Picture to pendant

First attempt at casting a picture in silver. I used displacement modifier to convert 2D picture to 3D. I think it looks close for a metal casting

Picture to silver pendant

Wanted to see if I could create a 3d pendant from a 2D picture. I am going to try again and make it a bit larger. This one is only about 2” tall.

Recently cast crosses

Just finished these two crosses. I build models with sprues in 3d software and then print on 3d resin printer. Build tree, add investment, burnout and vacuum cast from melted sterling flatware. They came out pretty good but still have minor blemishes, not sure I can get them much better. Possibly use pure sterling silver instead of used flatware?

Segments 12-13

Just completed 12-13. Great condition plenty of water and besides the last 2+ miles of asphalt and dirt road hiking a great few days. So far completed 1-8, 12-13. Little smoky on 5 and 8 just depended on whether it rained the day before or not. Have fun and FarOut app was indispensable.

Twin lakes conditions

I just completed section 7 and it was Smokey enough that I have a cough today. Considering whether or not to do section 8 or jump down past Twin Lakes. Thoughts?

Do hikers still have access to Tennessee Pass to start or stop hiking

I just finished 1-6 and have a place to stay in Breckenridge so I was considering reverse hiking segment 7-8 back to Breckenridge. Is it still possible to be dropped off at Tennessee Pass to hike north?

Finished 1-5

Farout app is very useful and accurate. Survived on 2 liter carry except after section 2 since we dry camped at Little Scraggy mile 27.5. We r moving on to section 6-7 or 8 tomorrow based on smoke and fire direction. Smoke was noticeably on section 5 yesterday. Ended day with blood shot eyes and slight sore throat but great day hiking otherwise. Very few people on trail.. saw maybe 6 over whole section.

Smoked out?

Just saw a warning from Breckenridge about smoke throughout the area. Suggested not hiking. We are starting SOBO on Friday. Thoughts?

Furnace is dead

Switch on furnace broke. It shorted out so I replaced it but apparently it took out the thermocouple as well. Once I got it going again I started my programmed burnout and while the settings were correct the furnace was maxed out. Good thing I caught it after an hour or so. It was so hot it ruined my stainless steel casting flask. Be careful.

Using Tabletop furnace. Ordered a new Vevor. Already have one and it seems better insulated and made.

How much water

Usually I would only carry 3 liters of water but due to drought I’m bringing an extra liter of capacity which I’ll fill when necessary for long no or low water segments. Thoughts? It’s supposed to be a wet summer so maybe I don’t need it?? Leaving Denver on 26th SOBO

Sprue design

I’ve tried casting this half a dozen times with different sprue designs. Most of the problems are incomplete lettering and minor pitting far from the sprues. In all cases the sprues were probably too small diameter. This one I’m going with a funnel like sprue that feeds either side of the text plaque. I also think I had too many “dead ends in the card guard filigree which I fixed here by ending the filigree in the text plaque.

I’ve made lots of these with pretty good success but this one is killing me. Any ideas beyond those discussed above are appreciated.

Durango to Denver Travel

Starting trail on 25th of June and arriving in Durango end of July. Only thing left unplanned is how to get back to Denver from Durango. Any suggestions? Flying is a bit expensive.

How’s your Crown Chakra?

Posted a Crown Chakra pendant here early this week. This is a cleaner and better version. I’m wearing this one to my next Yoga class

Much better.

Posted a Crown Chakra pendant here early this week. This is a cleaner and better version. I’m wearing this one to my next Yoga class.

Thicker sprues, more sprues, and thinner pendant and I got all the definition. It’s nice when it only takes 2 attempts to get what I want. Never got it on first cast of new design.

The fifth picture is the first attempt. Lost some of the channels
