Trinity TV Player v1.76 — found and fixed the real cause of navigation freezes

Trinity v1.76 is live. This one's a stability and performance release — most of the work went into actually finding the root cause of a real, reproducible stutter instead of just papering over symptoms.

Performance

  • Tracked down the actual cause of ~1-second freezes while browsing Movies/Shows: every poster on screen was carrying its own extra GPU rendering layer even while sitting still. Fixed so only the poster you're actively focused on carries one.
  • Transitions between the side rail, category groups, and Live TV are noticeably faster, and the video preview pane now stays in sync with them instead of visibly lagging a beat behind.

Fixed

  • Several focus issues browsing Movies/Shows posters — pressing Down could reset which column you were on, and Back didn't always return you to the exact category you were browsing
  • Picture-in-Picture could leave an empty floating window on screen if you backed out of the channel picker without choosing a channel
  • A popup in Movies/Shows (Hide Category/Manage Groups) wasn't responding to the Back button at all
  • The TV app icon appeared off-center on some Android TV boxes/launchers

Added

  • In Search, pressing Left now exits immediately, same as Back — no need to dismiss the keyboard first

As always, bug reports and feature requests are what drive these releases — keep them coming.

Trinity TV Player v1.73 — real background recording, floating mini-player, remote control fixes

Quick rundown of what's new:

Scheduled recording finally works properly. Set a future recording and it now runs as a real background job — reliably captures the program even if the app is closed.

New floating Picture-in-Picture mini player while you browse the guide — hold Down to send D-pad control to it, Up/Down changes its channel, OK brings up a group/channel picker, Back closes it.

Remote control got more accurate. A couple buttons (Page +/-, Backspace) were listed in Settings → Remote Control but silently did nothing — now they're wired up on both the Player and Guide screens.

Also in this one: a "Manage Visibility" screen to un-hide channels you've previously hidden, smaller/better-fitting PVR shortcut tiles, a first-run D-pad tutorial, and a fix for preview titles getting cut off on some 4K boxes.

Update in-app (Settings → Check for Updates) or download from trinitytvplayer.com.

Trinity TV Player v1.71

Mostly a navigation and polish release this time:

  • Appearance: reworked the Theme/Background/Font/Accent picker rows — they now show only complete color swatches (the old version could show a chip sliced in half at the edge), and moving around with a remote is far more reliable than before, especially once you've scrolled. Also added 6 new themes (Sunset, Neon, Sakura, Arctic, Volcanic, Copper) and more color options across the board.
  • Navigation fixes: a few different D-pad bugs around channel groups — switching groups from the full-screen shortcut menu, picking a channel from History, and the guide sidebar's Right button — could leave you stuck cycling through the wrong group or landing a few channels off. All fixed.
  • Boot launch: "Launch on boot" now works on more Android TV boxes, including some that don't send a standard boot signal. Full changelog: trinitytvplayer.com/changelog.html

Trinity TV Player v1.70

A new Appearance customization suite, and Cloud Profile restore that finally behaves.
• Settings → Appearance: Text Size, Font Family, Bold/Italic, plus a one-tap "Restore to defaults"
• Renamed cloud backup/restore to "Trinity Profile" — makes clear it saves your settings + each playlist's favourites/hidden channels/sort order, not the playlists themselves
• Fixed: restoring your profile no longer wipes out playlists that weren't part of the backup
• Several Settings navigation fixes (option pickers now wrap top/bottom instead of escaping to the side rail)
Update available now — grab it in-app or from the site.

Trinity v1.69 — Recently Watched library + load M3U playlists directly from your device Another update is out. Two of the bigger items this time came straight from user requests here and on Discord — thanks for those.

