What’s up With IKEA?

I see IKEA has a new line of Matter over Thread apart power devices at very reasonable prices, like half of what Eve wants for a similar smart plug! Seems too good to be true.

So, a few questions:
- are they reliable, long term?
- are they happy with an Apple border router? Or Home Assistant?
- do they play well with other Matter/Thread devices, like from Eve?

Thanks!

Devices lost in ISP Replacement

I needed to switch to a new ISP, which meant a new router, but the eero network is unchanged, same name, same topology. All of my Apple HomeKit gear is working correctly after that, but HomeAssistant has lost touch with all my Shelly devices which means they don’t get bridged to HomeKit via HomeAssistant. 😩🧐🤨😡😖

I can log into HA and all appears to be working correctly except for the MIA devices. I can see the missing Shelly devices with their IP addresses from my eero app and control them from my Shelly app, so they are on the network.

Anyone got any tips on what happened and how I unscrew this?

Good so far

Got fed up with intermittent problems with my local ISP; semi-rural area not wired for cable or fiber so I was looking for an alternative. Could not hold my nose tight enough to go with Starlink, but saw a commercial for Tmob Home Internet so checked that out this morning. Available in my area, seems to meet all my needs, so I ordered a kit 10am this morning, and that was delivered at 1:30this afternoon - not bad! And that cost me $0.00!!!

Plugged it in, used the app to get it started, no drama up-&-running in 10
minutes or so, would have been 5 minutes but I plugged power into the wrong C port at first. Tried Speedtest app, 650 Mbps compared to 60 for the locals. Holy bitrate, Batman, I like this!

So my next trick is to switch my eero mesh system to the Tmob gateway because I need the mesh to cover my awkward L-shaped home. I see the admin IP and info on the back but haven’t tried that yet. For those who know these things…
1 - I assume I can use 1 of the LAN ports on the back to feed the eeros? Any difference between them?
1 - can I turn the Tmob wifi off?
1 - can I bridge the Tmob router to use the eero router, or am I better off bridging the eero router out? I know I don’t want both routers double NAT-ing.

Mix 6+ and Pro 6e nodes

I’m happy with my 4-node 6+ system, but my local small biz ISP is grumbling at me and trying to blame my “pretty old” 6+ router for some intermittent service problems. I’m considering buying 1 Pro 6e to use as the router just to shut them up.

So what happens if I mix that with my existing 6+ nodes? Would that work ok? I only get 150 Mbps from the ISP - I’m in a semi-rural area on the low side of the digital divide, so performance isn’t an issue.

Printer Recycling (and Laptops Too)

I finally gave up on my 10-year old HP laser printer so now it needs to go on to the next phase of life but not a landfill. Looks like the closest place to Fallbrook for recycling is in San Marcos - anyone have a better option?

No Knicks game tonight

Came home ready to watch the NBA Knicks game. But noooo… my local channel with the game is blacked out because ATT can’t manage to play ‘let’s make a deal’ with whatever media conglomerate xxxx-box company owns my local affiliate.

A pox on both your houses. {<*+*,~<<|<>€ !

Apple CarPlay head unit?

I’ve got a 2013 AWD LX with the Sirius radio and no plans to sell the car but I’d like to replace that head with a unit capable of Apple CarPlay and Sirius. Don’t need more power or woofer or anything, just features. Don’t need GPS with CarPlay. Seems like this would require something to relocate physical buttons to on screen?

I Google’d around some and it looks like there are a few good alternatives but I thought maybe someone in here could say “yeah I did that and the <make/model> I used was perfect/terrible.” Any advice? Experience you could share?
