Hi all, have a quick question about the exhaust pipe on our furnace. Back in January our heating unit (baseboard) completely failed on us and the entire unit had to be replaced aside from the pipes going to each room/level of the house. I’ve noticed and I’m sure they’re not related but I pay way more attention to the new unit than I did the old unit, that when we get heavy rain water leaks into the indoor system from the vent. Can I just replace the “T” vent that is on this with an elbow pointing down? Obviously I’m not well versed enough to know exactly what I’m talking about but can I just purchase a new vent cap for this? Is there any type of clearance that it needs to be from the house? We have pretty weird winters, some times we get hammered with snow some times not (north eastern part of the country/capital region NY) I keep the snow clear of the area in the winter but the heat from the vent usually makes it very easy. We’re supposed to get very heavy rain the next two days so I tented an old piece of plywood over the vent to prevent water from going in. Also, it’s summer so the unit is not on since we don’t need heat. Thanks for any advice or suggestions you can give!
