Title. Basically I have no choice but to use a Chromebook for work. The poor thing can’t run the 5k2k at the native resolution and caps out at 4k. Can I change the monitor somehow so that I have a crisp 4k screen with black bars? Thanks!

Hi - I have a LG 45 inch 5k2k monitor that I adore. I’m starting a new job which sent me a Chromebook, when I connect it directly via thunderbolt the resolution is garbage. Is there anyway I can run the monitor at a higher resolution? :(

Starting with Google in a few weeks and am curious what onboarding and the first week looks like? Will I even meet my team in the first week? Any feedback appreciated :-)

Hi everyone! I’m joining Google in about a month, working in Corporate Finance, and I’ve already been sent a Chromebook as part of the onboarding process.

I had assumed I’d be able to choose between a MacBook and a Chromebook, but it looks like that’s not the case.
I have a few questions for anyone working at Google, especially in Finance:

1. Do most people in Finance use Chromebooks, or are MacBooks fairly common?

2. If you start with a Chromebook, is it easy to switch to a MacBook later? Is that a normal request, or is it generally discouraged?

3)How do you handle Excel? I know Google Sheets is the standard (and I actually prefer it), but there are times when Excel is just more practical, especially for very large datasets or when working with files from external partners.

Would love to hear what the typical setup is and how people make it work. Thanks!

Hi all, posting this as a final sense check before I jump into the investing world.

I’m 30 and have about $400k sitting in a high yield savings account. I keep looking at the gains I’d have made if I’d invested a few years back, and I think it’s finally time to make the jump.

I don’t need the money anytime soon (assuming no emergencies 🤞). No plans to buy a house/apt in the next 5 years (I live in NYC and don’t want one) or a car. This is mostly play money at this point but I want it to keep up with inflation.

The plan is VOO (70%) and VXUS (30%), invested through Vanguard since my employer’s 401k is already there.

I’m not planning to dollar cost average. I’d rather just get it over with.

My biggest fear is a crash, which feels like a real possibility with all the AI stuff going on and the state of global politics. But even if that happens, I figure we’d bounce back within 5 years or so.

Any final recommendations before I pull the trigger? Thanks.
