is a huge positive for me as my end goal is eventually leaving the country I grew up in and moving elsewhere which a degree is mostly essential for. I can’t help but grieve the normal life path I always grew up wanting. This is the age I thought I’d have a stable job, would have met the man I was going to spend the rest of my life with and have kids. I also feel extremely behind in terms of just human connection. Whilst I’ve had friendships and met people traveling, I always have the understanding for them it’s just nice in the moment and they know they have a whole core group of people to travel home to. I have nobody. On top of this, I know being in my home country makes me unhappy and I unfortunately have to do my studies here. There is also just the general anxiety of knowing there might not be people my age in my classes. I was wondering if anyone is also starting university soon around my age? I think it would be good to have some people to discuss starting with as I don’t have that many people in my life and the ones I do kind of have no understand of the position I’m in.

Anyone else about to start university in their late 20’s/early 30’s?

Turned 29 this summer and next week I will be starting university. I’m feeling mixed emotions, grateful for the opportunity and happy that I’m taking enough interest in my future to realise that I should have a degree. On the more negative side I feel extremely behind all my peers. This is the age I thought in my dream life I would have a good job and now be focused on finding the man I’m most compatible with to have kids and start our life. I had a traumatic childhood/teens and as a result of that the first half of my 20’s was a mess and my main focus was surviving and healing. Second half of my 20’s I saved up money and went traveling, I’ve had amazing experiences and realised how much it’s not good for me to be in my home country. The only negative being when I connect with people my own age I meet traveling they mostly have a good foundation: family, education, career path and I can feel them sort of pity me for how lost I am. I have moved back to my home country and now my 3 year university course will begin. I’d like to hear from anyone else who’s about to return to education at this age. The idea of being able to connect and discuss how we feel as we start our courses seems nice as I don’t really have anyone in my life who understands.

In Korea at what bmi number is someone typically considered “normal weight”?

I don’t mean skinny but just normal and not considered fat. I know the asian bmi scale is different but I’m more just asking what number in terms of physical looks would a korean just consider themselves a normal size.

Are language exchange scams common in Seoul or Korea in general?

A few years ago whilst traveling in a different country I fell into a language exchange scam that had been set up by a restaurant owner whilst travelling. It was disappointing because I love language exchanges when traveling for meeting a mix of local people and other travelers, I’m also someone who travels often and never usually falls for scams so I was quite shocked when it happened. I’m in Seoul right now and I’ve noticed on apps like nomad there is a lot of people posting about language exchanges or even just local people posting saying they’d like to meet up for a coffee to practice English. Does anyone have an experiences with language exchanges here? Were they positive? Is there anything I should look out for?

Is there some sort of weird tactical thing around buying items to not pick them up?

The past month I’ve done a big clear out because I’m moving and been selling a lot of it on vinted. Occasionally someone would buy an item of clothing and not pick it up but when I started selling vintage home decor and antiques it started happening at a really frustrating rate. Most of the time the people buying are vinted accounts dedicated to selling vintage and antiques, they buy the item within minutes of it being listed, allow it to sit in an InPost locker for days and then don’t pick it up so it’s returned. Is there some sort of weird tactical thing going on? Are they trying to take people selling cheaper things than theirs off the app? Are they buying loads of the same thing then picking up the cheapest one? Are they buying to resell then when they realise they might not make a profit, not picking it up? Maybe I’m overthinking but it seems kind of suspicious. I’ve put my vinted profile on holiday and decided to stopped selling because if just feels like a total waste of time after more items not being picked up than items being pick up.

Are there any venues/agencies that offer some what flexible part time work in the city?

I help care for a family member and don’t tend to know the days I’ll be helping out until a couple of weeks in advance once I figure it out with my family. When I lived in Glasgow and did the first two years of my degree I worked for a couple of venues that offered shifts on a sign up basis. There was occasionally busy nights where it was mandatory to work but most of the time if you were signing up for enough shifts overall it was fine. I’m going to be moving to Edinburgh after summer to finish the last two years of my degree and I’ll be in university but also would appreciate part time work I can do on a sign up basis. I am willing to work a decent amount of hours but honestly it’s just the flexibility of when I could do it.

Recommendations for places that sell meals like this in Seoul?

I’ve been to Seoul before a couple of years ago but it was freezing and I stuck to soup based dishes to keep warm. In Hong Kong I got this at a Korean restaurant and loved it. I’m hopefully returning to Seoul soon and wondering if anyone has any recommendations for places that serve meals like this?

Currently on my first trip to China. Spent some time in beijing then moved on to shanghai. I’ve had an amazing few days exploring the city before the holiday chaos begins. Are there any unique things that happen during the holiday that I’d be able to see or experience? Also, is there any places you’d recommend skipping during the busy time?
