Frank Muller's Narration

Hello!

My name is Sam Fonseca and I’m a cartoonist. Drawing original graphic novels is a very time-consuming and solitary endeavor, so recently I decided to listen to some audiobooks to keep me company - starting with the Stephen King books I hadn’t read yet.

For some reason, I hadn’t ventured into The Dark Tower series yet, and since I have a long road ahead of me, it seemed like the perfect companion.

Some other King-loving friends had told me not to “get discouraged by the first book (The Gunslinger)” - the warning, however, proved completely unnecessary; I loved the book, and it has already made it onto my list of King favorites.

After finishing The Gunslinger, I immediately started listening to The Drawing of the Three, and wow. The addition of new characters and how things are unfolding is getting me really excited. What a fun book!

But as I listened, a thought crossed my mind; the version I was listening to was supposed to be narrated by one person (what was the narrator’s name again? I don’t remember) - yet it felt as though it were performed by a cast of at least 10 different actors. It was unbelievable -perfect voices, accents, intonations, and performances.

At first, these details went unnoticed, but about halfway through the book, I thought, “Damn, who’s narrating this?! He’s a virtuoso!”

Surely this version is already known to many here, and I’m probably saying something that will just make a lot of people think, “tsk, look, another newbie discovering that ‘water is wet,’” but… Well, I just wanted to note how Frank Muller’s narration blew my mind.

I couldn’t help but Google his name to see what other books he’d narrated and learn about his tragic passing.

So, if this post encourages someone who doesn’t know his narrations to give them a try, well, that’s something.

Simply Incredible!

RIP Frank Muller.

Aversion to being touched, huh, Countess? I think I can relate a little.

Countess, please... Mind your manners, you're making everyone uncomfortable. Oh, you don't care? Okay, then :/

...this is just a tribute!

I'm rewatching the entire anime series while drawing new pages of my own comic book, and it's really giving me that extra boost, but whenever I revisit the beginning of the anime, I remember how the series took a very different path in the manga at first (with Yusuke actually being a spiritual detective, helping wandering spirits on Earth and things like that), and I always wonder what the series would have been like if the Jump editors and reader feedback hadn’t steered the story toward a battle-focused manga. I think it would have been really good too, but we can only imagine.

Well, I made this drawing ( in my own style) and this orchestral opening theme to pay tribute to this manga that made me want to become a comic book artist; I hope you like it

The 90's Rogue is the reason I still draw this kind of jacket on a lot of my characters - for better or worse!

The Ridiculous Dark Adventures of Countess Bonbon

I just posted this comic strip on Webtoons, and honestly, I was shocked to come back to the platform and see so much AI there... Ugh!

Well, wishing to re-join the site's team of real artists, this strip was created entirely with brushes, paper, and hand-drawn digital finishing touches. I hope you can get a good laugh!

See you!

Sam

The Secret Life of My Favorite Pencil ✏️✨ - YouTube

Hi!

I’m a comic book artist, and it just so happens that this is one of my favorite pencils, and this story happened to me.

My question is: is this really common in the world of makeup? I know that “Derm” in “dermatograph” refers to “surface or skin,” but… I don’t know, something seemed strange to me, since the pencil is used to draw on glass, metal, and wood, etc.!

Is it normally used on eyebrows?

Thanks!

Flying Girls

An old drawing paying tribute to these flying girls. At the time, I was going through a really tough period. Shortly after I finished it, things started to get better, so I always remember when I finished it.

Pencils, balloint pen and PS colors.

The Bridge of Khazad-dûm

I was drawing the next book in my graphic novel series while listening to this popular channel dedicated to LotR, and suddenly I saw this old piece of art I made years ago being used to illustrate the video.

I was happy because, in this case, the channel gives proper credit to all the artists whose work it uses.

Well, cool!

The Perry Mason riff pops into my head out of the blue every now and then. After I finished another page of my comic, I tried playing around on the piano, and this little nonsense came out!
RIP Ozzy.
