Niche movie about seals
I’m starting to think I maybe just dreamed this, and it’s not an actual movie, but maybe someone can help. My step-grandma had this movie I would watch as a kid and I can’t remember the name, but I remember a few key details if it’s real. Whatever it is, it’s nothing I’ve been able to google, so it’s really niche.
- the movie is older, probably between the 50s and 70s, but it was definitely real people with a trained seal, and not animated. It is in color.
- the movie followed this seal pup who got stranded and found by a man who lived and worked on the ocean, though I can’t remember his actual job. I think he was a fisherman.
- the man raises the seal in his home with his granddaughter, she is probably between 7-12 years of age. If I remember correctly, they either raised the seal pup through the winter, or through the rest of the pup raising season.
- the man had a set of stairs or a platform built on the beach that, during high tide, was inaccessible, so he would warn his granddaughter to not be stuck on the platform during high tide.
-the end of the movie I think is where the granddaughter realizes the seal pup has grown and needs to go home, so she takes the seal to the aforementioned platform as high tide is coming, and “sets the seal free”.
-I feel like this movie took place somewhere in Northern European area, Greenland, Iceland, New England area of the world if it helps.
From what I can google, it’s not Andre, this movie wasn’t a comedy. It’s not Sandy the Seal, or The Golden Seal. I’m ready to accept the fact this movie probably doesn’t exist and my childhood made it all up, but any help is appreciated!
