Wise embroidery folk, my patchwork journal is coming along

I did end up using only cross stitches as I'd already made the holes & they weren't very even. I want to put more beads. But it's progressing 。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆

Remove the charms: Yayy or nayy?

I recently made a patchwork journal. I'm still in the process of adding some stitches & sprucing it up. But the base is done. I added these charms & it's looking extremely cutesy which isn't the vibe I'm going for. Should I remove them? Replace them with glass beads? Leave it plain?

When making a patchwork journal, should I see a larger piece to cover the back?

Visually, I don't care. But does it protect it? Make it more durable?

Wise embroidery folk, what are cool ways I can interlace a cross stitch? Also, should I stitch another piece of cloth on to the back? Does it protect it?

Thank you for all your suggestions & resources from last time. I went through them all, found some I really loved, then realised I should've asked before I started my patchwork journal. Because I have to hammer in the holes before stitching & I've already done that. (And I didn't do it particularly well. This is my first time doing it). I also borrowed the tools, & no longer have access to them to make new holes. That'll teach me not to rush through stuff in the future. But you've also given me some beautiful new embroidered journal ideas.

I wanted to stitch the back cover which mostly has darker colours like...majorly brown, with some pale coloured thread. Then interlace it with the brighter colours I used for the flap & cover. I was wondering how one does that with cross stitches. I'm also incorporating beads. Any different ideas are welcome.

Wise Embroidery folk! I come seeking cool stitch ideas for my patchwork journal. Help please ❀

I'm currently making a patchwork journal. It's taking ages & ages but I love it. I'm using different color thread to stitch together different patches & so far, I think I've used cross stitches. I was wondering if there were any other stitches I could use?

I'm adding things like beads too in the stitches, though I'll do that at the end.

I'm making a patchwork journal, & was wondering if anyone had ideas to add colour to the back, like embroidery, & how to go about it?

It's a trifold journal. The long blue strip with dots is the spine & next to it on the left is the back of the book. I wanted to make a very bright coloured patchwork journal, but didn't have a lot of bright coloured leather. So I mixed in some unusual earthy colours & patterns I found, especially at the back. I'm going to stitch the pieces together with bright coloured thread like blue & pink, but was wondering if there was something I could embroider on the back to give it more colour? Star pattern? Bug flying? Leaves? Moon? Something simple. Other ideas are welcome too.

I bought a mystery box of scrap leather to make a patchwork journal. Is there any way to discern what type of leather it is? Especially pick out the full grain & veg tan from the rest?

The place I bought it from says:

"You can expect to receive an assorted collection of leathers & colours in various thicknesses, usually 0.5 mm - 3 mm and a mix of chrome tanned, veg tan, nubuck, suede, cow Nappa, etc. The bag may contain some large scraps, between a square foot or two, to some medium and smaller scraps under a square foot."

Am I stuffing this too much? Is it bad for my journal in the long run?

I managed to put a tiny watercolor palette & brush pen inside.

1-1.5 month patina on my leather journal.

The last picture is it when it was 1 week old.

On a side note: Are the wrinkles on the left in the first picture a sign I need to condition it?

I've seen leather wallets get shiny with age, but does that happen to leather journals too?

I feel like the leather journals pati na & get scuffed & darken in a very cool way, but I've never seen a old shiny one.

I made my first leather refillable journal :D

My first。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆

The green insert is something I bought. It's size A6. I can fit 4 books into it. Maybe 5 without the insert. And another thinner one if I wanted, but I think I'll leave it at 3 when I use it. The top of the spine seems to be getting pulled forward a bit.

The green patch is supposed to be a lotus leaf. I'm going to paint it.

I was wondering if it would lose the lovely red color as it ages? Are there any bright colours that keep their hue as they patina.

The green patch at the front is supposed to be a lotus leaf. I may paint it. It's fine to write in, but does get a bit uncomfy with all the books inside when I try to draw. I'm already taking it everywhere, & thinking of replacing one of the books with a cheaper ruled one for my office. Contemplating making a Chinese knot keychain to add too.

I really really love the reddish tones, but I was watching videos on how leather patinas & I'm worried about it turning completely brown ):

On one hand I like the thought of my perpetual companion book aging & changing with me. On the other hand, pretty red ;-;

It currently has 4 books inside, though i maybe able to fit 2 more if I removed the green insert. The green patch at the front is supposed to be a lotus leaf. I'll probably paint it & add some more charms.

It's A6 in size. The green insert is something I bought. I don't know if I cut the leather very well or if I should've made it more longer. Maybe I'm just putting in too many books. The spine at the top is getting pulled in & sometimes it's hard to close. I'll probably leave it at 3 books inside for daily use.

I really really love the color. May change the elastic to pale blue if I find one. And I saw this video in which someone embossed gold flowers on their book & I really want to do it.

Can't wait to fill it 。・:*:・゚★,。・:*:・゚☆
