GI Map test

Has anyone ever done a GI map test? Was it beneficial in your GERD journey? I’m working with a naturopath who wants to do one. I developed GERD after a stomach bug. It’s been 4 months. I’ve tried everything under the sun. But yet I still get burning a couple hours after breakfast, and shortly after lunch. Dinner seems to be fine. Yes I’ve changed my diet up to see if certain things trigger it (of course acidic foods) but I’m not even eating anything acidic for it to happen.

Looking for advice - reflux for months after stomach bug

I started getting really bad acid reflux after a stomach bug in April. It began a few days after I recovered. The night before it started, I had eaten a sandwich with some pickles, and the next morning I woke up with chest discomfort. Throughout the day, the reflux became so intense that it literally felt like I was going to breathe fire.

I tried Tums, Pepcid, Gaviscon, etc., with very little relief. My doctor eventually prescribed 40 mg of pantoprazole for two weeks, and it helped almost immediately. After the two weeks, I stopped taking it, but my symptoms came back and actually felt worse than before.

After struggling for a few weeks, my doctor told me to go back on pantoprazole. I stayed on it for about five weeks and had an endoscopy, which came back completely clear. Since I’m young and there was nothing concerning on the scope, my doctor recommended coming off the PPI.

I slowly tapered off over several weeks, and I’ve now been completely off it for two weeks. Overall, the reflux has been pretty manageable, but I’m still getting these random episodes—especially a couple of hours after breakfast, sometimes in the afternoon, and occasionally later at night. Weirdly, it often seems to improve after I eat something but sometimes it doesn’t. And it’s currently pretty bad right now. I take Pepcid and Gaviscon as needed plus a sodium alginate after eating.

I’m eating an extremely reflux-friendly diet right now—nothing acidic, no coffee, very little fat, etc.—so I genuinely don’t understand why this is still happening or why it suddenly started after the stomach bug.

I’ve seen three different naturopaths and even started anxiety medication because I wondered if anxiety was contributing to it. I take DGL before meals, recently started psyllium husk, and take probiotics every day, but I still can’t figure out what’s going on.

Has anyone experienced something similar after a stomach bug, where reflux seemed to come out of nowhere and linger for months afterward? Did it eventually settle down?

I really don’t want to be on a PPI long term if I don’t need to be, especially at 27, so I’d love to hear what helped other people or whether anyone had a similar experience.

My diet: Coconut yogurt Blueberries Strawberries Oats Peanut butter Banana Chicken, Turkey, fish Sweet potato Rice Potato Etc

Looking for advice

I’ve always been very hypermobile, and over the past year and a half I’ve dealt with a slipped disc in my back and ongoing, severe SI joint pain on my right side. Recently, my physiotherapist mentioned that I might have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, but testing and assessment options seem fairly limited in Canada.

I also experience acid reflux and noticed that it can sometimes be associated with EDS. I’m wondering whether anyone with similar symptoms has been evaluated for it or thinks it would be worth looking into further. I do struggle with health anxiety, so I’m trying not to jump to conclusions!

Looking for hope

I’ve been in a really dark place for the past couple of months. I’ve always struggled with anxiety, but after I got a stomach virus, I developed GERD and had to start taking a PPI. The whole experience affected me mentally more than I ever expected. My anxiety became overwhelming, and I started feeling depressed and unlike myself. I read so much online about PPIs, gut health, serotonin, and the connection between the gut and the brain, which only made me more afraid.

I started taking Prozac about five weeks ago, but I haven’t noticed much improvement yet. I’m supposed to be getting married next year, and I have so many wonderful things happening in my life, but I still can’t seem to stop seeing everything through such a dark lens. Whenever something slightly goes wrong, my mind immediately tells me, “This is it. This is never going to get better.”

For example, I’ve dealt with back pain on and off for the past year and a half, and now that my back is hurting again, I’m terrified that I’m going to be stuck in pain for months. Anything that feels even slightly wrong with my body sends me into a catastrophic spiral.

I’m in therapy, and I’m trying to change my mindset, but right now I feel completely stuck and exhausted. I feel terrible that my fiancé has to watch me struggle when we should be enjoying this exciting time in our lives. Deep down, I believe there is probably light on the other side of this, but I just can’t see it right now. I’m reaching out because I’m looking for some hope and reassurance that it is possible to feel like myself again. What is the point if I’m always feeling in pain or unwell with the reflux? I feel like my fiance deserves someone better than me. He is so amazing and I feel like a lazy bum who doesn’t want to get better.

Also if you have any book suggestions on something you once read when in a really dark place, that would be helpful.

