Favorite episodes from kids shows that talk about how to be a friend?

Looking for some episodes to play for my 6 year old that focus on making friends/being a friend/social communication. We have watched Daniel Tiger in the past and similar shows which are nice, but I’m hoping to play some specific episodes before the start of the school year as a refresher!

R + Co Balloon Dry Volume Spray vs Bumble and Bumble Dryspun Volume Spray?

I know B and B is super popular with their spray, and I’ve been eyeing it. Also just started noticing the R and Co spray. Thoughts on either of these?

Favorite mid-range/salon brand shampoo and conditioner?

I am almost done with my bottle of Biolage and have enjoyed it, and am wanting to splurge again. Interested in trying out one of the lines made more for thickening rather than just volume, such as the Kerastase densifique, Rene Furterer, etc.

What have you enjoyed in that range that also made somewhat of a difference?

Peels vs Lasers for Fading Freckles (not acne marks)?

I have genetic freckles, as well as some sun damage from over the years. I keep seeing posts about chemical peels, lasers, serums, etc, but most of the people seem to be talking about fading acne marks.

What do you think is more effective for reducing freckles? I don’t necessarily want to get rid of all of them; just make it a little lighter. I’m also a self conscious person, which makes me hesitant to try a peel.

I’ll be seeing a dermatologist this week and I’m hoping to get a prescription for some cream or serum to use, but I’m guessing that I’ll want to get more done at some point.

Thanks!

How to cover quarter circle windows in our 1930s house??

Our boys will be moving into their new room soon, and it has two of these little “eye”/quarter circle windows, whatever you call them. We want to put up some kind of curtain or shade to keep the light out as needed. What do people use for this kind of window? I haven’t had much luck searching online.

Shampoo for fine hair

I didn’t see anything in the rules against posting hair care questions, so I hope this is ok! I have fine, oily hair and have yet to find a shampoo/conditioner I really like (so far Biolage is my favorite). Any recommendations? Also interested in hearing about any hair thickening or growth serums people use!

Tretonoin popular outside of US?

In all of my groups based in the U.S., tretonoine is recommended as the basic product or fading pigmentation. I feel like I don’t hear about it as much in my non-U.S. based forums. Had anyone else had the same experience ?

Is sunscreen the only product from other countries that gets reformulated for the U.S.?

I know that here in the U.S., if we want European or Asian sunscreen we need to order it from specific non-U.S. websites. But for other products, like shampoo/conditioner, serums, makeup, etc, can we buy from the brands’ US website and it will be the same?

Favorite YouTube channels for beginners?

Bonjour! I’m looking for videos on YouTube that are kind of short lesson format. I have been doing some French with Alexa, but haven’t seen her mentioned much on here. Curious if you guys have other recommendations!

Do you think my son was misdiagnosed?

My 6 year old was diagnosed a few months ago with ASD Level 1, as well as separation anxiety disorder. However, as I talk to/read about others' experiences with Level 1 and reflect on my son as well as myself, I'm wondering more if he has the 'broader autism phenotype' and anxiety. Obviously a big part of the neuropsych eval was based on parent report, and I feel like maybe we were answering based on how he was before/overemphasizing certain aspects.

We feel like he has come such a long way since the start of kindergarten, where he started off sobbing/clinging to his dad's legs, crying throughout the school day because he missed us, didn't participate in class, was by himself at recess, etc. But after 4 months or so, he made some friends, started participating in class, joins other kids, even ones not in his class, at recess, is doing well academically, etc. He still doesn't like going to school, but he will separate from us without tears and go into school and be fine the rest of the day. He still has some sensory sensitivities (as do I), such as not liking loud noises or large groups, but it doesn't derail his day. He's also fairly adaptable to changes in routine, and doesn't have hyper interests.

The main thing he struggles with is identifying/talking about emotions, and having back and forth conversations (similar to myself as well), but I also feel like that is not a strong suit for kindergarten age kids in general. He can get worried and ask us the same question 3 times about what's going to happen, or what an upcoming plan will be, but I feel like that is also common with anxiety.

What does it sound like to you guys? My impression is that a clinical diagnosis means that it significantly impacts daily life and requires more support, but based on what we've been observing, it doesn't seem to be greatly impacting his life.

It doesn't matter too much, and I'm certain that both of us has characteristics on the spectrum, but I'm just curious if it seems like the psychologist slightly overdiagnosed him. Thanks!

Switching from public to private for sensory needs?

Has anyone started their kid at public school for kindergarten, but then switched to private for 1st grade? My son, who doesn’t have/need an IEP and is on grade level academically, but has mostly sensory issues and some social skills issues, struggled with public kindergarten. He loves his teacher, but still complains about not wanting to go to school. He’s made some friends, but nobody that he asks about hanging out with outside of school.

Anyways, we were chatting with his psychologist and asking her about a private school that is close to his current school, and if that might be a good option. I had done two tours of the school with my son a few months into his kindergarten year when he was still having such a hard time, and he liked the kindergarten teacher but was also scared about going to a new place and had finally made a friend, so we kept him in public school for K. But we have signed him up for the new school for first grade. The school has all the benefits of private school: small size, more attention, they have 2 recesses instead of 1!

He seemed ok when I talked to him about it, but I’m worried about the transition. I’m also worried that most of the kids will already know each other and that it might make things harder for my son socially. I know we can change back if needed, but it’s stressing me out!

Long post, but the main question is: did you switch early on from a public to private school, and how was the adjustment, especially from a social standpoint?

Favorite body sunscreens?

I have my favorite, more expensive ones I use on my face and neck, but I’m wanting to try out some different body sunscreens. I’ve been using Black girl sunscreen (sorry but that’s the name, lol) which I like, and have used Blue Lizard in the past. Any other ones you like that go on smoothly? I’m open to mineral, chemical, hybrid!

Should I move these morning glories and keep the wisteria?

We’ve been here 3 summers and wisteria was already planted. Nothing has bloomed in that time, so I planted morning glories, thinking I would remove the wisteria. But now it looks like the wisteria might actually produce something this year. What do you think? Should I keep it another year and see what happens? I’d imagine the morning glories will compete, so maybe I should transplant them? I planted them about a week ago. Advice appreciated!

Do I really need mulch for the summer?

Moved to MN two years ago and we have been planting a bunch of natives, shade perennials, herbs/fruits/vegetables, and some annuals. I have read that people sometimes mulch due to the intense heat during the summer. We were planning to let them be and just water, but thought I would ask how many people mulch/how important it is? Thanks!

Did I plant too close to the garden bed edge??

I just planted some cucumber and strawberries. I am looking at them, and realize that the cucumber especially is only like 2-3 inches away from the edge of the raised metal bed. Should I try to move it? I don’t want to cause extra stress on the plant, though it will only be a day after planting. Or should I just let it be??

Tony Moly Spot Toning Sun Ampoule

My sister bought this for me on her trip and I’m not sure what order to apply with my other products. I see it has sunscreen in it, so I’m assuming I shouldn’t layer much on top of it? I like to use a light layer of moisturizer in the morning. Should I apply this before or after moisturizer? Can I put makeup on top of it?

Thanks!
