Why are births in Azerbaijan plummeting?

Could too much urban concentration in Baku be playing a role? I'm not Azerbaijani but I really like this country so I'm concerned.

Anyone else very frustrated with player quality of this league?

I was watching Gangwon vs. Gamba Osaka which Gangwon narrowly lost 1–0 in extra time. And the whole game I was thinking "if the Gangwon players were maybe just 10% better they would've comfortably won" and thus qualify for CLE. Gangwon was playing some great football against the CL2 champs but the ultimate lack of finishing quality and squad depth for extra time proved fatal. There's only so much tactics and spirit you can drill into a ragtag group of free transfers.

We all know the K League has fallen behind the J League and Saudi Pro but what's super frustrating is feeling that our league would be so much better if our clubs spent just a bit more on quality talent and basic infrastructure. A club spending more than 2 million in a transfer window is virtually unheard of and most clubs spend zero. I really think we'd regularly win the CL again if we just had balanced squads with a 25–35 million euro market value. The problem though is that corporate owners only care about baseball which is what everyone watches and civilian clubs have little money. And if you try to privatize a civilian club the fans protest even though they're running on taxes.

I heard from a Suwon Samsung Bluewings insider that the club is spending 5 billion won more this year to chase promotion. But the parent company Samsung is expected to earn 400 trillion won in profits this year. Literally 1/80000 of their annual profits. Pretty much the same story with Jeonbuk Hyundai who sold off all their key players after winning the league last year which is why I don't expect them to do well in the CL this year, not to mention lost their manager.

I really wish more people in this country cared about this league and just local football in general 😭 there's so much potential but not enough seem to care which is why we're left with mediocre squads and shitty running track stadiums. This country has produced genuine world class players and our league is still the record AFC Champions League winners. But instead of building on past greatness we've been stagnating because we only invest the bare minimum while the leadership goes through scandal after scandal. I can't blame our young talent leaving for greener pastures in Europe so early

South Korea, Taiwan top Japan in exports for first time on AI boom

>TOKYO -- South Korea and Taiwan each surpassed Japan in total exports for the first time during the first half of 2026, according to a Nikkei analysis.

>While South Korea and Taiwan saw exports surge on booming demand for semiconductors used for artificial intelligence, Japan benefited less because its strengths lie mainly in semiconductor materials and manufacturing equipment. The results reflect Japan's lag in supplying the finished products most in demand globally.

>The findings are based on an analysis of trade statistics from Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, supplemented by data from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and U.N. Comtrade database converted into dollars, with assistance from Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting.

>Japan's exports totaled $384.4 billion in the January-June period, compared with $496.3 billion for South Korea and $416.6 billion for Taiwan. While Japan's exports increased by nearly 10% year over year, South Korea and Taiwan each posted gains approaching 50%.

>Behind the trend was explosive growth in demand for semiconductors used for AI. Advanced chips are produced by Taiwan's TSMC and Hon Hai Precision Industry, and South Korea's Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.

>Integrated circuit exports totaled $149 billion in South Korea and $133 billion in Taiwan during the first half, representing about 30% of each economy's total exports. South Korea's exports in the six-month period alone surpassed those for all of 2025. Japan's exports of integrated circuits totaled just $21.2 billion, or around 5% of overall exports.

>Japan has a competitive advantage in semiconductor manufacturing equipment and materials. Japanese companies including Tokyo Electron, Advantest and Lasertec hold leading positions in global markets and have capitalized on AI-related demand through the global expansion of chip production capacity.

>Japan's exports of semiconductor manufacturing equipment totaled $15 billion in the first half, well above South Korea's $5.2 billion and Taiwan's $3.5 billion. Yet Japan remained behind because South Korea and Taiwan produce high-value advanced chips, finished products whose market is expanding rapidly.

>"Japan has a competitive advantage in upstream processes, including chip design and manufacturing equipment," said Kenta Maruyama of Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting. "Even if chip exports rise globally, shipments of materials and manufacturing equipment are less likely to grow rapidly."

>The yen's historic weakness has depressed the dollar value of Japan's exports. But currency movements cannot fully explain the outcome, as both the South Korean won and the New Taiwan dollar have also trended lower against the dollar.

>Nor can the gap be explained solely by the AI chip boom.

>Japan's export volume index, which excludes price fluctuations to measure changes in shipment volumes, has remained largely flat since peaking before the 2008 global financial crisis.

Will Hwaseong actually win promotion?

A game surreal even by K2 standards. Hwaseong destroying a K1 regular. Leonard Pllana with 5G/As. If Hwaseong gets promoted to K1, it might be one of the biggest shocks in Korean football history. People are going to call for Cha becoming NT manager, but I wanna see him further cook in the league first. We definitely need more guys with European experience bringing their knowledge to the local game.

K League is gonna have to switch from fall to spring

I've seen two games in a row now where a spectator has had a medical emergency.

I think ideally there'd be 16-18 teams in K1 and they play each other twice.

The Korea Cup and ACL have already switched so it seems inevitable the league will too, maybe as early as next year.

Gudeok Stadium in Busan sells out for the first time in 24 years for top of the table K2 clash vs. Suwon

I'm guessing like half of the "home" fans in this game as Suwon infiltrators.

Also although it's sold out online, there are always a few tickets made available for purchase at the stadium, so it might be worth a try to visit if you're there.