Trying to taper off

Long story short my doctor put me on a PPI when he shouldn’t have. I’m now trying to get off it after a clear endoscopy. Took it for 5ish weeks. 40mg for 3 weeks, 20mg for 1 week, now 20mg every other day. I’m terrified of the acid rebound. Any suggestions or successes stories would be helpful.

Short term PPI use (5 weeks)

Hey, there’s so much stuff online about acid rebound etc. I’m currently trying to wean off pantaprazole after a clear endoscopy. I was on it for 2 weeks previously and went off it but had some acid reflux and ended up going back on it for 3 weeks (40mg), got an endoscopy which was clear so reduced it to 20mg for over a week with mild rebound. Now I’m doing every other x day. I’m terrified of the rebound. Any suggestions would be helpful or success stories. I’m a 27 f who is very healthy and eats a low acidic diet. Takes probiotics, DGL and drinks aloe juice to help. Im also taking Prozac to help with my anxiety, acupuncture and trying chiropractor as well. Please be kind.

Lexapro for LPR/acid reflux?

Anyone find success with Lexapro for healing their LPR/acid reflux or hypersensitive throat? I’ve had an endoscopy, everything is normal. I eat super healthy etc. PPIs work only minimally. Could lexapro help?

Chiropractor for acid reflux/hypersensitive throat?

I’ve been dealing with severe acid reflux and what feels like a hypersensitive throat since having a stomach flu almost three months ago. I was put on a PPI and have also tried DGL licorice, slippery elm, probiotics, acupuncture, a naturopath, and a very healthy, low-acid diet, but I’m still struggling.

I recently reduced my pantoprazole from 40 mg to 20 mg and now seem to be experiencing rebound acid. The last time I stopped after only two weeks, the rebound lasted for weeks. I’ve since had an endoscopy, and everything came back clear, so I’m feeling very confused and desperate for answers.

Most of my symptoms are in my throat rather than typical heartburn. It feels irritated, sensitive, and sometimes burning. Has anyone dealt with throat reflux, LPR, or an oversensitive throat and found anything that genuinely helped?

I’m also curious whether anyone has had success with chiropractic care for reflux or throat hypersensitivity. I feel like I’ve tried so many things and I’m becoming completely overwhelmed. Any personal experiences or suggestions would be really appreciated.

Trying to get off PPI

I got really bad acid reflux after a stomach bug in April, I went on pantaprazole for 2 weeks and then went off it. I had worse heart burn after I stopped it. I tried dealing with it naturally with DGL, L glutamine and probiotics/pepcid. Ended up going back on it for a few weeks at 40mg/day, last week I’ve been doing 20mg/day and today I have really bad reflux. I had a clear endoscopy with no issues so I really don’t want to be on it long term. It’s causing stomach issues, constipation, and anxiety. How can i successfully taper off of this? I eat super healthy too.

GERD + Lexapro

Anyone with GERD on Lexapro? Ive heard some people say it helps their GERD (if anxiety induced) and other say it makes theirs worse. I’m currently on Prozac but the gel capsules irritate my throat + cause more reflux. I’m even on a PPI. Prozac doesn’t have tablets. So I’m thinking of switching to Lexapro tablets. I have bad anxiety so I’m really desperate to find something that works and doesn’t make my reflux worse. (I eat super healthy but developed gerd after a stomach bug)

How to get off PPI after 6 weeks. Help!

Long story short, I feel like I shouldn’t have gone on PPIs in the first place.

I developed really bad acid reflux after a stomach flu, and my doctor put me on 40 mg of Pantoprazole. It helped for the first couple of weeks, but then I came off it and switched to Pepcid and Tums. Things were manageable for about a week, but then my symptoms became worse than they were originally.

I tried to handle it with Pepcid and Tums for another three weeks, but the stress and anxiety made everything feel so much worse. I started getting chest pain, so I ended up going back on Pantoprazole. I’ve now been back on it for about three weeks. Around the same time, I also started an SSRI for anxiety, which seems to have made my reflux even worse.

I ended up going to the hospital, but they weren’t very helpful and just told me to double my Pantoprazole every day. For context, I’m a 27-year-old female and weigh about 105 lbs, so I’m really hesitant about increasing the dose or staying on a PPI long term.

I really want to get off it safely. I’ve been taking probiotics, eating a very clean low-acid diet, and using things like DGL, slippery elm, etc. What’s confusing is that I didn’t have chest pain in the beginning, but I started noticing it after coming off the Pantoprazole.

I was thinking of tapering down to 20 mg daily for a week, then every other day, and then stopping — but I’m not sure if that’s the right approach. I honestly feel like I’m losing my mind because I’m still having symptoms even while taking it. Please give me hope. (I also have health anxiety so I’m in a spiral) Getting an endoscopy tomorrow.
