Snagit alternative
I am a long-time Snagit user currently migrating my professional development workflow to CachyOS (KDE Plasma). I am looking for a "powerhouse" screenshot tool that offers a similar feature set to Snagit.
What I am looking for:
- Screenshot Library/Dashboard: A centralized, searchable history where I can see past captures, easily copy-paste them, and manage them without constantly switching to my file manager.
- Editing/Stitching: Capability to easily merge/join multiple images (horizontal and vertical stitching). : most useful
- Advanced Annotation: Tools for numbering steps, drawing shapes (rectangles/arrows), and blurring sensitive data.
- Presets: Ability to set up capture presets (e.g., specific region shapes).
What I have tried/considered:
- I have looked into [mention tools like Shutter or Ksnip if you have tested them], but I am struggling to find a single, integrated "all-in-one" experience that matches the Snagit editor's fluidity.
- I am currently using KDE Plasma on Wayland.
Total investments needed to run my local LLM
Hi, I'm considering building a high-end workstation capable of running frontier LLMs locally for intensive software engineering tasks (coding, code review, agentic workflows, multi-repository analysis, and fine-tuning).
For those who have built similar systems, what level of investment would I be looking at today? I'm interested in understanding:
- Entry-level setup for local coding assistants
- Recommended setup for running current frontier open-weight models effectively
- High-end configuration that can comfortably handle large-context reasoning and multi-agent workflows
- GPU, RAM, storage, and CPU recommendations
- Expected performance compared to cloud offerings such as Claude, Gemini, and GPT
What would be the current best price-to-performance build, and how much capital should I realistically budget?
Which AI subscription is best as of today?
If you had a budget of USD $25 per month today, which AI productivity tool would you choose as the best value for a software engineer? I observed my Copilot is eating tokens crazy fast and thinking of moving better alternatives.
I'm primarily looking to improve my development productivity and am considering the following options:
- Cursor
- GitHub Copilot (have)
- Claude
- Antigravity (have)
- Z AI GLM
For those who have used multiple tools, which one provides the best return on investment in terms of code generation, debugging, codebase understanding, architecture assistance, and overall developer productivity?
Best way to find softwares
How can I find the exact package name using pacman? I tend to install most packages from the AUR because tools like Shelly display popularity metrics, making it easy to identify commonly used packages. For official repository packages, however, those popularity indicators aren't available in Shelly, which makes it harder to find the correct package. As a result, I often end up searching the AUR instead. Is there a better way to search for official packages and determine the exact package name?
Shell choise
Which shell are you using if you are a programmer? I'm using z shell for its customizability.
