So what did the last season do to the local arctic hare population?

I wonder if the contestants temporarily upset the eco-system with all the hares that were caught this season. I was surprised at the number of hares in such a small area. Especially when one person gets 50+ in a short time and small area.

Who has come closest to thriving and actually being healthy out there?

Seems even the winners come out of the competition pretty scarred when it comes to their health.

It makes we wonder, given the scenario of the show, is it even possible for a contestant to actually maintain quality health and survive a whole winter if necessary? I think the simple answer is no, especially considering they just aren't getting a balanced diet.

It is possible somebody could get enough calories if they landed a moose and/or had good ice fishing. But without a balanced diet of some sort, their health would take a dive regardless.

Add in the lack of quality heat, the work necessary to get wood, water, keep a fire going, hunting, trapping, it just isn't really possible.

I chuckle a bit when thinking about the size of Super Star Destroyer.

The Star Destroyer was already the reigning symbol of power in the galaxy. If a Star Destroyer showed up, everybody took cover or ran.

So what did they do? They decided to make a bigger one. Not just a bit bigger, not twice the size, but hey, lets go all out and make it 12x larger! That's quite a jump in size there.

So instead of having a dozen or so more ships to send around the galaxy, they have 1 big one while they are still building even bigger Death Star. Because its planet destroying firepower needed to be evern bigger for some reason!

Some Empire Architect has little man syndrome and was really compensating.

Noticed most of West Yellowstone hotels are book this next weekend

Anything happening that I am not aware of? I thought the post Labor Day weekend usually the crowds started to diminish.

I was surprised to find a bit hard to find a hotel room this time around.

So is anything really going to happen after the 60 days or will we all be just waiting in limbo for a lot longer than that?

Given the past history of CMMC, I just don't see anything being resolved in the 60 day period. It took years to get it out of the door with numerous delays and they expect the government review to happen in 60 days with tangible results?

Meanwhile, many of us are in C3PAO limbo not knowing where, how, and when to move forward or sit pat.

We're still moving forward with compliance. But to be honest there is big difference between being compliant with NIST 800-171 and audit ready. I firmly believe you can be secure, compliant but not necessarily 100% audit ready.

I think we will all be holding our breath waiting for an official, definitive announcement after the 60 days and it won't really materialize like we are expecting.

What are thoughts on using TeamViewer for accessing systems remotely?

Our goal is to have the entire network fall under scope but we have consultants/customers that need access a few our systems that won't have CUI on them.

I don't want to give them VPN access to keep their machines from falling under scope and to just remove all the access permission headaches. Would giving TeamViewer access to selected servers cause CMMC Level 2 compliance issues?

I rewatched the finale recently and have a few observations.

Why not just disconnect the Machine for a bit so it doesn't get the virus?

Second, how in the world could a bunch of Xbox computers even compete with several dozen massive data centers that Samaritan used? It was never a fair fight and the new Machine never had the CPU power to even begin to do what it was doing before.

Why not compress and backup the Machine like they did before? Make a backup somewhere and turn off the connection.

If the Samaritan copy in the vault was air gapped, how did it suddenly have a fiber optic connection?

Let's show Discovery a little love: name the characters you actually, really like

My list of disliked characters on the show is much longer than the ones I actually like. But I've decided to try and be a bit positive today. List the characters you actually like.

  • Captain Lorca - I actually liked his style of captain and found his character interesting and fun to watch
  • Jett Reno - Gotta love our wise crackin, straight shooting engineer
  • Philippa Georgiou - Another fun and interesting character
  • Saru - Was great until he decided to leave to help the dylithium cry baby

Are MSPs really worth it?

I am in charge of a very small IT group working on CMMC Level 2 for around 65 employees, many of which are WFH. I've enlisted a CMMC certified MSP to handle workstation management which includes patching, monitoring, anti-virus, inventory, software lists, reporting, etc.

