Does IKEA Home app support graphical plotting for TIMMERFLOTTE sensors?

This is a feature I would like to have (see how the temperature evolves in the sensors over time). I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what does the IKEA Home app supports in this case?

How can we invest without giving up democratic control over our money?

I don’t want this post to sound too political, but I’ve been thinking a lot about the implications of investing in broad global ETFs. For most of my adult life, I’ve invested in all-world ETFs like VWCE, mostly through US-owned asset managers such as Vanguard, Invesco, and others. For a long time, I saw this as a simple and rational way to invest: low-cost, diversified, passive, and accessible. It's also what... I heard was the "wisest" way to do it. But over the last few months, especially after seeing the wave of layoffs in tech, I’ve started thinking more seriously about what this actually means.

When I buy an ETF like VWCE, I’m effectively asking Vanguard to buy shares in thousands of companies on my behalf. The economic benefits of those shares, such as price appreciation and dividends, are reflected in the ETF price. So financially, I still participate in the market. However, the ownership rights, especially the voting rights attached to those shares, are not exercised by me directly. They are exercised by the asset manager.

And this is where I started feeling uncomfortable.

A significant share of many public companies, including European tech companies, is now owned by a relatively small group of large asset managers. As more of the general public invests through ETFs, the voting power that would otherwise be distributed among millions of individual investors becomes increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few institutions.

This gives asset managers significant influence over corporate decisions of European companies! They can vote on board members, executive pay, shareholder proposals, and broader governance questions. Indirectly, this can also influence company strategy, including decisions around cost-cutting and layoffs, especially when markets reward those decisions.

Of course, this is not just about one company or one asset manager. It is a broader structural issue. Many of us are encouraged to invest this way because it is cheap, efficient, and often genuinely beneficial for building long-term wealth. Pension funds are also deeply tied to this system. So it is not obvious what the alternative should be.

However: can a society be truly democratic if ordinary people have very little say over how the capital they invest shapes the economy?

One quick alternative I can think of is to use a European asset manager, for example by buying an ETF like WEBN instead of VWCE. But that does not fully solve the issue, because the voting rights are still delegated to a relatively small group of people. Actively managed funds have a similar problem.

So I’m wondering: what alternatives exist for people who want to invest long term, but also want more democratic control over how their money influences society?

Are there realistic alternatives where investors can keep more control over voting rights and that could make investing more democratic?

Curious to hear what others think about this. 🤷‍♂️

[NL] Anyone else hate Revolut’s implementation of iDeal/Wero?

I hate how everytime I pay with iDeal I don’t get:
- A proper sanitized name on of the merchant most of the times
- An image of the merchant
- The correct category for the merchant (it’s ALWAYS marked as transfer).

Also I always get a weird transaction description (in which in this case I just blurred), which looks unappealing.

My other pet peeve is that Revolut.me links also don’t accept iDeal/Wero, so I am forced to use Tikkie (which again, breaks the splitting analytics and I need to reconciliate manually in my end).

Does Revolut actively want to punish customers from using iDeal vs PayPal/Apple Pay/etc?

Dermasence Seborra Skin clarifying body lotion vs Fluff Body Lotion: any good for back acne?

The dermasence product has a 10% glycolic acid concentration and the Fluff one has an undisclosed salicylic acid concentration (max 0.5% probably).

Has anyone experience with any of these products for as a leave-on solution for back acne? Since most body products with salicylic acid are limited to 0.5% for body use (I know there's a couple of passable 2% salicylic acid products but they're always in a toner format and leave a very sticky residue on the skin, therefore I would rather have a cream).

My research indicates that 10% glycolic acid would be much more effective than 0.5% salicylic acid (even if applied 2x per day), but I'm wondering if anyone had experience with any of these leave-on products, or any others.

P.S. - I'm aiming to conjugate this with the new L'oreal 2% salicylic acid body wash.

Update: Sunscreen staining test after wash

Following my last post on this, I've decided to do an intense wash with a stain remover and see what the results were.
Some of the things I did:

  • Using the same detergent as before, plus one scoop of oxygen bleach
  • Used this stain remover (visible in the picture)
  • Washed it at 40 degrees with the options Bubble Soak and Intense Wash turned on, on the Cotton program (total time: 4h30).

The results:

  • The moisturizer washed completely
  • Everything else just faded slightly but still very much visible. None of the stains was completely removed.
  • The Skin Aqua sunscreens did the best.
  • On a second, I would say the Eucerin Kids and the Garnier body sunscreen.
  • Everything else was more or less similar. I would expect the Geek and Gorgeous and the Beauty of Joseon sunscreens to have faded more than they did.

Happy to take suggestions on what to do next!

Another photo of the stains after the wash with different lighting here.

Sunscreen staining test

All the sunscreens I've tested.

Following my last post, I've decided to go ahead with my little experiment and text a bunch of sunscreens in terms of how much they would stain a white 100% cotton tshirt 😅.

These are the sunscreens I've put up to the test. I also decided to include an emollient heavy moisturizer (Geek and Gorgeous Happier Barrier) to see if it would also wash off (to test the hypothesis that maybe it's the lipids in the formula that cling to the fabric).

TLDR: Sadly, none of them washed out completely in the settings I've selected. The one that did better were the Skin Aqua ones.

