Why does Cinema 4D feel so unsmooth on a 144Hz monitor?

Hey everyone,

I’m having an issue with the viewport in Cinema 4D. I’m using a 144Hz monitor, but the viewport doesn’t feel anywhere near as fluid as I’d expect. It feels noticeably less smooth when orbiting, panning, and navigating around the scene.

I’m wondering if this is something specific to Cinema 4D, or if there’s a setting I might be missing.

Has anyone else experienced this with a high-refresh-rate monitor?

  • Does Cinema 4D properly utilize 144Hz for viewport navigation?
  • Are there any viewport, GPU, or Windows settings that need to be changed?
  • Could V-Sync, G-Sync/FreeSync, or the monitor settings be affecting it?
  • Is there anything I can do to make the viewport feel genuinely smooth?

Any advice or settings you recommend would be appreciated!

Why does X-Ray mode create these strange artifacts in 3ds Max?

Hi everyone,

I’m modelling a bottle with an inner shell/mould. When I enable X-Ray or See-Through mode, strange blocky artifacts appear across the surface, as shown in the screenshot.

The model looks normal when X-Ray is turned off. This mainly happens when there are polygons inside other polygons, such as the inner and outer walls of a perfume or wine bottle.

Why is this happening? Is it caused by transparency sorting in the 3ds Max viewport, or could there be an issue with my geometry? Is this a known 3ds Max bug or limitation?

How is the overall Redshift experience in Maya?

I've been wondering what the experience is like using Redshift with Maya.

For those of you who use it regularly, how does it compare to Cinema 4D + Redshift? Is the integration solid, and is it a good overall experience for product visualization?

I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially if you've used both Maya and Cinema 4D with Redshift.

Why doesn’t 3ds Max have a built-in tool like Maya’s Circularize?

I’m new to 3ds Max and I’m trying to find a reliable equivalent to Maya’s Circularize tool.

I’ve tried GeoPoly and Spherify, but they don’t seem to work well for creating clean, evenly spaced circular geometry. After some research, I found a script called Regularize, but many older threads say it doesn’t work properly in 3ds Max 2025 or 2026.

How are current Max users handling this? Is there a reliable built-in workflow, updated script, or modifier-based solution that gives results similar to Maya’s Circularize?

Any advice would be appreciated.

What modeling scripts or plugins do you use in 3ds Max?

Hey everyone,

What modeling scripts or plugins do you use regularly in 3ds Max? I'm mainly interested in hard-surface modeling, so I'd love to hear your must-have recommendations, whether they're free or paid.

Hey guys, is 3ds Max worth learning today purely for modeling?

I'm currently a Modo user looking to switch software since Modo has essentially been deprecated.

I've been considering 3ds Max, but I'm a bit concerned about its future as well. It seems to receive fewer major updates compared to other DCCs, and I'm worried it could eventually end up in a similar situation. I could be completely wrong, though.

I've also tried modeling in Blender, but I find that I much prefer workflows that rely on marking menus and keyboard-driven tools. They just feel more comfortable and efficient to me.

Would you recommend investing time into 3ds Max for hard-surface modeling today, or would you suggest a different option? I'd really appreciate your advice.

May I ask how ZBrush is for hard-surface modeling?

Could you please elaborate on the advantages and disadvantages of using ZBrush for hard-surface (Product design, Mechs, Vehicles) work? Any valuable advice would really help me decide whether it’s worth studying or not.

Hey guys, I could really use some advice. Between Blender, Cinema 4D, and Maya which one do you think is best for modeling, especially hard surface?

I mainly work in product visualization, and I want to seriously improve my modeling skills. I’ve used all three programs to some extent, but I spend most of my time in Cinema 4D. Because of that, I’m a bit confused whether I should fully commit to doing all my modeling in C4D or consider switching.

Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences.
