My grandma was from a German/possibly Austrian Jewish family that moved to London in around 1890. I've got church cards that suggest that they converted- my grandma, born in 1929, was baptised in the Church of England.
All the family first names I can find are typically English and of their time- Lilian, Audrey, George. My grandma's father, however, rejoiced in the name "Lord Herman Lionel Frederick".
I know some cultures give honorifics as first names, but I'm not aware of that being a Jewish tradition. Lord Herman was born in 1900, and his mum was English. Was it an immigrant's slightly clumsy attempt to give their child a social leg up?
If anyone has any idea- I only have any of this information because my mum, Keeper of Stuff, is dead and so is pretty much everyone else- what this means please let me know.

That is all.
Found my cat ineptly killing it. I squashed it to put it out of its misery. The body was about an inch and a half long, maybe a bit less.
I'll probably sound like a bitch here but I'm angry and worried.

I'm having a very small wedding in my home town. Ten guests, quick civil ceremony and lunch afterwards.

My only attendant is my oldest friend, who I've known for over thirty years. She's a bit of a drama queen, but has many fine qualities and I accept this about her.

However, she's got a dodgy knee, and walks with a stick. I booked a hotel room for her- with her approval, I sent her a link to their website. A couple of weeks later she told me her doctor 'forbade' her from climbing stairs, so I had to find somewhere else. She also rescinded her offer to look after our cats while we go on honeymoon, because our house has stairs.

I booked the cats into a cattery, got her a step free hotel room, I thought all was well until yesterday when she let me know she'd decided to use a wheelchair going forward. The restaurant I've booked has two steps up to the entrance- manageable with a stick, not in a wheelchair.

'Decided' is the key word. She's got a tendency to grab on to the latest thing- in the last few years she's come out as autistic, bisexual \*and\* non binary. Nothing wrong with any of those, but they are all things that can get you plenty of attention. As can being disabled.

I know her knee hurts, but the timing of all this is very suspicious. If I know her at all- and I do- she'll make an absolute performance about every single aspect of the wedding, and I'm worried I'm going to spend the whole day having to make alterations and accommodations for her that she won't tell me she needs beforehand. I'm fully expecting her to ring me the day before to do a 100 mile round trip to go and pick her up.

Booking a cattery and a lost deposit has taken about 10% of our small budget, and that'll be even more if I have to cancel the restaurant.

I'm just exhausted by it. When I think of my wedding day I should be looking forward to it, not dreading having to focus on her. I'm not a young bride- I'm not expecting the full bells and whistles of a hen party, bridal shower, dress fittings etc. But there's been no suggestion on her end that's she's planned anything at all.

I don't think I'm being unreasonable, but I'm sure Reddit will correct me.
My friend had a stroke a week and a bit ago. He's physically unaffected but can't express himself- a sentence will start ok, but although he clearly knows what he wants to say it turns into nonsense words. He can understand what I'm saying but reading is hard. I took him in some copies of Viz- which he's always enjoyed- reasoning that he can at least look at the pictures. He has called me but I think a nurse set it up, when I saw him last he couldn't really make sense of his phone.
He's very bored, no one else on the ward is particularly interactive and the amount of visitors has naturally slowed. He's improved and will continue to improve because he's stubborn and will work hard. He's absolutely 100% still in there.
He says he doesn't need anything, but if anyone has any ideas that would either help him or cheer him up I'd be grateful.
Mum mum mum mum mum mum what you doing mum mum mum mum
I'm getting married in August, and because we're doing it in a registry office none of the music can have religious references.
I've been singing in choirs for 30 years and I'll be buggered if I get married without including some wonderful choral music. Does any spring to mind that isn't modern, but avoids any reference to god? Now I'm thinking about it of course I can think of nothing at all.

My partner was reminiscing about how superior Mars Bars made in the US are to ours, particularly now.
The online American sweet shops all have US varieties, but not the original ones. I've been looking, but maybe in the wrong place. Does anyone have a lead?
I was singing at a concert the other weekend and banged myself up falling off the staging directly onto some more staging, and bouncing off it. I landed on the floor and made a lot of noise getting there. Everyone looked.
Before I'd even reassured myself I was still alive and hadn't broken anything, I forced a laugh like I hadn't just slammed my left side onto square metal piping and chipboard. I cheerily assured everyone I was fine before limping into town for some ibuprofen and hot chocolate. I was not fine.
Why do we do that?
