Quality deterioration at Longos at Hurontario/ Ray Lawson

I have been their regular customer for 20+ years, mainly for produce and fruits (and dairy before I got my Costco membership). They have an excellent customer service and carry high quality vegetables and fruit - until COVID hit.

I understand that they had to increase their prices to pay reasonable wages to employees. However, the quality of product you pay for that increases price is not worth it anymore.

This is the third time I ended up buying a product that has turned bad and had fungus on it. Chilli peppers. In the past, I had the same experience with Coleslaw and spinach. Even the vegetables you buy seem good initially, but turn bad couple of days in the fridge - eggplant, beans, pepper

And with fruits, everything is imported from the US except apples and bananas and mangoes. And even the variety of fruits they used to stock have gone down. Grapes are ridiculously expensive.

I avoid No Frills because of poor quality and Metro because of high prices. Longos has been my go to store for 20+ years. This is the first time I bought vegetables at an Indian store as they were cheaper but of decent quality (beans/Chinese eggplant/large eggplant).

Does anyone feel the same?

Can someone explain me this humour?

In this scene from S09E20, Ross is embarrassed about doing a Joan Rivers impression in front of Charlie.

I know who is Joan Rivers, but as a non-American I fail to understand the pop culture reference and the joke here.

Also, "can we walk" refers to a fish learning how to walk after getting out of the sea?

I always love Ross's acting and dialogue delivery here, but fail to understand complete meaning of this scene.

Getting ergonomic assessment done at home

I have been working from home since 2020, and my work chair - my loyal companion of over 10 years, is now causing problems with my back bone and muscles. I am adjusting temporarily using a ergonomic cushion, but I am looking for a long term solution.

Are there any shops in Brampton who can recommend a chair for me? Or do physiotherapist offer such services?

Thanks in advance

Why boomers and Gen X are so poor at using WhatsApp

Using English as writing in Gujarati takes more time.

I am a gen-Xer (Google to see what it means) and have moved out of India before WhatsApp became prevalent as the medium of communication. I am still in touch with my friends and relatives back in India via WhatsApp.

What common habit I have seen among them (except for my siblings and few friends) is that no one knows, or doesn't care, how to compose a message in WhatsApp or respond to one.

They will have no problem forwarding all the garbage and sending good morning gifs or video calling at odd hours (even without first confirming if it's a good time to call), but god forbid they bother to type a few words as a response to your message.

I communicate with my friends-relatives in pure Gujarati (Gujarati script without using any English words), and they read but do not respond, or will respond in English script with very poor grammar/spelling. Again, these are people who are university graduates and have basic phone literacy.

I understand that in India, WhatsApp has replaced phone calls and the practice of texting or leaving a voicemail is non-existent, but at least try to acknowledge when other person properly communicates with you in a language you can fully understand.

Do you have similar friends/relatives?

Rant over.

Question for people who question Richard and Monica's age difference.

Time to time, I see posts discussing the age difference between Richard and Monica and how it is deemed "yucky". For people who find this issue unsettling, how do you react to the 26 year age difference between Frank and Alice? While Richard and Monica broke up. Frank and Alice got married and had babies.

Monica was 27 when she met Richard. Frank was just 18 when he got married to 44 year old Alice.

What should Canada aspire to be - US or EU?

With Canada facing unique challenges, and Carney trying to steer the ship, what should Canada aspire to be, in your opinion?

Should we aspire to be EU -well funded healthcare and social systems, free university, high quality life, liberal society, efficient and well developed public transit and intercity rails?

Or should we aspire to become US - Energy and technology powerhouse, free market, home of next Google or Apple?

What was in Chandler's closet? (TOWT Routine - S610)

When Chandler, Phoebe and Rachel are searching for gifts from Monica, Chandler asks the girls if they have ever looked in his closet? The girls can't conceal their laughter much to Chandler's embarrassment.

We have established that Chandler is neither gay nor bicurious. So what was in his closet? Wild guesses only.

