Looking for a beautiful note-taking app

Hey all, I’ve been a long time user of the ‘Bear’ note taking app. It’s been great, but I feel like I want to try and pull back on some of my monthly and annual subscriptions.

Does anyone know if there are any good, well designed note taking apps out there, which cover the following:

- Nicely designed, beautiful to look at
- Markdown files
- Cross Platform
- Free or one-off payment (regardless of cost)
- Ideally some kind of sync or backup.

Any thoughts?

List customization

I wonder if it’s possible to customize the design of the ‘list’ display mode? One of the things I like about PowerAmp, is that it has a number of different list styles, ranging from the size of the thumbnails, to the padding of each album detail.

For me, the ‘List’ display mode of a little small and all the albums are a little close together. I’d love to be able to open out the albums a little.

Am I missing some controls somewhere?

Thanks in advance

Home Page Banners

Hey all,

I know that there is now a website dedicated to showing off, and downloading, Home Page, Now Playing, colour themes, etc for Symfonium, but what I've not seen is a repository of Home Page banners.

Do these exist anywhere? Are anyone using them?

I'd love to see yours if you're using them. Also, are there any particular guidelines if you want to create your own?

Many thanks.

Background blur gradients

I wondered if it’s possible to create a dark gradient at the top and bottom of the background? I like the way Tidal does this, as it masks more of the background behind the controls.

Is this possible?

Also, is there any way to control the amount of drop shadow behind the album art? Currently I think it’s a tad too strong, and I’d like to pull it back a bit?

Many thanks

Thanks

Hey Tolriq, I just wanted to say thanks for such a good app. Not sure if it’s just you or a team working on it, but this thing is a powerhouse, and making listening my music SO enjoyable.

When I came over to Android with my DAP, everyone suggested I use PowerAmp, which I did. And I still have it installed. But Symfonium just does everything I need and then some.

Also, as a product designer, how the app looks and functions means a lot to me. Care and attention has been taken on this, and it shows.

Thanks mate!

(I’m showcasing the team given the limited number of flairs)

Good morning all. I’m looking for a flawless way of syncing my music from my Mac to my Android-based DAP.

I was going to look at Syncthing, but I read a few places that the Syncthing Android fork is kinda ok, but doesn’t work all the time, but also that it does not include Selective Sync in its feature set.

After research I tried Resilio Sync, but this is incredibly slow, and actually ended up filling my DAPs internal HDD, despite the fact that I instructed it to use my removable MicroSD card.

So, I’m on the hunt again for a sync solution that means i don’t need to keep removing my SD card every time I want to add new music.

Any thoughts?

You see, the problem with Symfonium is that it’s SO detailed you can loser down a tweaking rabbit hole so quickly. But this is the Now Playing screen I can live with for years.

The DX180 doesn’t have the tallest screen, so you have to make comprises.

This is very lovely to me.

More onto the Home Page and I’m done.

Hey all, so I'm wanting to really get my fingers dirty with sorting out the meta data. I'm plugging my music into Symfonium on my DAP, and it makes sense to start sorting out the metadata.

I'm using MP3tag, which grabs the metadata from MusicBrainz but, even then, genre (for example) is a little all over the place.

I want to get a workflow clear in my head before I understand the task. So...

  • Is MP3tag the best app to use?
  • Is MusicBrainz the best source? If not, what would be a good source to look at?
  • What is the best way to simplify genre, particularly given you have sub-genres thrown into the mix.
  • Any other wisdom would help!

Thanks in advance.

Hey all, Bonobo and Submotion Orchestra both have albums with the same name, ‘Fragments’. For some reason, Symfonium has bundled them into the same album, even though the details show they are in their individual folders. PowerAmp has not done this, so I’m wondering how I can split these two albums back out again?

I’m fairly new to the world of DAPs, but after buying my iBasso DX180 I’m in the rabbit hole deep.

Many people suggested I give PowerAmp a go, which I have, and love it. Fairly easy to set up, to import the library, set the eq and get going.

But a noticed a couple of other peeler mentioning Symfonium. Always curious about what I might be missing, I downloaded it to test. After initially feeling a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of customization available I think I really enjoy it also. In particular I like the home page set up, as it closely resembles what I used to enjoy about PlexAmp.

Is it really a case of apples vs oranges? Are they more or less the same, but slightly different in their design, or is there more to one than the other?

What do YOU use, and why?

So, I’ve just discovered Symfonium after using PowerAmp for a while. Dang it, this is about as close as I’m going to get to my previously beloved PlexAmp.

One thing I don’t know is how I can clear the now playing ‘bar’ when I stop an album playing. If I clear the queue, then this removes it but, apart from that, I can’t find how to do that.

Started this today, and it’s a cracking read already. Also, the Margins app is a delight to use, if you’re not already using it.

Hey all, I have a bit of a strange request.

Recently, I started using Resilio sync to keep my albums up to date between my Mac and my DAP. The initial upload means that every album has an 'added' date of the day I uploaded them. However, I'd like to find a way of changing the date that the albums were uploaded to reflect the date that I bought them. This makes more sense to me. I would normally buy an album, and then add it to my library.

This is a good way of me seeing the albums in a logical way.

Does anyone know if it's possible to somehow change the date that the albums were added to the library?

I’m curious how many people here are using the app ‘Margins’, which is a very beautiful book tracker app. I love it, having just discovered it.

But I’m confused about the social side of it. It would appear that you can follow people who you have added, or who have added you. But this seems very localized without any kind of discovery feature.

Do I understand it correctly?

Outside of recommending the app to others, and them using the app, I’m unsure how you would find others users.

Thoughts?

Hey all,

I have one day in Reykjavik in June. It seems there are tons of things to do. If I can only do one major thing, what should it be?
