Critical take on Absolute Elsewhere

Just a disclaimer that Absolute Elsewhere is one of my favorite albums, metal album of that year, all time etc etc. I love it, listen to it often, and seeing them play it live, no less than in a cemetery, was amazing.

And so with that said I want to offer a critical perspective, constructive feedback really — the drums are generally boring. I don’t think the playing is very good and at best it operates as part of the sonic composition of the piece rather than a standalone, creative instrumental. There’s value to that to be sure. But in an album that’s heavily inspired by and meant to be this progressive in addition to death metal opus, it’s disappointing in a genre that‘s defined by some of the greatest greats — Neil Peart, Danny Carey, Mike Portnoy etc. Blast beats have their place and are awesome but overused as they are here is boring. With that said there are definitely good moments — he does a great job of switching between half and cut time, the portions like at the beginning of Stargate Tablet III with the double bass that make a nice contrast to the guitars and he does that a few times, and like I said the overall contribution to the sonic composition is great. So, good elements but wish it was better overall.

Accessories for Aventon Abound LR?

I’m looking to buy an Aventon Abound LR. I’ll mainly be using it for city commuting and bringing my kid along. The website lists a bunch of accessories — are any of them actually needed or is the bike on its own okay? Any suggestions of which if any to choose?

The Dearborn bike lane is one way going north, north of Kinzie. Please don’t get mad when your fellow bikers tell you you’re going the wrong way.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Resilient + Flourish?

Just tried my first Flourish workout today and really enjoyed it. I’ve been wanting to incorporate more Pilates in general, so I’m glad they added this team. I’m planning to do Resilient for Reload and typically do 5-6 of the team’s workouts per week. How would you suggest incorporating Flourish workouts as well, including as 2 workout days? Thinking to prioritize the bodyweight/core workouts. Any suggestions?

Lunch place near Indiana border

I’ll be driving to Michigan and need a place to stop for lunch about half an hour or so outside the city, southside/near the Indiana border. I’ll be taking 90/the Skyway and don’t want to go too far off course. It’ll be two adults and a toddler. Open to cuisine but something easy with options. Any suggestions are welcome.

Limited/home equipment adjustments

I’ve been on Team Crews Control for a few months and have grown to rely on Coach Andre’s detailed instructions and suggestions for modifications with limited equipment. And I’m more used to his percentage of 1RM vs. % effort that seems common with other teams. I want to try some other teams but having some trouble adapting with limited equipment and not finding answers in the app. For example on Team Versa, Coach programs to do 6 reps at 7 out of 10 effort. If I’ve maxed out the weight I have at home, do I increase reps, slow down, etc.? Just curious what others have done to modify.

Suggest me a book - families and climate change

Are there any books where a tension or division between parents/children is related to climate change — child resentful or parent regretful for having the child even though the risk to earth and society from climate change was real?

Sort of specific request. I have a child seat on the rear rack of my bike and am looking for suggestions on how to carry other supplies especially bottles, diapers, snacks, etc. My current panniers don’t fit on the rack while the seat is attached, handlebar bags I’ve found aren’t big enough, and I’d prefer not to use a backpack so it doesn’t hit my kid on the ride. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Edit: thanks for quick replies and the great suggestions so far. I can’t figure out how to add a photo to this post but I have a Trek Verve 1 and a Topeak bike seat.