What are my payment and mobile options when travelling to London, England?

I will be visiting London next week. I plan to buy pounds from bank here, and use cash for most of my travel to avoid credit/debit card conversion fees. However, AI mentioned that London is mostly cashless. Is carrying cash still a good idea or is there any preloaded card available that I can use for food and other travel related activities?

Regarding mobile, my current provider Rogers is prohibitively expensive in England. Do I buy a SIM card when in London? Is there any way to make sure I am still reachable by text/call through my Rogers number?

Thanks in advance.

Has anyone written to their MP or MPP, and got something achieved as response?

Has anyone written to their elected rep (not municipal councillors) regarding an issue related to their riding (not personal issue), and had their rep done something or at least raise that question in assembly/parliament?

There are two issues where I strongly feel like reaching out to my MPP/MP.

However, my MPP is Mr. Sarkaria who has the transportation portfolio, and might not care about other issues.

My MP is this young political novice, and I only voted for her only because I wanted Carney to win. Not sure how vocal and effective she is in Parliament

Issue #1 - What is Ford's obsession with alcohol. His maij agenda seems to be making sure people have easy access to alcohol. Now he wants to make sure people are drunk at 4 AM in morning during world cup. Nowhere have I seen him or his buddies raise issue of healthcare funding, public transport or political reforms. Other than booze, his other priorities are cutting powers of Toronto city. No one took fall for delayed Eglinton LRT. How do we make the current government change its focus or at least acknowledge funding issues?

Issue #2 - Privatisation of airports and expansion of Billy Bishop airport. Privatisation is a bad idea as it will lead to monopoly and increased fees for travellers ( example - all airports in India are privatised and held by a single firm). Carney now wants to follow the suit to raise money. As per Twitter, he is also behind the curtains for Billy Bishop expansion.

These are two issues that have long term ramifications, and we need to push back as much as we can. How do we do that?

Tl;Dr - How do we make our voices heard loud and clear without waiting for elections?

How to prevent Netflix from charging my card?

I used to have an active Netflix subscription, but cancelled it last year. I then received an offer from Telus to have a basic Netflix-Amazon-Disney subscription for 3 months at reduced rate.

When I tried to cancel my Netflix subscription at end of the 3 months period, the account said that the my account was being managed by Telus, so I could not make any updates including making sure I do not get charged for next month. However, as soon as the trial period ended, Netflix charged my card for the month of June. I find this practice very unethical. This happened to me second time (I had tried to prevent it by logging into Netflix account before the trial period, but as I mentioned previously, I cannot make any changes during this period).

Also, I cannot remove my credit card details from the account. Either there has to be a credit card or paypal account in the card.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? If so, how did you resolve it?

UPDATE - I was able to revert the charge and remove my credit card by chatting with customer care in my Netflix account. However, I am keeping this post in case anyone has the same issue that I faced.

Buying TV antenna in 2026

Has anyone recently bought and installed a TV antenna? Are there any good shops in Brampton or Mississauga that can help me choose and install one?

I remember going to one shop on Matheson Blvd (IIRC) couple of years ago, but at that time I was living in a condo, antenna was not a good option for me.

Now that I moved to a house, I would like to pursue the option of having an antenna.

Also, is there anything like a 4K antenna?

Tickets for matches in Toronto start at $3,300 with one where Canada is playing sell above $6,300. Tickets for final in NJ begin at $16,000 USD

Seriously, who can afford these tickets? So an average middle class Torontonian has to remain content watching the match on TV just like other world cups?

A farmer's donkey got sick so he took him to the vet.

The vet checked the donkey and gave some tablets to be fed to the donkey. The doctor advised on how to administer the tablet - take a pipe, put the tablet in it, put one end of the pipe in the donkey's mouth and blow from the other end

Next day, the farmer went to see the doctor, full of red blotches on skin and all itchy. The doctor asked, " What happened"?

The farmer replied "The donkey blew first".
