Middle Grade books that showcase Modern German? My friends have told me what I'm reading is very outdated.

Hi everyone!

So I'm trying to read more books in German alongside the daily news and thought pieces, etc. However my current go to (Märchen der Brüder Grimm, Mathilda und Der Kleiner Prinz) some German friends have told me have very outdated translations and speak.

My go to used to be Harry Potter, that's what I used to learn English, but I heavily dislike the author and the series now and so unfortunately cannot enjoy it anymore. I'm looking for something a little more advance than children's literature up to YA, I don't feel ready to read anything more dense.

What are some similar books with good German translations or originally written in German that are more modern?

Thanks!

With the new customs duty, just how will we be able to get access to Asian Beauty products in the EU starting July?!

So for those unaware there will be a new customs rule starting July that will affect any products ordered outside of the EU:

"The €3 duty will be applied to each different item, according to their tariff headings, contained in a consignment."

This means that those of us who used to utilize the €150 or under rule to stock up on diverse products from places like yesstyle or stylevana will now face charges PER UNIQUE ITEM (so if you order two of the same sunscreens you pay once, but two different sunscreens you pay twice).

This absolutely hurts the regular consumer and I base a lot of my beauty routine in these products specially sunscreen :(

I guess nobody knows how to deal with it before it happens, but I still wanted to get others ideas on how they plan to deal with this. Does anyone have EU based alternative providers without such higher markup? Thanks!

What could I have done better to preserve my flowers longer?

So I received a stunning bouquet. It lasted me less than a week (received then on Wednesday, by Sunday it was already wilting). To be fair to them we are in 35+ degree weather right now. Attached are pictures of it fresh versus now.

What I did good and bad:

  • Changed water daily using filtered water each time
  • Didn't add bleach or anything as I didn't have it
  • Cut the stems at an angle an inch or so every time
  • Scissors were rather dull so I'm sure that might have damaged the stems a little contributing to mold perhaps

  • Put them next to the window for a day or two but moved to a less harsh places away from direct light

What could I have done better to preserve them?

Also, does anyone know if at these stage some of them can be dried or after being in water for so long it won't work?

Thanks!

In your Weeks, what do you actually use your blank pages for?

Hi everyone.

This is my first year with a Hobonichi and I'm a fan. I have the weeks and originally I was wondering if I should've gone with the mega but decided against it, and I'm glad because I have used a grand total of ONE (1) of the blank pages 😂

Now I'm wondering what everyone else is using it for? I don't track a lot of things as I've found it just doesn't suit me or stresses me out. And I have other journals where I do longer form writing.

Any other ideas? Thanks!

This is after spending 20k already to pull for Guide of No Return... As a F2P this feels like a huge achievement.

I had almost 80k diamonds and 70 crystals before I got Guide of No Return yesterday. I have not pulled on a five star since the cat outfit... and I have never pulled for a final evo. I am so happy I can pull for both outfits this patch though, on my way to get Floral Rebirth.

I started layering two gels and I've been loving the results.

I've been struggling with my curls for a bit because of hormonal changes and hard water, plus my hair is super fine so the curls disappear super fast without a strong enough gel and cast BUT it's also super fine that it gets weighted down very easily, so you can understand the struggle.

I have tried foams which my hair HATES, hairspray which my asthma also hates, and gel is the only thing that really works. I saw someone on a video saying they layer two types of gel and I decided to give it a try just because, as I had used both of them separately and they gave good results but not perfect so I tried them together and I'm beyond happy.

I also replaced rinse out conditioner with using leave in conditioner as a rinse out and it has made a world of difference with product buildup and weighting down.

Routine is: Balea Tiefreinigung or Wella Ultimate Repair shampoo (I clarify every wash), curlbites weightless leave in conditioner, curlbites scrunching gel and curlbites strong hold gel on top. Styled on wet hair in the shower after scrunching the excess water with a towel only once, and disfussed until dry.

A skirt like this but with a handkerchief cut instead?

I saw the perfect one on viinted the other day but was too slow to purchase it and now it's gone. I'm absolutely in love with this look and looking for suggestions preferably not on Amazon and available in Europe.

Thank you!

Purse/shoulder bag recommendations for corporate but with a goth/alt edge to it

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a leather shoulder bag, but I've been struggling to pinpoint exactly what I am looking for. I want something that's visually alternative but that also works in a somewhat serious setting.

Can anyone that uses a purse like this maybe let me know what they use?

I already have a backpack that I love so I wanted something fancier.

Thanks!

Has anyone in Europe (Germany) ordered from Foxblood? Do they have an official European retailer?

Hi everyone.

I've had my eye on Foxblood for a while but they're from the US and shipping stuff from there is a pain with the fees and taxes and anything else. Just wondering if anyone has ordered before and can give an estimate to how much they had to pay? Or if anyone knows if there's an European store that carries some of the articles. I have googled but none of the places seem legit.

Alternatively, if anyone has European store suggestions that are similar I appreciate it.

Thank you!

I have found that I am a very verbose journaler. I write A LOT. And it's even worse when I'm unable to write one of more days in a row for whatever reason, it feels like all the topics accumulate and I have do much pent up things to say I struggle to put them to paper when they get to be too many.

It creates a cycle in which I block myself from writing because I just can't seem to untangle the web of thoughts. It feels overwhelming because I want to tackle so much and feels like there's never enough time.

How do you guy deal with it?

I usually journal in the evening but I'm considering doing it in the morning also. I don't know, I haven't found what time works best for me yet.

Any discussion on this is appreciated, if anyone also deals with feeling like this.
