My parents sent me their old laptops, so I decided to reinstall their original OS’s… Windows XP and 7. Which one were you most fond of?

Ive been playing some of my old PC games, which I kept around this in massive binder. currently playing through Deus Ex: Invisible War, and Command & Conquer: Generals. I also have The Sims installed, as well as Caesar II, Sim Tower, and Need For Speed III.

Windows 7 was a decent improvement over Windows XP, but for me, there was a lot more nostalgia playing around with XP more than 7.

Do you want to re-live something about those systems, or see a certain game in play? Let me know, and I’ll see if I have it, and will post screenshots or videos.

Samsung Dryer, thermal sensor blew 3 weeks after replacing heating assembly

I have a Samsung DV40J3000EW/A2 which lost heat about a month ago. Not knowing much about that assembly, I order a whole new heating assembly here: https://order.ebay.com/ord/show?orderId=24-14661-48252&purchaseOrderId=24-1466-148251#/

Now 3 weeks later no heat again. I check the element coil, it looked good, and tbh the old element coil wasn’t broken either. So, I assume this is now the second thermal fuse I have blow. The question is why?

As a test, I ran a jumper bypassing the thermal fuse, and once again I have heat, so I can confirm the thermal fuse blew.

I get my ducks cleaned twice a year, we clean the lint trap every cycle, and while the duct hose coming out of the dryer does take a S like curve into the duct, it’s not being crimped.

Do we think something is blocking the duct?

Cheap thermal fuse, that just blew?

Cheap element coil that’s getting too hot?

Something else?

If we build up on the west side of the river, does that mean parts of the river goes months without sunlight in the winter?

When I worked downtown, I noticed that in the winter, the Hillsborough River and much of Curtis Hixon Park was void of sunlight the first half of the day. It was my thinking at the time, that if we also built up on the west side of the river, then it would not get the afternoon sun either. It might get a bit, right at mid-day, before being blocked again by west side high rises.

It also makes me think Plant Park looses sunlight in the winter as well, as this high rise will block the mid-day sun.

Thoughts?

I rode my bike across the Howard Franklin bridge, so you don’t have to.

I have knocked this off my bucket list and will never do it again. But, If you still want to go here is what I recommend:

  1. Wear sunscreen
  2. bring at least two bottles of water
  3. Wear ear plugs
  4. Don’t skip the last rest area on the bridge, if you’re starting in Tampa. It’s 5-6 miles round trip, from that rest area to the 4th Ave bridge and back.
  5. Don’t go into this hungry or dehydrated.
  6. There is a gravel parking lot on Reo St right next to the entrance, otherwise park in Cypress Point, take the trail through the frisbee golf course take the sidewalk to Reo St, or cut through the grass and to the sidewalk that ends half way up Reo St.

Pros:

  1. Great views of the water. I saw dolphins almost immediately on the Tampa side.
  2. You can go really fast, especially going downhill with the wind to your back. I got up to 30mph.
  3. It’s faster than the Courtney Campbell, and safer than the Gandy bridge if you don’t have a car. It’s probably more ideal for a scooter or electric bike.

Cons:

  1. It’s either loud, very loud, very very loud, or very very very loud. The bridge span is louder than the solid ground. Going with the flow of traffic is very very loud, but going against it is torture.
  2. It’s hot, although not as hot as you would expect, mainly because of the breeze.
  3. It smells like exhaust and fresh asphalt.
  4. There are metal plates every 100ft or so, make sure you have good tires.
  5. The grooved pavement caused my bike to rattle.
  6. There is maybe only an 20% in reduction in sound level at the rest areas.
  7. If you crash or pass out, no one is coming to save you for a while.
  8. If you drop something in the water, it now belongs to the bay.
  9. No shade other than the rest areas.

Audio CD vs Apple Music Lossless (via CarPlay) - Noticeable Difference in Quality

2020 Ascent here. I decided to burn a few CDs of some independent artists I frequently listen to. This is an actual audio CD based on the .WAV files I purchased from their band camp profile. I was surprised to hear a noticeable improvement in quality coming from the CD vs the same song on Apple Music, even set to max quality (Lossless). The music was fuller, the bass deeper, greater space separation. Vocals were much more distinctly coming from the dash speakers where as bass guitar was coming from the door speakers. This is all lacking on Apple Music, so wanted to see if anyone has noticed the same thing, or have any theories?
