After a year messing with Addy’s, today I tried meth.

I had promised myself I’d never stoop to this level, but my Addy withdrawals were excruciating. I had an opportunity and jumped on it. It feels spectacular, but I’m know if in for it in the long run. Desperately want to cut this shit off before I run into an oncoming buzz saw. Thankfully opportunities to try meth don’t come along often.

Does anyone feel like Substack is more intellectual than other social platforms?

Maybe it’s because of the long-form articles people post, or maybe I’ve just self-censored who I subscribe to, but I feel as if Substack is more intellectual than other platforms out there. Are people actually taking the time to read other people’s writing again?

This was posted to the Instagram of an IDF soldier. Make him famous.

This Palestinian man was kidnapped by the "Netzah Yehuda" battalion affiliated with the Israeli Kfir Brigade.

And the one who took the photo is Josef Benamou, who posted it to his Instagram account yesterday, 6/30/26. He is in the second picture.
Let’s do our part in spreading this so that these IDF scum know it’s not cool to commit war crimes.

Edit: The Palestinian hostage in the attached photo has been identified as Amin al-Ghoul. His family confirmed that he was abducted on November 14, 2023 and remains in Israeli captivity. God be with him as he endures the worst moments of his life.

Picked this up at a local bookstore

Really fascinating read so far! It explores the history of cats from the first archeological discoveries until the present day, paying special attention to Egypt, Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages, and debunking some common myths about cats.

3-year-old boy shot by Israeli sniper in central Gaza

This child was shot and killed on or just before June 15, so forgive me if I missed another post about him.

His name was Rayan Abu al-Ajeen, and he was only three. He was being carried by his father in central Gaza when he was shot through the left eye by an Israeli sniper. His father, hit in the knee, lie helpless and injured on the ground as he watched his son die.

While we likely will never know the name of the person who pulled the trigger, we do know Rayan’s name. Take a moment to remember him.

As a recovering addict, I can’t tell you how much this angers me

For anyone who’s curious, Israel has been accused of smuggling drugs to Gaza before, so this is nothing new. However, the way they so blatantly dropped this package of drugs into Nuseirat is just unfathomable. They, of course, are hoping to addict as many people as possible.

100% of Gazans have been traumatized. The “classic” symptoms of PTSD are not even applicable to them; they are said to be suffering from CTSD- Chronic Traumatic Stress Disorder. Drug use and addiction are inherently linked to trauma, and so Gazans, particularly youth, are dramatically more susceptible to addiction.

The last thing Gaza needs is another problem to compound the rest. Israel weaponizes hunger, fear, and now trauma and addiction. How much more heartbreak and pain can the Palestinians possibly endure?

It’s not a new story, but Al Jazeera did an investigative film which detailed children being intentionally shot in the head or chest. For some reason this disturbed me worse than almost anything I’ve seen in the last two years.

Of course it’s no worse than children being killed by airstrikes or hunger or anything else, but for some reason the idea of a person viewing a child through a telescopic rifle scope and deciding to blow their brains out, is absolutely haunting me.

The IDF is a terrorist organization, from top to bottom. It’s laughable to me how Hamas is designated a terrorist organization yet there are people walking around free in Israel right now who murdered children.

Never stop talking about this. We must continue to do everything we can to stop this genocide from continuing.

▲ 9 r/Sufism

Does anyone have an opinion on Frithjof Schuon? He has written multiple books on religion, pluralism, and Sufism. I’m interested to know if his work is considered legitimate from a Sufi perspective. I know he’s very pluralistic, and probably views all religions as having elements of truth.

He founded a Sufi order called the Maryammiya as a branch of the Shadhiliyyah. The order places special emphasis on Mary, mother of Christ.

I am a convert to Islam. I recently wrote an article on Substack which focused on the way The Virgin Mary is viewed in both Catholicism and Islam. I was inspired to do this because I have a close friend who is Catholic, and we have been able to really bond over our shared admiration for Mary.

In Catholicism, Mary is viewed as Theotokos or God-bearer. In Islam she is the only woman mentioned by name in the Quran, and she is seen as highly devout, obedient, and willing. I read in The Study Quran that Mary represents the primordial fitrah, or the predisposition of human beings toward belief in God.

I used a variety of texts, primary among them The Bible and the Quran of course. I even threw in an apocryphal gospel and stories from a book titled The Lives of the Prophets by Abu Ishaq Al-Talabi, which is a non-canon collection of stories about the prophets and important figures in Islam.

Mary is obviously cherished by Catholics and Muslims, alike. But what about other denominations of Christianity? How is she viewed by Protestants? Do you have any reservations about her perpetual virginity?

Fellow Muslims, Catholics, and people of all or no faiths, feel free to respond if you have a special attachment to Mary or you’d like to discuss anything about her role in these different faiths.
