What's the most cost-effective way (that isn't piracy) to watch 4K content on my new C6H?
I have a C6H coming on Monday and I’m trying to figure out the best, most cost-effective way to actually take advantage of the TV’s picture quality.
I have maybe 10–20 4K Blu-rays, and I’m assuming those will give me the highest possible fidelity. However, I don’t really have the money or space to keep building a large physical collection, at least for now. I checked my local library, but unfortunately they only lend DVDs.
I see Apple TV recommended a lot. I already own an Apple TV 4K, so I’m wondering if people mean the Apple TV hardware or the Apple TV streaming/rental service. I’m open to renting movies, but I’m not particularly interested in Apple’s original content.
For example, if I rent a movie that supports 4K Dolby Vision on Apple TV, say The Dark Knight, is it basically just a matter of renting it and watching, or are there settings I need to change to make sure I’m actually getting 4K + Dolby Vision? What happens with movies that don’t have a 4K/Dolby Vision version, especially older films? Does the Apple TV automatically give me the highest-quality version available?
More broadly, what do you guys recommend for getting the most out of a C6H without spending a fortune on physical media? I’m especially interested in the best bang-for-the-buck options for watching movies in 4K HDR/Dolby Vision, including rentals, streaming services, digital purchases, library options, etc.
I bought this TV primarily for gaming on my Switch 2 and because I want to start watching more movies at home. I currently have a tiny 50" TV, so I’ve generally preferred going to the theater rather than watching movies at home. With the C6H, I’m hoping the experience will be good enough that I’ll actually want to watch more movies at home.
I’d love to hear how other C6H/OLED owners approach this, especially if there are any cheap or overlooked ways to get high-quality 4K content.