Here's the list of products, UV filters and the number of the sample in the shirt:

Product UV filters
Geek and Gorgeous Happier Barrier -
Eucerin Oil Control SPF 50+ Gel-Creme Avobenzone, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb S, Uvinul A Plus, Ensulizole
P20 Sensitive Face SPF 50+ Uvinul A Plus, Tinosorb S, TriAsorB, Uvinul T 150
Garnier Sensitive Expert+ SPF 50+ Octisalate, Uvinul T 150, Avobenzone, Tinosorb S, Mexoryl XL
Biodermal Sun Milk Kids SPF 50+ Tinosorb M, Octisalate, Uvinul A Plus, Tinosorb S, Uvinul T 150
Hema Sun Milk Sensitive SPF 50+ Uvinul A Plus, Octisalate, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb S, Ensulizole
Skin Aqua Super Moisture Barrier UV Essence SPF 50+ Octinoxate, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb S, Tinosorb M, Uvinul A Plus
Skin Aqua Super Moisture UV Essence SPF 50+ Octinoxate, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb S, Tinosorb M, Uvinul A Plus
Geek and Gorgeous Zero Feel SPF 50 Uvinul A Plus, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb S, Ensulizole
Beauty of Joseon Rice + Probiotics SPF50+ Uvinul A Plus, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb M, Uvasorb HEB
Eucerin Sensitive Protect Kids Dry Touch (with their Anti-Stain After Wash technology) Avobenzone, Tinosorb S, Uvinul T 150, Uvinul A Plus, Ensulizole, Uvasorb HEB

Methodology

I've coated the bottom of the fabric with aluminum foil to prevent the sunscreen from migrating to the other side (and also so that the stain can stay pretty soaked).

https://preview.redd.it/fjlmlaggup1h1.jpg?width=1118&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c28070df6a775d9d7cb7950443b49caf5773973

I used precisely 1/32 tbsp of sunscreen for each sample and I've sampled each sunscreen twice. Then I left them for 48h and washed it. Note: I sampled the Eucerin Kids sunscreen the next day, but I then repeated the sample for other 2 sunscreens.

  • In the wash I've selected the Cotton program for 1h12min at 40 degrees with 2 rinses.
  • I've used no stain removers nor oxygen bleach and just a All-in 1 capsule for white clothes (like this one).
  • I've added other 4 white tshirts to balance the load.

Here's the results:

Before the wash

After the wash

Product Sample Number
Geek and Gorgeous Happier Barrier 1, 2
Eucerin Oil Control SPF 50+ Gel-Creme 3, 4
P20 Sensitive Face SPF 50+ 5, 6
Garnier Sensitive Expert+ SPF 50+ 7, 8, 24
Biodermal Sun Milk Kids SPF 50+ 9, 10
Hema Sun Milk Sensitive SPF 50+ 11, 12
Skin Aqua Super Moisture Barrier UV Essence SPF 50+ 13, 14, 23
Skin Aqua Super Moisture UV Essence SPF 50+ 15, 16
Geek and Gorgeous Zero Feel SPF 50 17, 18
Beauty of Joseon Rice + Probiotics SPF50+ 19, 20
Eucerin Sensitive Protect Kids Dry Touch (with their Anti-Stain After Wash technology) 21, 22

Stains before wash (close up)

Stains after wash (close up)

Conclusion

I think they all... sort of failed? Some of the moisturizer also didn't wash completely, so I am guessing some of these stains also have to do with the oils in the sunscreen.

Based on this I would rank them the following way:

S tier: Skin Aqua sunscreens (the Skin Aqua Super Moisture UV Essence SPF 50+ seems be sliiightly better)
A tier: Garnier Sensitive Expert+ SPF 50+
B tier: Everything else seems pretty consistent.

I guess my next step would be to try a stain remover (and maybe some oxygen bleach like Vanish) and see which one gets removed more easily. Happy to take suggestions on what to try next to remove these!

Conducting a staining sunscreen experiment - what sunscreens should I test?

I’ve decided to donate an old white tshirt to science and conduct a staining test (and posterior machine washing at 40 degrees) with sunscreens to understand which ones are likely to cause stubborn stains in white cotton fabric.

I’ve attached an image with the sunscreens I currently own and I am wondering from the community: which cheap drugstore sunscreens would you like for me to test vs these ones?

P.S - I am based in the Netherlands.

I need a sunscreen for the summer that is the most lightweight/matte possible, while at the same time:
- Having high UVA protection
- Being waterproof/water resistant
- Having (mostly) new generation filters.
- Being suitable for sensitive skin.

I know such a thing does not exist in this world but I am wondering what comes closer to it from all the European-available SPFs we have.

P.S.
- I don’t do well with the Uvmune line because it irritates my skin if I use it everyday in the summer.

I've wore this sunscreen for a few days and I've tried to apply it in the eye area (including eye lids) in a quite reasonable amount. My experience is that when it migrates to the eyes it does slightly sting the eyes (way less than sunscreens with Avobenzone, like the Altruist one - if that one got in my eyes it was an awful experience).

However, I've realized this only happens IF I put it in my eye lids. If I put it close to my eye area it's fine. I suspect this is caused by the Ensulizole, as this filter is one of the most stinging UV filters since it is water-soluble and it can easily end up in your eyes).

In conclusion for me: I think this is pretty ok to be applied in the eye area, but it's still not the perfect sunscreen to be applied in the eye lid area.

Has anyone had any similar experience?
