This is how bad Squadplay and Squad Leaders are: can you even tell who is the squad leader?

At launch, each squad member had two icons next to its name: the class icon (good) and an identifier icon made of a circle with a number in it. Compared to previous games, the intent was good: the goal is probably to quickly communicate with squad mates. I guess this was mostly done for RedSec. "Hey 3, go there".

And they decided that, in order to differentiate the Squad Leader, instead of an asterisk next to the name, the circle would become a cross. I like the idea. But the execution was not great: in the heat of a game, those shapes are pretty difficult to differentiate. To this day, I'm pretty sure most of the playerbase isn't even aware that these distinctions even exist.

And then, later, they updated it. They made it worse. My guess? Accessibility reasons, maybe? (lol). For those who had trouble reading the numbers, they probaby decided to use a differente shape for each squad member. Before, we were only identified with a number. Now they added a shape (circle, pentagon, cross, hexagon).

Two issues though:

  • There is now absolutely no way to guess who's the squad leader
  • It's still difficult to differentiate (accessibility reasons lol?).

I'll admit those UI issues seems to be pretty minor given the scope of the game. Yeah, maybe.

Or maybe not: it's just a symptom of a bigger issue:

SQUAD LEADERSHIP DOES NOT EXIST, OR MORE PRECISELY DOES NOT MATTER IN BATTLEFIELD 6.

  • Nobody gives objectives.
  • There is no way to request an order.
  • No way to take over the squad leader role.
  • No incentive to have good squad play and stick together (dont mention those passive skills).
  • I don't even know when I'm the actual squazd leader (no special message "You're the squad leader, set an objective").
  • No special actions for being the squad leader (🎵"call-in maybe?"🎵)
  • The AI Commander exists and nobody knows how it works or even care but I guess everyone relies on it now.

The current state of Battlefield 6 is good. There are still things left to improve and squad play is one of them. I would be VERY happy if there was some actual "Squad play initiative" soon.

The estimated cost to repair my 2yo Google Pixel Watch 2 is 255€. I can get a new Google Pixel Watch 3 for less. That pisses me off.

I don't want a new Google Pixel Watch. Mine is working fine, despite its issues:

  1. One of the metal plates on the back has come off, likely due to the extreme heat and the heatwave.
  2. The side groove on the watch case no longer holds the strap properly, causing it to detach on its own.

The first one will be easy to fix, I just have to find the right glue (so far, looks like other users had the same issue, so it shouldn't be a major problem).

The second one is more problematic especially in the long term. Right now, I've found a full protective case with built-in straps. But once it breaks (and based on its material it will eventually break) it will be difficult to find a replacement since they don't seem to be made anymore.

For now, I can use and wear my watch. The only realistic thing Google was able to do so far was to give me a 50€ coupon which is the default commercial gesture. Which I appreciate.

But all of that still pisses me off. The watch still works. Other than those issues, everything is pristine: no scratches, battery is fine, no bugs, etc. But there is no way to repair it easily, affordably or to find replacement parts.

Repairing a product shouldn't cost more than buying a newer one.

Bonus question: If your car had a broken taillight, would you be fine with paying $49,000 to fix it? Or would you be okay throwing the whole car away to buy a new one for slightly less, even though it still drives just fine? Probably not.

How is the game today compared to its first few months for newcommers?

With the Steam sales, I'm finally considering getting the game. While I noticed its reviews are now mixed instead of great (If I'm not wrong, it's because of one recent update changing the meta?), I was wondering if the game was still:

  1. Playable for a newcommer (is there some kind of matchmaking? Is the low level playerbase relevant?)
  2. As welcoming as it was before (correct me if im wrong, but it sounded like Arc Raiders was known for its non toxic playerbase and for being very welcoming instead)
  3. How grindy the is game? Does the game expects me to play daily/weekly/monthly or is that non relevant?

Bonus question: Is the game enjoyable as a solo player? And as a solo player without mic?

Anyone got a huge performance boost with 1.2?

I started playing the game about a week ago. Honestly, this game was running poorly and I had to set everything on medium.

Suddenly, I realized how well the game was running. For "no reason". I was able to crank each setting to the maximum and it's now running pretty well on my old hardware.

Today, I came on this sub and suddenly realized there was an update a few days ago. I wasn't expecting it at all since I haven't been following the news and thought it wouldn't receive any more updates (in my mind, this game was released a couple of years ago but I'm obviously wrong). I took a look at the patch notes but there's no mention of performances increase.

Did anyone else get a huge performance boost since 1.2? Was it expected? Or did I change something without knowing it on my setup?

Since release, sledgehammer has been officially nerfed once, as mentioned here, but I'm pretty sure it's been reduced more over time. All of that in addition to the global destruction rules being toned down (for exemple, in Empire State, it's now impossible to destroy parts of the building at B, or the inside of C in Iberian Offsensive).

Note that this is only in multiplayer mode since in RedSec it's officially more effective.

What was once one of the selling point during the reveal (ability to destroy anything "strategically") has become just an other melee weapon, but a very slow one. Some walls can still be destroyed, but the sledgehammer effectiveness has been reduced so significantly that I don't see any reason to keep using it.

Dice: the sledgehammer needs to be a viable option again!
