[Hand History] My most thrilling live 4 bet pot ever

Had this hand in Vegas $5/10. Effective stack was $3000, so playing really deep stacked.

  • Preflop
    • HJ was a main fish at the table. That said, I decided to mix it up and 3 bet with suited connectors. Playing deeped stacked vs. fish in position with suited connectors felt really high EV
    • I got cold 4 bet by BB (reg). Getting dicey vs. bigger size, but HJ (fish) called so I have the odds to call.
    • Even in heads up, when I 3 bet, I'm probably going to call vs cold 4b in position super deep.
  • Flop
    • It felt like one of those rigged online hand where you get it in good and your opponent has the nuts, except I have the nuts this time
    • BB has more AA, KK, QQ etc but I have more nut advantange becuase I'm occasionally defending 56, 78, 77, 88 that I decided to 3bet and call 4bet whereas BB is probably not cold 4betting with suited connectors or 77 88.
      • Even if BB has AA, KK, opp wouldn't be too thrilled to bet into 2 other people with $2,600 behind. In general you don't want to have just a pair when pots are 300bb+
    • Opp checks, HJ check, I bet 25% pot so that I get calls from virtually anyhting - higher pocket pairs, suited broadways with backdoors. Initial 4better folds and HJ calls.
      • At this point HJ has a lot of pocket pairs, like 77-QQ
  • Turn
    • Th doesn't change much. If HJ has a set, he would considered raising flop. If he has a set or turned set (TT), i get his stack.
    • With heart darws getting in I size up a little bit for proetction and to set up river shove
    • I could've jammed too, but thought it felt too strong and I miss value from weaker holdings given he didn't raise
  • River
    • 8h. Again, if he had a set, I think he would've for sure raised on the flop or turn, so I'm not worried about full houses. If he boated up, congrats
    • I also doubt there's any flushes. If anything it's going to be QJhh only and if he has that, good for him as well.
    • I jam, HJ tanked for ab it and folded
  • BB had>!heart broadway!< and lamented about the situation. HJ had >!ATcc!<

Overall, super fund hand. Let me know your thoughts as well!

So.. play suited connectors and fold Aces and Kings

Looking at the profits by holecard from hands I tracked… AA and KK are overrated lol

15550st AD wait or Grey?

Hey all,

I'm interested in 15550st (blue dial) given I have a tiny wrist. I heard ROs are obviously really hard to get as a first allocation, but is there a higher chance with this model b/c it's on a smaller size?

I'm okay waiting a couple of years if I can get it at retail price. I've looked at gray and the prices are around 55k-60k from reputable dealers, not sure if I want to pay that.

[$5/10] Brutal brutal river in $6k pot at the Wynn

It's about 2:30 am at the Wynn. I have a flight to catch in 2 hours, and this big hand happened.

It's also my last day of the Vegas trip, and I'm stuck around $4k. So, I'm really hoping to win this.

This was vs. a recreational player (UTG+1)? I saw him call light throughout the night (i.e., defending A5o vs 3b in BTN vs SB, calling OB OB with flush and losing to a boat etc)

Here's my analysis of the hand:

  • Preflop
    • V opens to $30 and there was another call by a reg. QJs could flat, but I think it can mix. I also haven't been able to catch a hand, so this hand looked beautiful. I 3bet, V calls and the other reg calls
  • Flop
    • Amazing flop with so much equity for me but my strategy is to range check OOP. I don't wanna play a big pot OOP 300bb deep.
    • My plan was to check-raise big and barrell any turn basically.
  • Turn
    • I make the nuts. My hand obviously wants to bet, but my range probably doesn't want to (if I have AA, how thrilled am i to bet into 2 people)? I elect to check, going to x/r
    • Villain stabs really light, and I decided to x/r. I could've gone bigger but wanted to keep weaker hands in like 78, JT, FD, SD etc..
  • River
    • River is paired, but I didn't think he would have that many FH combos. If he had TT, 88, 33 he would've bet pure on the flop. He also would probably bet bigger on the turn with sets to deny equity and given how wet the board is and how deep we are.
    • Even two pair like T8 would've bet the flop, so I really didn't think I was losing to anything except 89. And if he has 89 he can have all my money.
    • Because he was a station and I also wanted to recoup my losses I 1.5x jam on the river and get absolutely SNAPPED which sucked ass. I can still visibly recall this scene which is disgusting
    • You could argue that if you bet that big, you aren't gonna get called by worse which is true, but I think I would've called the raise anyway

Nasty cooler and it really stung but what can you do... Curious to hear you guys thoughts on the hand.

