Michigan versus WMU

Hi everyone.

I'm going to be doing a road trip in the states in September, flying over from Europe and visiting lots of different breweries.

I was planning on going to Detroit, but someone recommended Homes brewing in Ann Arbor. I'd arrive potentially on the day that Michigan takes on WMU. I'm a fan of college football and have been to watch USC and Cal Bears games before. Michigan stadium is famous for being one of the biggest stadiums in the world, so it would be cool to experience a game here.

Will this game sellout. Am I best securing a ticket now, or waiting closer to the time. Also, any tips on where to enjoy the best tailgating experience. Any recommendations on the best place to sit in the stadium for the best atmosphere.

Thanks in advance.

One Star Reviews For Establishments That Refuse To Serve You Tap Water

Inspired by the recent post I saw on here about leaving one star reviews for places that show a tipping option when paying by card.

I do the same but for places that flat out refuse to serve you tap water. We went to a pizza restaurant recently and ordered a few pizzas and beers and wine. Like having water with my meal for digestion and to keep hydrated whilst drinking alcohol. Refused to serve tap water and came up with some feeble excuse. The food was good, but wouldn't return because of this. I left a review on Google maps and the owner went off on a big rant.

It is well known nowadays for the detrimental effects of bottled water and tap water is perfectly fine and drinkable in Amsterdam, it is about time it became mandatory to serve it like is the case in other countries. Is this a pet peeve of anyone else.

AMS to ORD or JFK Economy to Business

I've flown with KLM business a few times, using different strategies, such as points, attractive price, upgrade at check in. That was on a flight from AMS to MEX and was €700 and €800 each way from memory, which I was happy to pay. I flew to JFK last year, outbound via Delta and coming back on KLM, but both booked via KLM. I didn't have any option in the app that time to upgrade and asked at the gate about the possibility from JKF, but they quoted a ridiculously price. Are upgrades still possible from the app if I have booked the lowest grade of ticket in economy and are my chances better on a flight to JFK or ORD.

Private firms are fining Dutch festival goers caught with drugs - DutchNews.nl

What the hell, how long has this been going on. What happened to the Netherlands being a liberal place with a live and let live attitude. This is the kind of crap that I expect in a police state like Australia. Since when can private companies give out fines to members of the public. How on earth is this type of crap legal. What would happen if you refused to cooperate with them. People should vote with their feet and boycott any festivals where this is happening.

Moving from Amsterdam to Chicago

After some advice about potentially moving to Chicago from Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is a great city and I feel pretty settled here. However, I've always had a fascination with the states and always enjoyed my visits there. Love the diversity of the landscape and the people and always found Americans on the whole to be pretty friendly. I'm from the UK originally and lived in Australia and the Netherlands for several years, so part of me says let's try a new adventure.

I'm lucky enough to have been able to have bought a place in Amsterdam and would like to do the same in Chicago. However, as I'm not a US citizen, I've read that I would need to be able to put down a twenty percent deposit and the interest rates seem to be pretty high too. What is the rental market like over there at the moment.

I'm a huge fan of craft beer and Chicago seems like a great place for that. It seems like most of the places are in the north part of the city and the soccer team that I support also has a branch who also meets in the north part of the city, so it seems like this would be the best place for me to live. Also into my food and dive bars and natural wines. During the week I like to keep a low profile and hit the gym and then on the weekend get out on my racing bike and then head out afterwards exploring different bars and restaurants. My office that I'd be based at is next to the Willis Tower, so would be good to be based with good transport links to here.

Is there anyone who has done the same move, or even in reverse. Would be great to hear from you and just general advice from people who are either from Chicago or lived there.

Thank you

Cabin Crew Not Allowed Visible Tattoos

An article just popped up on my phone about KLM cabin crew. Whilst reading the article, it stated the requirements and one of them was that you are not allowed visible tattoos. I find this quite surprising that this is a requirement in this day and age and also because dutch society on the whole is about live and let live.

Flying to Barcelona tomorrow and just wondered if I will receive a drink and snack onboard. Has anyone flown this route lately. Hopefully this isn't one of the routes where they have stopped this service.

I was at Lidl today and went to use the statiegeld machine for some cans that I had. Of the four cans, only one would work. Usually the employers will swap them out for some cans in the back. I spoke to an employee and he said that it was because they didn't sell them at Lidl. I said that they have to accept them by law for cans and plastic bottles if they have a statiegeld logo on them. He was new and was a bit nervous about swapping them out, which is fair enough. So he told me to speak to the security. He agreed to swap them, albeit with bottles which are worth less because he said that they didn't have any cans. He also mentioned that Lidl isn't required to follow the statiegeld for items it doesn't sell, because it is German. I know that certain supermarkets are exempt, like your local Turkish supermarket, because it would be too costly for them. But I've never heard of this before. Surely if they are operating in the Netherlands and considering their size, then they have to follow the same statiegeld rules as the Dutch based supermarkets.