New

  • Recently Watched — the Watchlist screen now has a section that automatically tracks what you've actually watched, separate from anything you manually save to your list
  • Shows can now be added to the Watchlist too (previously movies-only)
  • Load M3U/M3U8 playlists directly from a file on your device — if your playlist isn't hosted anywhere with a URL, you can now just point Trinity at the file itself

Fixed

  • Live TV's LEFT-shortcut menu now respects your Guide's sort order and hidden groups
  • Auto-fullscreen on Live TV is more reliable — was occasionally not re-triggering after backing out, or triggering on the wrong channel while flipping through the guide
  • Holding OK on an episode now reliably opens its options menu
  • The Watchlist button no longer shows up blank on some show detail pages
  • Watchlist navigation now wraps around at the top/bottom instead of kicking you back out to the nav rail
  • The full-screen double-LEFT shortcut now correctly reopens Favorites/All Channels when you're watching something from one of those
  • Fixed a crash some Fire TV Stick users were hitting on app resume

Keep the feedback coming — it's directly shaping what gets built next.

v1.68 update: FTP-hosted M3U playlists now supported, phone swipe gestures, and loading fixes

Trinity v1.68 just shipped, and it includes FTP support for M3U/M3U8 playlists — you can now add a playlist hosted on FTP/FTPS the same way you'd add an http(s) one (ftp://user:pass@host/playlist.m3u8, or leave off the credentials for anonymous). Same on the website's playlist manager.

Also in this release: swipe gestures now cover the whole live TV menu on phone (not just channel up/down), an optional on-screen clock during playback, and several loading/display fixes for movies and shows. Full changelog: trinitytvplayer.com/changelog.html

Trinity TV Player — a D-pad-first IPTV player built for boxes like the Shield, free tier + one-time purchase

Been building Trinity TV Player for the last few months specifically with boxes like the Shield in mind — full Dolby Atmos passthrough, real 4K/HDR handling, and a UI designed around a remote from day one instead of a phone app with D-pad support bolted on.

Screenshot below is the actual live guide — full EPG grid, channel groups, live preview pane, no lag even on catalogs with 50k+ channels (there's a built-in AI health-check tool that finds dead/duplicate channels automatically if your list is a mess).

What it does:

  • No subscription — one-time purchase, yours forever, tiers just differ by device count ($15 for 1 device up to $50 for 10)
  • Free tier that's actually usable — live TV + full EPG guide, no trial games
  • Cloud backup for recordings straight to Google Drive
  • Multiview — up to 4 channels at once
  • Recording straight to local storage or a network share
  • Manage your whole playlist (hide/reorder channels and groups) from a browser instead of fighting the remote

trinitytvplayer.com if anyone wants to try it — sideloads clean via Downloader (code in the FAQ). Happy to answer questions, and genuinely want the feedback since half of what's shipped lately came from user reports.

Trinity TV Player v1.63 — automatic cloud backup for recordings (Google Drive), Dolby Atmos, recording-reliability fixes.

Trinity TV Player v1.63 — automatic cloud backup for recordings (Google Drive), Dolby Atmos, recording-reliability fixes

Trinity TV Player (free Android TV/mobile Stalker/Xtream/M3U client) just pushed v1.63. The headline feature this release is automatic cloud backup for recordings, which a lot of people here have asked about, so figured I'd share the details.

Cloud Backup (Google Drive)

Once connected, every finished recording gets compressed and uploaded to your own Google Drive automatically. After the upload's verified, the local copy is deleted, so your box's storage doesn't fill up over time. You can still play a cloud-backed-up recording straight from the app with no re-download needed.

Setup:

  1. Settings → Miscellaneous → Recording → Cloud Backup
  2. Tap Google Drive → Connect
  3. It shows a short device code — enter it at google.com/device on your phone/computer and sign in
  4. Done — no more manual steps after that

There's also a Wi-Fi-only toggle if you don't want uploads eating mobile/limited data.

Other changes in this release:

  • Dolby Atmos passthrough (real E-AC-3 JOC support), with an on-screen badge confirming it's active
  • Fixed a bug where recording the channel you're currently watching could permanently freeze playback (two connections to the same stream — most portals only serve one)
  • Recordings now auto-reconnect after a dropped connection instead of failing silently
  • Fixed recordings getting stuck at "RECORDING" forever if the app got killed mid-recording
  • Playlist Health Report: fixed an inaccurate "channels missing a guide" stat and a Deep Scan false-positive issue on large playlists
  • New AI tool to auto-fix channels sitting in the wrong group

Free to use, Android TV + mobile. Full changelog: https://trinitytvplayer.com/changelog.html
Download: https://trinitytvplayer.com

Happy to answer questions in the comments.