Before I sign on the dotted line I'd like to see if you all think MSPs are worth the cost in these situations. We also are using InTune ourselves but lack the resources to properly manage it.

Just finished Terra Incognita again. The whole Carter love story was so contrived.

I just don't see why they had to add a romantica element to Carter/Reese right before she dies. It was so contrived and unnecessary. There wasn't anything leading up to it and was just jammed down our throats at the last second to make her death seemingly more impactful.

Was the jungle a good or bad location?

Seems like suffering level was taken down several notches this season. I haven't see the full season yet (on episode 6) but they are 30 days in and seem to be doing rather well.

I think being near water they all have gotten enough food to survive well enough and as a result the producers have to create artificial ways to people cast off.

Plus it seems like the bows were rather meaningless when it came to hunting. Everything just lives on clams and fish instead of hunting.

I feel sorry for Kevin Chapman (Fusco) without Carter.

Without a second detective, he became just kind of an extra character that would randomly show up when needed. They didn't have a good avenue to show him doing his police work without another detective to work with. The B storylines with the detective kind of disappeared at that point.

Atlantis: Lots of smart scientists, SG-1: Just Carter

Seems like Atlantis and even SGU had several smart people that could save the day or at least be serviceable.

In SG-1 Carter had the ultimate job security because everybody else that was a scientist at the SGC was comically just terrible.

I sure hope the fireworks don't get moved back to the greenbelt.

I see alot of people clamoring for this but when you stop and actually think about it, that would be a terrible idea. The power of nostalgia is kicking in for them.

Go down and walk around the greenbelt. It is surrounded by tall trees. Anybody that sits along the grassy parts of the greenbelt will not see the fireworks at all. There is a reason it was moved.

While the greenbelt is a great place to gather, it is terrible location for watching fireworks, and the location prohibits any usage of lower level fireworks.

My suggestion, keep it where it is at for now. Maybe Melaleuca isn't sponsoring it anymore and it won't be nearly as big, but that means less people and the current location can then still handle the crowd.

Unfortunately, there really isn't another venue in the area that can handle 250,000 people for an event.

So what was Cain's plan before encoutering Galactica?

Seems like Pegasus was kind of just running around performing guerilla warfare. But what could one battlestar do against hundreds of basestars?

Did Cain actually have a viable plan or was she going to live and fight from day to day? Adama at least had a somewhat viable plan, run really far away and hopefully find help.

Watched the finale again and still get upset that Baltar survives everything

Part of me wanted to see him suffered a terrible fate and get what was coming to him for all of mistakes. But he in essence became the narrator of the show in many ways and was destined to survive.

I absolutely love the music in the final TROS Trailer. Was it used anywhere else?

This music hits at every level for me. It is the Star Wars theme at is core, captures the emotion of final movie and the saga coming to an end, the majesty of Star Wars itself coming to an emotional conclusion, etc. John Williams at his usual best.

Was this score used anywhere else?

How to handle application whitelisting/blacklisting for engineering workstations?

We are working on CMMC Level 2 and are trying to address configuration management and especially in relation to what applications can and can't be installed on workstations.

We are likely going to use InTune but I don't think I can create a repository of every install that they will need. I don't have the man power to package ever little utility they need in their development which could be in the hundreds for our small workforce.

What solutions would all of you suggest for this?

Watched the final episode again last night and I am still irked by the timeline in the epilogue

150.000 years is just too much. 15,000 years would have been more believable and tie in better with the original series premis.

With the 150,000 years timeline it means Lee's society basically failed and and it took tens of thousands of years to move on from almost caveman like society.

Also, don't get rid of the ships. You have no clue if the cylons that are still out there will ever find you. Technically Earth is just one jump away from their old hub.

Earth was being faced with a massive threat and literally had nothing to defend itself against mothership showing up at our doorstep.

Yet, SG-1 and the SGC weren't doing much to get the defenses/technology they needed. They were making friends all around the galaxy but weren't really bolstering our defenses.