Is there a community for post grads?

Just wondering if there's a place for post-grads to exchange information and maintain contact outside of r/MBA

What I really liked about business school while I attended was it was flush with information, things to do and ways to connect with others. It was really a matter of choosing what not to do.

But upon graduation, I feel like almost all the resources are gone. The only way to connect with others is through WhatsApp, which at this point is dead.

Schools always advertise you are going to have a life long connection, so pay us $200k but it feels like everything disappears upon graduation outside a few friends you keep in touch with.

I'm kinda curious to hear if there's a demand for a service that allows post grads to stay connected? Maybe like a forum and chatroom for grads where they can stay in touch with alumni.

Any thoughts?

Feeling really lost after 5 years post MBA... not sure what to do?

Just wanted to share a bit about my background, some thoughts in my head, and get your take.

I graduated from business school five years ago. I spent ~2 years doing IB but I didn't like it. I hated that every day we're cranking out 100-page decks that have literally 0 use. It all felt like busy work for nothing. Money was decent, but I didn't know what I was solving for.

So decided to try an operator role. Joined a tech company, did ~3 years of FP&A. The first 2 years were a good change of pace/scneery and I learned a few things.

But this year I'm going through a phase similar to banking, where I feel like we're churning for churning's sake. Cranking on a 100+ page board deck that has absolutely no clarity drives me nuts.

Another thing that frustrates me is that Tech is so Product / Engineering driven, so Finance doesn't really have any say in the business. CFO is only managing costs, and I don't want to do that for the rest of my life. At this point, I've developed a weird disdain for Finance. I don't know what Finance really solves.

As you can tell, I'm feeling quite jaded now, unhappy at work and that manifests with making more small mistakes than before because I just can't care. I feel like my growth stalled and perhaps is detracting to some degree?

There are two paths I'm considering from here:

  1. Joining a startup in the finance function, but I'm not sure if that will solve the problems I'm facing.
  2. CoastFire? I'm in my early 30s, have ~$1.5M net worth, but not sure if that's enough. And frankly, I'm scared to quit the workforce this early on after taking on 200k in debt for the degree! (oh sunk cost)

I thought it would be all roses after the MBA, but the existential crisis continues.

For those who have graduated and have taken a similar path, what would you do if you were in my shoes?

Is it possible to raise vc with a consumer app with some traction? [i will not promote]

I built a movie ranking app with AI, kind of a mixture between Letterboxd and Beli. I've been running it for about a year and overall seeing decent usage and users seem to be enjoying the product.

It's got some traction around 60 DAU, 1k MAU but it's not growing because I'm not as aggressive with marketing as I should be. It has decent retention with ~30 % D7 and ~15% D28.

Would it be possible to raise pre-seed (<$1M) with VC at all? I plan to use proceeds to hire a founding engineer and go full-time.

I want to grow organically but I'm not a good at social media. I want somebody who's better than me that can grow the page with content (movie related). How can I find a marketer?

Hey all! I really want to make these two screens (part of the review flow for a movie app) stand out and make users curious/engaged.

I created these, but I don't like the color, where it shows up on the screen, presentation format, basically everything about these screens.

I've experimented with different formats and presentation options (modal vs pagesheet vs bottomsheet etc) but I can't seem to get it right.

Can I get some pointers on how to beautify these?

I'm currently building a free consumer app for ranking movies.

Users overall have been passionate about the app. They are vocal about feedback and want to see the app succeed. There are power users who have ranked a few thousand titles, which is crazy to me...

Stat-wise, this is where I'm at today:

  • 60 DAU / 300 WAU / 800 MAU
  • 59% D7 retention / 54% D14 / 24% D28
  • Get ~10 organic installs a day

These stats have been consistent over the past few months. Again, not the most stellar stats, but I think it gives me enough to play with. I feel like if I can unlock marketing, this app can grow to something bigger.

Monetization-wise, this is a free app, and I don't intend to change it. I haven't been a huge fan of subscirption based conusmer app, and believe if there's enough traffic, ad can generate enough.

My dream would be to reach 10k MAU organically, but I'm unsure how I can grow from there.

Has anybody scaled a free consumer app? What were some effective strategies that could be applicable for my case?