Trinity TV Player — v1.62 out now (catching up on 1.60–1.62, sorry for the quiet stretch)

Things got busy for a bit and I fell behind on posting updates here, so this covers three releases at once (1.60, 1.61, 1.62). Full technical changelog is always at trinitytvplayer.com/changelog.html, but here's the highlight reel:

**New**
- Manage groups now has a Live TV / VOD tab, so you can hide or reorder VOD categories the same way you already manage live TV groups — including a quick long-press-to-hide from the Movies/Shows rail itself
- Single LEFT/RIGHT press on the remote now zaps to the previous/next live channel, TiviMate-style
- M3U/M3U8 playlists now support catch-up (rewind live TV, watch something from earlier)

**Fixed**
- The HD/FHD/4K quality badge was just wrong in a couple of ways: it had no FHD tier at all (so 1080p streams showed as plain "HD"), and it was trusting the stream's own declared resolution instead of what the decoder actually outputs — which meant sloppily-tagged 4K and SD streams could show up mislabeled too. Both fixed.
- Live TV connection drops now show a clear "reconnecting" screen with a manual retry option instead of just freezing with no explanation
- A handful of VOD grid layout bugs — cut-off posters/captions, stray text from the row above bleeding into view, long titles and descriptions not scrolling to show the full text
- Kiosk mode no longer restricts which channels/categories you can browse — it only locks down navigation, as intended
- Fixed a crash on certain streams, and a gzip-related EPG loading bug
- Several remote-control navigation fixes in playlist setup and Appearance settings

If you're seeing this, an update should already be waiting for you in Settings. Thanks for the patience and for the bug reports — most of this batch came straight from things people flagged.

Trinity v1.57 — Live TV back button fix, EPG fixes, and an Android TV Appearance fix

Shipped v1.57 today. Highlights:

  • Live TV back button — fixed it not exiting full screen playback. It was technically working every time, it just returned you to an identical-looking screen so it looked broken.
  • EPG: channels with no schedule data (or a dead "No information available" placeholder some providers send) now show the channel's own name in the guide instead — makes PPV/event channels whose info is only in the channel name actually usable. Also fixed several EPG settings (Clear EPG, Past days to keep, Store descriptions, Update on playlists change) that weren't consistently doing what they said.
  • Playlists: added up/down reorder buttons — also reorders the merged guide to match.
  • Android TV: fixed Appearance → Accent's color names being unreachable on some boxes (screen wasn't accounting for real hardware overscan cropping); swatches are smaller now too so more fit without scrolling.
  • Fixed a phone-only Exit button that was leaking onto the Android TV nav rail.
  • Small splash-screen logo polish.

Update via Settings → Check for Updates, or from the site. Thanks for all the reports this week — keep them coming.

Trinity TV Player v1.55 — a real pass on the mobile/phone experience (and an apology)

Update's live — Settings → Check for Update, or fresh from trinitytvplayer.com.

Testing this week made it obvious mobile hasn't been getting the same love as Android TV. Several basic things — a Back button, reaching your cloud playlists, even touch controls during playback — just weren't there on phone. Sorry about that. We're actively working to bring mobile up to the same standard as TV, and this release is a big chunk of that work.

What was actually broken on phone:

  • "Add a Playlist" was missing the Get from Trinity Cloud option and had no Back button at all
  • The Back button that does exist now sits at the top of the screen instead of requiring a scroll to find; the very first-launch screen gets one too
  • Movies/Shows had literally no touch controls during playback — no rewind, no pause, nothing. Added a full set (rewind/play/pause/forward), plus a way back to categories from the poster grid
  • Live TV: tapping the screen now brings up the real playback panel — pause, rewind, fast-forward, Last Channel, History, and Multiview (split screen). Before this, every one of those was reachable by remote control only, meaning they didn't exist on phone at all
  • Added clear, labeled Back buttons across Live TV, Multiview, and Recording playback — some of these screens had no way back via touch, period
  • Free accounts can now reach Settings → Check for Updates (was blocked behind the Enhanced screen); About now checks automatically and shows the result instead of requiring a manual tap

Also fixed:

  • A bug where backing out of a slow-loading movie/show and picking a different one could let the abandoned one silently take over playback later if it finished resolving after you'd moved on

Let me know what's still rough on your end — this pass came directly from testing feedback, and more of the same is exactly what's useful right now.

