So... when did the cluster feeding end for you?

Ftm to an exclusively formula fed 4 month old and I feel like there has been a growth spurt or developmental change that causes cluster feeding every other week!

Babe just had 14.5oz formula in one 3.5 hour wake window before bed (two 6oz bottles and a 2.5oz top up). It was a mad dash to bath her and eat ourselves between all this.

She has been doing this most nights for about a week! We offer 7oz at each main feed throughout the day but she usually pushes it away at 6oz.

The NHS advises that most babies should be over cluster feeding by the end of 4 months so... parents of older babies, did it stop? When? And any related advice hugely appreciated

MIL wants me to let baby go hungry

Husband and I have a 3 month old baby girl. Shes clearly going through a growth spurt because we get her weight checked regularly. She takes a bottle of formula every 3 hours during the day. It is on the larger volume for her age (6 to 7oz) but she usually finishes it comfortably. She has mild reflux.

Twice this week MIL has been at our place and baby has started crying. Same exact situation both times. I look at the clock, see it has been almost 3 hours since baby's last feed and start preparing a bottle.

Bottle is ready. I ask "MIL, do you want to feed baby or shall I?". By this point baby has escalated crying.

MIL replies "she cannot possibly be hungry, its not been that long since the last feed. I bet she has a tummy pain. I bet she is bored." MIL dances baby around for a good 15 minutes with baby wailing.

By this point baby is too distraught to even eat without me calming her with her dummy first.

After this happened yesterday MIL's comments were not an apology but rather "baby should be able to go longer between bottles now, the packet says three to four hours. Wouldn't four be nicer? Wasnt she going almost four a few weeks back?"

I said babies are not robots and you need to feed them when they are hungry.

Husband asked her to leave abruptly. But when she had gone he said we wanted to ask a professional this week why our baby is "so hungry all the time" because maybe mil "has a point".

The way she gets into his head infuriated me. Also v sad because I am dealing with PPD and MIL is the most available person we have to watch baby for a few hours so I can go to therapy/have some me time etc. She used to be wonderful with baby in the newborn phase but now whenever I give advice about baby schedule or cues to her she takes it as an insult ("I DO know how to care for a child, you know")

I guess I am just grieving the idea of unconditional support with baby. I am also scared of leaving baby with MIL for hours in case she lets her go hungry. But shes meant to have her on friday night! And I have zero idea how to have a productive conversation with her!

My hair is already falling out but this makes me want to rip out even mooooore

Soothing ladder and drowsy but awake

Am i making a rod for my own back, or just letting baby do baby stuff and overly worrying about future sleep associations that may or may not cause issues?

My LO is 12 weeks old and will not be put to sleep in my arms any more. I usually get her drowsy but awake for nights and naps, then set her down. If she doesnt settle I use the soothing ladder but ensure her dummy is out before sleep at night (naps are proving too difficult to do this yet!)

Have tried FIO with mixed success for both nights and naps. Shes been out of the swaddle for about a week and self settles using her hands.

As naps are 45 minutes exactly, and she takes 5 a day with wake up time of 7 to 7.30am and Ww of about 1.5, the sample schedules for most programmers do not fit. I asked the creators of one schedule and they suggested Ferber for all naps (cap at 35 mins) and nights (cap at 60 mins) but she seems too young!

So my questions are:

- will drowsy but awake or soothing ladder cause issues in future?

- is having 45 minute naps a problem at her age?

- do i really need to push removing the dummy for naps right now?

Laying the foundations at 2 months, looking ahead to 4 months

Hi yall

My LO is 9 weeks old and I feel ive only got the hang of a vague nap schedule for her this past week.

I struggle badly with PPD and PPA so while im enjoying this I am already dreading the 4 month sleep regrssion and thinking further ahead!

Can someone explain to me like i am five...

- whether there is anything we can do now to make the regression less brutal when it comes?

- whether you sleep train during the 4 month regression or not (PLS says to wait until 6 months??)

- whether you sleep train at the same time as moving baby from your room to her own nursery

How are you all leaving the house??

What the title says. I feel like i am pushing a boulder uphill every 3 freaking hours. Feed, burp, hold upright, and then 20 or 30 mins of LO being agreeable before she starts fussing from being tired.

LO is 9 weeks old, bottle fed, and will rarely nap in the pram but will reliably nap in the car. I have a carrier but am not confident getting baby into it without a mirror or a second person to help!

Timing going out feels like a military operation and even then she might cry from being tired or throw up from being in the pram too soon after a feed.

Yet I see other people with babies not much older planning holidays abroad?!

What's your exact method for getting out of the house for longer than 30 min?

Are crap naps forever?

FTM here so maybe a stupid question!

My 8 week old has not napped a lot in the day, consistently, for around 3 weeks now. She will often do just 20 minutes at a time regardless of whether it's a contact nap, in her carrier, in her pram, or if put down.

I always try and offer a nap but sometimes she will not nap at all between feedings. She's EFF and eats about every 3 hours in the daytime.

She is, however, starting to give longer stretches at night and getting a total of 10+ hours in a night most days with 1 to 2 wakes.

All of the popular schedules I see and advice i see includes day naps of 1.5 to 2 hours, which she used to do in the sleepy potato phase but she's super alert now.

Is there anything I can do for better naps? And will short naps be bad for her development or is this just an individual baby/temperament thing that i am fretting about over nothing?

Have never meaningfully put her for a nap... and only feed to sleep. 4 weeks. have I fuck ed it?

Baby is almost 4wks. Ebf. First week she was sleepy or feeding all day. I either held her for sleep or someone else did or she went off in her stroller. Usually after food.

