Grab Your Deck - Skateboarding Roguelike Deckbuilder

Hey! A while back I had the idea for a deckbuilder that let you compose skateboarding tricks by combining the basic moves into their named versions. I built the trick engine first, and then added the game around it. Steam just approved my store page, and the demo should be live as soon as that’s approved too!

I heavily used AI assistance in the development of the game. None of the assets in the game are AI generated, but the code is AI assisted. I’m a software developer for my day job and very much in the AI space, and use it for productivity, not replacement. The 3D assets are mostly from Synty (the skater and deck are made by me and blender), I purchased one music track, and the 2D graphics are by my hand. Before release, the main focus is additional hand authored content and depth/balance work.

Does anyone have a MacBook with TouchBar?

Not an ask even, but I always scoffed at the OLED TouchBar on a line of MacBooks as mostly useless. But it actually seems like an absolutely perfect way to interact with claude code - muscle memory for common options that change (accept, always accept, accept->auto, etc) + extra context and background acceptance (what am I accepting in the TouchBar along with the buttons)

Learning DaVinci Resolve because my last trailer was worse than this one

Grow/Tend/Reap is a roguelite deckbuilder set on a farm. The core card loop is tight, you play three seasons per year against one of three separate quotas. A cast of three characters helps guide you through these different approaches to farming with their own unique decks and strategies. The hard part now is polish and marketing. I made a fun game, now I get to learn art and marketing and editing and social media and direction and Discord and… it’s a blast honestly.

Indie game dev commissioning character portraits, logo, and style reference for solo project. Budget $500.

Hi all! I'm a solo dev building a farming-deckbuilder called Grow/Tend/Reap. I'm looking to hire one illustrator for a focused commission package.

About the project: GTR is a turn-based farming deckbuilder with three character pillars. The world is grounded and warm with a Stardew-adjacent aesthetic. The three characters are Bean (gentle giant gardener), Tilly (competent professional), and FARMATRON 9.1 (a Wall-E-style corporate farming unit with a 2kb heart). I have a full character voice document I'd share with the commissioned artist.

Scope:
Three character portraits: RPG-style dialogue portraits. Full-body preferred so I can crop as needed for different contexts (dialogue panels, key art compositions, marketing). Hand-drawn aesthetic, looser rather than hyper-polished. I'd provide written character descriptions and existing rough sketches as reference (for character intent, not to clean up).
Logo treatment: for "Grow / Tend / Reap." The conceptual hook: each character embodies one of the three words (FARMATRON = Grow, Bean = Tend, Tilly = Reap). Logo should express this relationship visually. Creative latitude on execution.
Style reference background: rough sketch of the neighborhood (either one or all three farms) in the artist's style, palette established. Looking for a rough establishing sketch rather than a polished scene composition. The piece sets visual context (palette, environment style, neighborhood feel) and is usable both as my style reference and as a background in finished assets.

Budget: $500 total for all five pieces (three portraits, logo, background). Open to discussion on scope adjustments if needed.

Timeline: Flexible. Current goal is participation in Steam Next Fest in October, so anywhere in the next 6-8 weeks works.

Usage: In-game art (dialogue portraits, UI), marketing material (Steam page, devlog posts, social media), derivative works that I create myself in the established style. No resale of the original art files.

About the project's state: GTR has been in development for about 9 months as my solo project. The Steam page is live, I'm trying to build my devlog muscle, and the demo is targeting October. The core game is done while I work on roster, balance, art, and ancillary systems (ascension, upgrades, etc). What I'm hiring out for is the visual identity layer that's currently held together by my (very) rough sketches. Happy to share a gameplay video, Steam page link, or figure out how to make you my first official playtester.

What I bring: clear creative direction (full Character Voices doc available), established worldbuilding, web-dev background so I can handle file format and asset preparation on my end. I'm doing the compositing and final asset production myself; you're handling the character design and rendering. Portfolio fit: I'm looking for hand-drawn and illustrative work with character focus. Not anime, not hyper-realistic.

Reply here or DM with portfolio and rate info. Happy to chat more about the project before committing.

I’ve had the idea for this deckbuilder for a long time. In March I revisited it and began developing it once more, and got a tight gameplay loop that feels really rewarding and tense with the farming spatial and temporal aspect.

Then I heard about Deck Builders Fest, and crammed hard to make it look like… something. I’m simultaneously learning blender, godot, aseprite, and freaking marketing all at once. While it doesn’t yet look like how I envision a future version, it’s coming along! I missed being demo ready, and only cut together the rough trailer last night.

Hope everyone finds some fun new games this week!