Trinity TV Player v1.54 — fixed a nasty cloud-playlist bug that could wipe your other playlists, plus a random grey-screen fix

Update's live — grab it from Settings → Check for Update, or fresh from trinitytvplayer.com.

If you use "Get from Trinity Cloud," a bug could delete your other playlists on import, and a couple of you hit random grey screens or channels that just wouldn't tune. Both fixed.

Cloud playlists

  • Fixed the big one: "Get from Trinity Cloud" could wipe out playlists already on the device when you only selected some of the cloud ones to import. If you've had playlists mysteriously vanish after using this feature, this was it.
  • The playlist picker now starts with nothing pre-checked, so you only pull what you actually select
  • Pulling a playlist now shows real sync progress (channel/movie/show counts) instead of syncing quietly in the background with no feedback
  • Fixed playlist counts getting stuck at 0/0/0 for a while after a cloud pull, even though it was already synced and usable
  • Found and fixed a bug that could send the literal text "null" as a device ID instead of no ID at all — this was a likely cause of random "Device conflict" errors, especially on households running Trinity on several TVs off one cloud-pulled playlist
  • Clearer error message when a portal actually does report a device conflict

Playback

  • Fixed a full-screen grey/blank screen that could show up right after launch or during live TV
  • Fixed live channels sometimes just refusing to tune — no error, no play indicator, nothing — after clearing app data and pulling multiple playlists from the cloud in one session
  • Fixed the boot channel occasionally tuning through the wrong playlist's portal on startup
  • Fixed a rare crash right after restoring a cloud backup
  • Fixed a crash affecting some older Android TV boxes
  • VOD indexing now runs on a time budget instead of grinding unbounded in the background on huge catalogs

I built an Android TV player — Trinity TV Player, feedback welcome

Hey — developer here, not just a user, wanted to be upfront about that.

I've been building an Android TV app called Trinity TV Player. Supports Stalker/Ministra, Xtream, and M3U portals, EPG, multi-playlist support, catch-up/timeshift, recording (including straight to a NAS), and it's translated into 20+ languages.

Live TV is free to use, no time limit. A 2-day trial unlocks the rest (VOD/Search/Favorites/Recording, cloud backup, etc.) so you can try it out before deciding if it's for you.

Still a small project, still actively adding things based on what people ask for. Genuinely want feedback, bug reports, feature requests — happy to answer questions in the comments.

🎬 New: Manage your playlists from the website

You can now edit your Trinity playlists from a browser instead of only from the TV remote — head to trinitytvplayer.com → My Account → Playlists (Trinity Enhanced).

From the app: Settings → Playlists → Send to website pushes your playlists up. From there, on the website you can:

Add, edit, delete, and reorder whole playlists — including setting up a brand new one by typing your MAC/URL/credentials on a keyboard instead of a remote
Manage groups per playlist — rename, hide, reorder, set an EPG offset, or force external player, per group
Manage channels inside any group — search, hide individual channels, reorder them, and sort by name or channel number
Favorites now shows up as its own manageable group too, so you can browse and clean up your favorited channels from the website
When you're done editing, Settings → Playlists → Get from website pulls your changes back down to the app.

This is a first pass — if you hit anything confusing or broken, let us know here and we'll sort it out.

Trinity TV Player Discord server has launched

Hey everyone,

Since a few of you have been asking questions here and there, I set up a

Discord server for Trinity TV Player so there's a proper place for support,

bug reports, and feature requests instead of it being scattered across

comments.

It's got channels for setup help, bug reports, feature requests, and general

chat. Also a heads up — Android phone support is coming soon (currently

Trinity is Android TV / Fire Stick / Google TV only), and we just added 5

more languages (German, Albanian, Polish, Russian, Portuguese — 10 total now).

If you're already using Trinity, come say hi.