Week 2 was a heatwave we had to stay with family to keep her cool. mil would have me feed to sleep then send me off to sleep. If she woke and wouldn't settle without a feed she'd wake me. Otherwise she would re settle with rocking swaying singing dummy. Daytimes again sleep was held, in stroller or car, after feeding. I didnt understand how mil got her to sleep.

Since we came home almost 2 weeks ago ive wilted. She started to complain a lot and stopped pooping. Mil came to stay overnight each night again to protect my sleep and eating.

Spoiler -baby had lost weight from me not knowing how to latch and her having neck pains.

Lactation consultant and doctor are helping me fixthis with top up formula feeds. I now see a relaxed content baby who i could actually swaddle awake and feed before crying. The difference is stark.

I can now understand in principle how to settle for naps and sleep. I am still a milk machine tho only lol.

How do i start putting her down for naps and building confidence in working alone for night sleep? Am I too late? Is it even wise or should I focus on feeding only and support mil with night times only?

Bedtime routine has been that i feed her to sleep about 10pm, swaddle in a love2dream, mil and I wait for deep sleep, transfer to bassinet, rock bassinet to resettle if needed.

No white noise or red light. Ahe usually wakes 2 times but we dont pick her up for stirring or active sleep.

Mornings start when they start. We try and look for wake windows but the morning nap seems impossible without a car. She fights for a long morning window.

sorry for rambling I just feel ive missed something huge and that we have regressed. I feel unfit to mother.

Am i over thinking my 3 week old

She's EBF (boob only was advised not to pump until 6 weeks when supply regulates) and above birth weight. No medical concerns from our team.

Just as the health visitor cleared us to go for longer stretches at night, she started rejecting her bassinet (waking 1 hour max after being set down and spending all of that hour grunting and squirming). She did two three hour stretxhes a night prior.

Have had to sleep with her on me and have husband watch us, or sleep with her in the bed... she wants contaxt and she wants help to fart

At night she nurses to sleep only, 0 luck with rockong etc. this means I have to Syke up for a transfer.

Any advice? Is it normal for her to want to sleep on me only, and to nurse, or am I making things worse

Also most naps are contact unless car/carrier/walk. I can't just "put the baby down"

Coslept for the first time last night unplanned

Have a 3 week old and the last 2 days shes been wanting help to fart after I failed to burp her enough (I think).

Id set her down in her next to me and she would break dance, throwing her legs up. Last night that made her fart several times so I picked her up and did more massages etc

Even after that, she wouldn't go into deep sleep for 2+ hours. Only for a few seconds then startle. I started to fall asleep with her in my arms. My husband was asleep and i couldnt wake hkm.

In desperation I went into the spare room which has a firm bed with no extras, no gap, plenty of space. Quickly got into cuddle curl and cupped her a bit to contain the startling. She remained on her back a few inches off my body. I tucked my shirt into my trousers and my other hand up above my head.

She slept a 4 hour stretch, then two. No diapers, no fussing - just a feed of less than 10 minutes

debating whether i did the right thing to avoid unsafe sleep with blankets and hubby in own bed. Worried she will only settle like this again. Anh way to set my mind at ease?

I meet the safe sleep 7 criteria and k ow how to cuddle curl but would appreciate reassurance or tips. Deffo over thinking!! Under confident!

Setting baby down safe supervised naps

Hi all

I have a 3 week old who will only contact nap in the day. She goes in her bassinet in a swaddle at night but after the morning she will only sleep on people.

Im EBF, been told not to pump or give formula for a few more days.

Baby shortening her night stretches so im looking for somewhere for safe supervised day naps that isn't on my lap or on the carrier.

Options I can see are:

Najell sleep carrier

Purflo nest
Large dock a tot nest

Any experience any way?

Looking for something for supervised naps only i think the risk of relying on them for night is too risky. Also looking for something that will last longer

Situational info"

I live with my husband but he has a disability and isn't confident wearing a carrier. He can hold her in arms/on chest but this prevents him from doing anything and he's back at work soon wfh.

he also cant do night shifts as hes scared to put baby in our bed to change her with me also sleeping there.

His mum has been a great help but she cant be here all day every day holding or walking baby.

Due with my first baby in a matter of weeks.

Booked newborn photos with husband. We are both looking forward to capturing her while she is teeny tiny!

The photographer's package includes two adults and the baby, then there's a small additional charge for any siblings or dogs.

Her style of photos shows the couple's love for each other and their little one as much as it shows off the new baby. Im talking lots of hand holding, cuddling, forehead kisses, etc. Like an engagement shoot but add a baby lol

Nowhere on her website does the photographer list additional costs for additional adults; its pretty obvious this is not the done thing.

Husband told PIL we have this planned and they started the puppy dog eyes of how it would be "soooo nice to have professional photos with their first grandchild".

I explained to them that the session we have already paid 50% for includes 2 adults and cant be ammended now, but that it would be lovely to get group professional pics for baby's first Christmas and to hire a photographer for her baptism. Husband also offered to try his hand at taking newborn pics with his parents.

FIL said that all sounds great but...

MIL is now mumbling that she wants pro pictures sooner than that. Husbands pictures apparently not good enough.

important context: She complained about our wedding photographer taking "too many photos" of husband getting ready with his party and not enough of him and her, and not enough of her and her siblings. Everyone else said our wedding photos are gorgeous and that the photographer worked hard.

Im literally hitting my head against the wall here.

My own parents have both passed so its been hard navigating pregnancy without their advice etc
