What is happening and what to do?
I (28F) will try to keep it long story short. I’m struggling with acne and can’t tell exactly why or what to do. This is new for me. A couple months ago an early summer started where I live in California. I was swimming in the pool for a few days and just my chest broke out in so much acne. I thought it was fungal, used an anti dandruff shampoo as a mask for a week, it didn’t help. Then I ran out of my holy grail EltaMD Clear SPF with niacinamide, and accidentally ordered the EltaMD Daily SPF. After about a week of using the daily SPF my face started breaking out badly. I also had the most stressful couple weeks. I kept my routine simple as I always do, to no avail. I did skip the vanicream moisturizer and just did squalane. Didn’t help. A friend gave me PanOxyl acne wash and I was hesitant because that seems so drying. After two days of use my acne was so angry. I stopped. I ordered my EltaMD Clear SPF and I’m in the Carribbean on vacation so my acne is thankfully starting to dry out from the sun and salt. Then I ran out of my vanicream facial cleanser! So I bought the Bioderma Sensibio cleanser, it’s all they had here on the island. Usually I don’t cleanse twice a day but it’s so humid and sticky here I have been. My skin is still breaking out somewhat, but most of the spots are healing. The acne is also so itchy and covers my neck. What to do?
This is my usual skincare routine:
AM
- no cleanse, just water
- rose (no essential oils) Hydrosol
- vanicream daily facial moisturizer (if I need a little more moisture)
- Elta MD Clear SPF
PM
- double cleanse with vanicream gentle cleanser
- rose hydrosol
- Vanicream daily facial moisturizer
- the ordinary squalane
Current Carribbean skincare:
AM
- just water or Bioderma Sensibio if sweaty
- EltaMD clear SPF
PM
- double cleanse with Bioderma Sensibio
- vanicream daily facial moisturizer
It has been so humid here I haven’t even added squalane
Blue crab?
Saw this gorgeous crab and all of her babies crossing the street tonight. Is she a blue crab? There were several others crossing too. Kind of by puerto abrigo. I read that a big blue crab migration is coming up, but usually into the sea to have their babies. She was leaving the sea and walking towards the jungle. Why was she doing this?
Tools for starting out
Hi y’all! I am ready to buy tools for my bench at home. I don’t want to buy a kit, and I’ll be buying a few at a time.
Besides silver and cabs, what are the top two tools you would recommend I buy first?
Where to go (with cicadas in mind)?
My partner and I are planning a short trip to Costa Rica in the next couple of weeks, so end of June or early July. Neither of us have been to Costa Rica. My partner grew up in Cozumel, Mexico so we love the Caribbean. We love a slow, chill lifestyle. We love to surf and spend a lot of time in the ocean. We don’t drink or party. We want to explore nature and culture. He is fluent in Spanish, I’m not quite there yet but learning. We enjoy local spots and learning about the culture. We don’t typically enjoy the tourist or party scene. We are fine being somewhere where we can walk most places.
With that being said, I am super sensitive to sound. The cicada sounds would be difficult for me. We are trying to find a place that fits what we are looking for but that isn’t full of cicada sounds. I heard it is wet season right now so that better.
Any recommendations?
Seeking a haircare routine for fine, bleached hair to reduce breakage
This is unbrushed hair btw. I usually get a balayage once a year. But I missed last year, so this is two years of growth. It’s pretty much my natural hair with some bleached ends from the old balayage and sun. I spend a lot of time in the sun, in the ocean, and spent a few months on islands near the equator so my hair is pretty damaged. I am getting a balayage (don’t come for me it’s my once a year bleach lol) and a cut tomorrow, and would like to focus on growing my hair out to be long and thick. This is the longest it’s ever been but the ends break off and are so thin like a paint brush. Usually I just do pureology sheer shampoo and conditioner, nothing else. I am a natural crunchy girly so I don’t like anything with too many fragrances or toxins.
- my hair is oily!
- I have very fine hair but a lot of it, I don’t thin at the scalp
- my ends are brittle and break off
- I can’t be bothered to ever use heat or style
- I will be better at getting more trims. I literally haven’t cut it in over a year I don’t think.
Please help! Thank you! 🤍
Guess my big three 🤍
Sun, moon, ASC, (hint, I have two stelliums)!
Bad time to get into silversmithing?
I just made my first ring and it completely lit me up. I’m a potter and never thought I’d enjoy another form of art more than wheel throwing but here I am! So I’m looking into buying tools and such to begin making jewelry. My jaw dropped when I saw how expensive silver is. Some folks are saying it’s a bad time to get into jewelry making but I don’t want to let that stop me. But dang!
My first piece of jewelry ever!
I had to rush out of the class so I wasn’t able to polish it as much as I’d like to, but I am so happy.
