Saying goodbye to 22 year old Deborah today

She stopped eating at all yesterday and we made the call to the vet. He is coming to our house this afternoon to help us say goodbye. We are eternally grateful to Dr. N because home euthanasia isn't really a service they offer but he'll have done it three times for us now.

Deborah is survived by her two brothers Monty Don (6) and Eggsy (4). She was preceded in death by Stinky (2000-2018), Simon (2001-2020) and Karl (2006-2023).

Deborah has been a loving companion for over twenty two years. She was my lifeline during a bad mental health period where I was ready to leave the world. Any time I cried she'd come running from across the house and throw herself into my lap purring and shoving herself to my chest. In her golden years she retired from that to move on to being a lap cat for her daddy. She got one last lap sit in last night.

Deborah is ready. I am not.

I love you baby girl. My old lady. It's not goodbye, it's see you later.

Update to: tooth chipped after dental school cleaning!

First I wanna thank everyone who assured me it wasn't a big deal. You were right! Very fixable! I had three of my fillings fixed today and I go back to get the final one redone in June. ❤️ The new dentist I have is great and I love the hygienists there so far. He said there was no decay and that it was a badly done filling. His exact words were "it's not my place to say but they only last for as long as well as they're done. But I can't say anything about that." Which...shady. I love it honestly. It was refreshing! My last dental experiences were not so great (the last place said I had a ton of bad cavities but they're not on any new x-rays from the dental school and now this new place and they didn't properly numb me when I did get a few fillings done) but this new place I'm going has really put me at ease and I'll definitely be keeping up on my cleanings every 6 months if not sooner! It's a no shame place and I feel very welcome there.

I get really bad dental tartar in the front two teeth on the bottom so if anyone has any tips to keep that clean besides brushing twice a day for a minute on top and on bottom I'm all ears. It's my problem area and I really should honestly probably schedule for sooner than six months!

TW: hair loss Got diagnosed with ✨androgenetic alopecia✨ today

At least she said that's what matches the closest. Could still be alopecia areata but I don't have bald spots. No biopsy done because she was hesitant to do it when I don't have any scarring on my scalp and the skin looks pretty okay.

She gave me medication which yay! But there's potential side effects. Boo. Including more hair on my face which I already have due to PCOS (or newly called PMOS). Blegh. Guess we'll just have to have waxing Wednesday won't we?

I feel...very conflicted. Yay there's a name for it. Boo I have it. Yay I was listened to. Boo I'm losing my hair. Yay there's no scarring and it could come back! Boo it'll take 6 months to see a difference and in the meantime I could lose double the amount because of how the medication works.

Half tempted to just ✨shave✨.

I caught Deborah (22) letting the baby Eggsy (4) groom her

For context this is something Deborah would NEVER let our dearly departed Simon do to her. They grew up together - he was only a few years older than her. When she was little Simon would try to groom her and Deborah would throw a fit! She said absolutely not buster. She'd give him baps and run off. So imagine my surprise when yesterday I caught Eggsy, the baby of the family, grooming her in her little spot in the office. Then he laid down with her 😭

Tooth chipped/filling flew out after getting teeth cleaned at a dental school

So I was flossing after my cleaning, I felt a catch, I worked it free and out came a chunk of either tooth or filling. I'm leaning towards filling as there's no pain and I think on my dental x-rays this was a tooth with a filling in it.

Needless to say I am. Freaking. Out.

It took a lot of courage and pumping myself up to even go get my teeth cleaned and this happens.

I have one option for a dentist but I don't know how quickly I can get in or what to tell them on the phone. Or if I'm just going to lose this tooth entirely which is my worst nightmare.

Help please!!!

This is Miss ma'am getting her after poke churu.

I honestly thought we were going to have to give up on fluids. The day my mom left for vacation Deborah did not want to cooperate at all for her fluids. Maybe we didn't get the bag warmed up enough. Maybe I did a bad poke. We couldn't figure it out.

While she's gone my dad, who usually runs from the hard stuff because it distresses him, amazingly offered to hold her for fluids. The first day I felt so bad because we got maybe 25mL in her which is hardly worth a poke and my dad was struggling with holding her. So I decided Saturday we just wouldn't do it. We'd give her a day off and go from there. If this was the end of her fluids journey so be it.

On Sunday I warmed the bag extra long while flipping it every so often. I personally picked Deborah up to show him how to properly hold her and let her drape over his arm (she likes her front legs out of the towel because she likes to tap me with her left leg) while still supporting her hind end just enough that she feels safe but can't kick off. I was careful to poke just below her shoulder blades exactly in the center.

We got over 100mL in her. I could tell dad was not loving doing it (he looked away the entire time) but I am so proud of him for being brave and I'm also proud of Deb for taking a rest day and deciding yeah I can go back to fluids thanks for giving me a break. She had her after poke churu and climbed right back in my dad's lap like "don't worry it's not you. It's that mean lady that pokes me I know it's not *your* fault." Lol. I know she feels so much better when she gets her fluids so I'm glad she's still letting us.

I've had her since I was 9 years old and she was 6 months old. This year we'll be 22 and 31 😭. She's nearing the end - the vet said she probably wouldn't see the end of summer. We're closely monitoring her kidney levels and creatinine and we have a strict cut off point where we say enough is enough. But right now she's happy, she's got good quality of life, she still enjoys all her treats, her air fryer baked chicken breast and her daddy's lap. Deborah is currently taking a nap in her heated bed and I'm just staring at her soaking it all in. We made it to her birthday. Anything after this is just bonus time.

This morning she got her churu in the shape of 22....and then a second one to get her MiraLAX lol. She said "I can put up with the hat - if you set that churu in front of me post haste." I love my ancient lady so much.
