Seller was asking 150 but than could not get the watch to work so I told them 50 as the case looks silver but not sure. I like to service / troubleshoot old watch movements so it will be a fun project? I don’t see a complete set for sale online so not sure what do you guys think? Thanks for any help or guidance.
First the bottles came in a plastic bag, 2nd almost more than half the tube seems empty. Third it is not doing anything on the crystal / glass i am trying to fix. It is from an old Guess watch nothing expensive so it is def not a saphire and the other two i should be able to polish right? I have spent about 20 or so minutes of hard and soft polishing and it is still all scratched up. Two question could I have gotten fake Poly? Is there a glass Poly does not work on other than saphire? How hard am i suppose to be pushing? In 20 min i made before and after and dont think it made any diffrent it is a lot smoother when i slide my finger on the glass. I tried tapping on it but not sure what to expect so not even sure what am I suppose to be hearing. I did do the water droplet test and it does expan on the cheap Guess watch and makes a perfect bead on my gen Rolex.
Do you keep them in your closet with the watches or they go in a basement storage unit some where not to be seen? Or do you even keep the boxes? Just wondering.
I been following the evolution of these machines and the latest one i am seeing is a desktop CNC machine that works with Aluminum, Steele, Wood, Titanium and even Jade. I can see this coming in very handy for replacement gears or cases or crowns etc (unless they outlaw it like they are trying to do with 3D printing). This machine is out of China so it will not have the same Bambu Lab big brother type setup. What else could you think of using this for?
Just saw a post on omega watches and than the OP deleted the post.it had correct dial spacing but it also had a screw down crown it was the 50th anniversary blue.

So saw a Patek 5226G and it did not have a screw down or press fit back. Not even sure how this opens as there is nothing on google about it. Not going to try and open one but just curious do watchmaking schools teach you or are there books about non vintage watches how do you learn what is the proper way to work on a watch? Some things you learn with experience but if someone brings you a new watch where do you begin?
I got a new 3d printer and have printed some stuff already like the holding case for my 3d main spring winders. Anything you printed or got printed to help you with watch making?
I know it is a personal choice but I can’t decide. As you can see the dial and the hands are in really bad shape. I can get replacement Seiko 5 hands and dial for around 20 bucks from Alix. I am not a big patina guy but this is my first movement I serviced and got working but knowing me I would not wear it like this. It is a Mumbai special but the case and movement are 6309 dial is from 6119 and the 2nd hand is golden so it is a franken for sure. Watch is running great for its age. Is there a way to save the dial without paying huge sum for a full restoration?
All i am finding is individual screw drivers, and they are not cheap either, for 25 bux you get one that can open omega 7 prong another 35 bucks and you can open the 3 prong one. Than there are multiple sizes for Rolex triangle etc. I feel like there has got to be a kit that you just change the tip on and work on different watches no?
I have tried two Date wheels, Two date wheel springs. I had everything put together but when i went to put the dial on i noticed the date being off. I feel like it is the date wheel spring may be?
Like the title says i been looking for the green bamboo Spring drive for a while but till today i did not hear about the lead times for repairs or reliability issues. Everyone on that thread is talking about the bad experience they had so i thought i would do a quick poll. How long have you had your Spring drive and have you had any issues? Is it really that bad?
Also what is up with my pointer shouldn’t it be pointing to the + and - signs and not the other way?
