Pond Upgrade

I decided to go with a barrel pond. Apparently wine barrels are 2" wider than whiskey barrels. Oh well. The fish have been in there for 4 days and seem healthy and active.

Pond re-do

I initially got the blue pot on the left for a mini-pond. Quick math told me that it was 18 gallons, but with the taper and plants, it was probably closer to 10, so I decided to go a little bigger. I picked up the barrel and a liner this weekend. I might pick up a Japanese iris to add a little height interest to it.

Also, I'm slightly annoyed that the liner that is supposed to fit a barrel is so much smaller. Apparently, a wine barrel is 2" wider, and 2" taller than a bourbon barrel. It smells good though!

Is there anything I should do to get my mini pond ready for medaka?

Any vintage audio or video people?

A hoarder house is being cleaned out down the street, and there are dozens of brand new in the wrapper Maxell VHS and audio cassette tapes piled up getting ready to go to the dump. They must be useful to someone. PM me for details.

Edit: I am not the hoarder. I'm just here to encourage other hoarders.

Medaka and pond supplies

Is there a fish shop in Tacoma that sells Medaka (Japanese Rice Fish)? I'm also looking for pond plant soil. I've tried Todd's in Puyallup, who suggested that I try McLendon's but they didn't have any, though they do have a basic selection of pond plants.

Any other places I can check? I know of a Medaka breeder in Woodinville, and one in Yakima, but I'd rather try local before I go mail order.

In Sidewalk cable covers in the US?

https://www.kerbocharge.com/

I found this UK based company that does in sidewalk cable covers for curb charging EVs. It looks like a great alternative to using ADA compliant cable covers as allowed in some cities, and boring under the sidewalk as required in other cities. Is there an alternative that is available in the US?

9ft opening, right against wall

I have a 9' opening that I'd like to put a new door on, but I don't think there's enough room for the track on the left side. Will I have to get a 8' door, and narrow the opening a bit? It is low clearance, but it's the same as the other side, so I think a low clearance kit should work. I have 89.5" to work with.

My Garry Oak has acorns!

I planted my Garry Oak (Oregon White Oak) in 2019 (maybe 18) when it was just a 16-in tall twig. It is still a little bit spindly but it has started to fill out this year and it has two acorns! I read that they're not supposed to start getting acorns until they're about 20 years old.

It's a little hard to tell from this picture, but it's about 15 feet tall. When I was researching Garry Oak, everything I read was about how slow they grow, and hard hard they are to transplant. I guess I got mine young enough that transplanting wasn't an issue. It has been really hardy too. I haven't had to water it at all since probably the 2nd year. It has two growths per season. Once in the spring, and then some branches grow a bit more in mid summer. The upper most leader is putting on another couple of inches of growth right now, with some new leaves coming in. I'm excited for it to start filling out.

r/AdventureBike is recruiting mods

I started r/AdventureBike in 2014, then forgot about it for some time. After a while, I was surprised to see it start to get some activity, and in the last couple of years, it has grown quite a bit.

In the last couple of years, my adventures have shifted towards the aquatic kind, so it is time to hand this sub over to new mods who can be more active in it's growth.

If you are interested in becoming a mod, please apply to using the link above.

Time for a new cover. What should I use?

It's about time to replace my cover. I restitched a lot of it a couple of years ago, but there are some tears, a couple of zippers are failing, and I want to make some changes to it.

Is Sunbrella still the right choice? What kind? (It seems like there are a few different types). Who has the best prices?

Golden Smokebush not doing so well

My mom gave my wife this bush when her dad died, and every year for the 3 years it has been in our yard, the leaves start to brown in late spring/early summer. Any ideas why and what can be done to fix it?

Why won't the service reminder on the app reset?

I had my car serviced at my local dealership just after 8,000 miles. It took a week, but it shows up on the service log, but the "Next Service" and "Maintenance Due" reminders won't reset. There's nothing in the car that says I'm due or anything, just the app. Any ideas on how to make this go away?

What should I do with this POS WeeGo Jump pack?

This thing would never hold a charge long enough to be useful. After one week, it would only have a half charge. What's the use of a jump pack if it never holds a charge?

I've replaced it with a Noco.
