Are they gate keeping the tech?

Alright, so just hear me out. Across the board for the major brands they have all the science, the tech, the data….so are they intentionally handicapping their own products so they can continue to produce barely iterative products? Take the SL9 for example. It saves 4 Watts over the outgoing model with just a few tweaks. Did they really just figure out these design tweaks now and not while testing the SL8? Are they saving the huge advances for an SL10?

We know that brands are usually a few generations ahead. I feel positive that Specialized and others are just sitting on incredible product.

Trek just ditched the Isospeed decoupler. Will the next roubaix ditch the future shock? If they do, how long will they have known they could do so?

Am I just a cynical man screaming into the void?

Hydration and Fueling - two bottle strategy?

Traditionally I've always just kept my water bottles as just water and left nutrition and electrolytes to consumables like gu, shot blocks, etc. I'm now looking at using products like EFS and other carb and electrolyte combos. Are people adding these mixes to BOTH bottles or just one. I can't quite imagine not having just plain water. I'm getting ready for a 100 mile gravel event where I'll have three aid stations so doing one bottle of each doesn't seem so bad.

Coros Dura integration?

I've been increasingly looking at TrainerRoad but it doesn't look like there is an integration with the Coros Dura bike computer. Am I wrong? I definitely want to just sync workouts to the device without using any kind of workarounds.

Generating power on Tarmac SL8 vs Salsa Flyway

So, something I've noticed lately is that I have a much easier time generating higher power numbers when I'm riding my gravel bike, a Salsa Flyway, than I do on my SL8. I'm wondering what this is but my guess is a combination of things. Different geometry, heavier wheels/tires, etc. It could very well be my form as well. All my power PRs have come from the Flyway.

15 second sprint at 905 watts

30 second sprint at 760 watts

60 seconds at 486 watts

I'm not really even getting close on my Tarmac. This is not a complaint it just is interesting to notice. I'm curious if anybody else finds it easier to generate higher numbers with their gravel rigs? My hour power is higher as well on the Flyway but the longer the effort the less noticeable the disparity is.

Raw Fiberglass Topper - Headliner or Other options to cover interior?

So last year I had purchased an ARB topper and opted not to have a headliner installed because at the time I had to do all sorts of actual truck shit and didn't want to get it dirty. I'm no longer in that position. I am not handy enough to do a headliner install myself. I don't necessarily need a fully upholstered headliner I just want to be able to cover up the raw fiberglass. Anybody have ideas?

Driving me insane - Multicam vertical timeline - Timeline transforms not working

I've done this so many times before but for some reason this isn't working.

Working on a project right now and I'm cutting a handful of social reels for my client. I've created a new vertical timeline for my Multicam edit. To get vertical video I'm just taking my open gate clips and basically adjusting them to fit in the 9:16 frame guide. For my A camera it seems to be working fine. For my B camera it is not and it's leaving dead black space around the clip. Pretty sure there is something obvious that I've left unchecked.

Dura Radar Implementation

Recently picked up a Ravemen NT201. I do really like having this as an option and it is helpful to get a heads up for approaching traffic. I’m curious where implementation falls short. Is it on the radar or the computer. If I bought the highest end radar is the computer still limiting functionality? Here’s a few things I’d like to see the Dura do differently for radar.

  1. Alert tones. Only alert for vehicles approaching at very high speed and a specified angle of approach (like if it’s giving me 2ft of space vs 6). On this same note for the life of god let us adjust the tone volume.
  2. Use the left and right side of screen. If there are two lanes of traffic use the right hand side for the lane closest to me and the left for traffic in the other lane. One I need to pay more attention to and one I don’t.
  3. Dedicated radar page data field. Would love to have more of an overview of the road situation behind me. I’d use this instead of a map field and just put mastic metrics under it.

Generally I really enjoy the coros ecosystem. I find them fully featured and easy to use. The biggest sacrifice is with their displays across all but the pace pro. If they brought that to the Dura even with half the battery life I’d be stoked.

Arizona Sky Islands

This was a project I worked on in 2024 that ultimately never was finished as we had to move back to Colorado. I was following my wife on her journey to document the incredible biodiversity of the Arizona sky islands. This was all shot in the field using a Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6k. I've since moved on to a Pyxis and I really love the images that come from this camera. I'm so excited to have usable auto focus now.

I'm really hoping to start this project back up. The subject matter is incredibly interesting and the biodiversity is astonishing. I need to get around to locating all the old footage so I can redo the color grading as some of it is pretty flat. Oh well.

Hundreds of clips - cut page to isolate all marked ins/outs?

So I had this idea for a documentary a couple of years ago and I filmed hundreds of clips. I'm revisiting the project now after inspiration has struck. Using the speed editor I'm marking ranges in all the clips I plan to use. Is there a way I can then isolate all the marked clips? There likely is a better way to do this that I'm not thinking of.

There isn't really any A-roll as this project is more a narrative told through nature scenes.

Still no 3rd party adapters for Pyxis Swivel Mount?

I love this swivel mount. It's just SO good. Are there really still no adapters that will allow this to mount? I have the whole monitor mount kit but I use a Mid49 cage and handle so that won't work. Looking for something that would slot into a cold shoe or similar. I have a whole kit from Mid49 but I don't always want the camera all rigged out.

Above Category Gravel Climb. Oof that was hard

Took the Salsa Flyway on an adventure today. The main climb was 7.7 miles with an average grade of 7% and climbed 3k feet. Definitely a gnarly ascent. However, the descent was much worse. Picking up tons of speed on -12% grades with switchbacks and cliff edges is a bit sketchy. I didn't want to be on the brakes too much but you just really can't pick up too much speed as you never know when the next washboard section is or a loose corner. Was grateful to have a lightweight rig to ride today because I had 5 liters of water with me for the 100 degree Arizona desert.

Specialized S Works saddles vs Pro

So I’m unsure of the difference. Looking at the S Works Power Evo vs the step down all I can tell is the difference in the rails and the bottom shell. The sworks of course going with carbon rails and not titanium and the shell being carbon vs some kind of composite. I don’t know if there is more material on the S works version or if there is anything else to differentiate the models. Anybody have insight?

Loving my Tarmac SL8

400 miles since I got it a few weeks ago. Slowly working my way up to a full ascent of Mt. Lemmon. Will be easier after losing 30 pounds or so.

New Roval Wheels - Missing O Ring for valve nut?

Got a new set of Roval CL3's and love them. Not exactly a cheap wheel set. The valve locknut is constantly loosing itself and rattling around. There wasn't any kind of rubber o ring/gasket included that will help keep it secure. Anybody have experience with this? I'm looking for something that will help keep that in place.

Absolutely loving this bike. Added the Roval CL3 wheels and this thing absolutely flies. Gotta dial in the fit and then cut the steer tube.

Adding S Works power evo saddle tomorrow.

Oh and before I get snark about the pedals….they’re from Wolf Tooth. They’re lighter than Dura Ace pedals and have a bigger contact patch than Ultegra. I split time between this and my gravel bike so I can utilize my Shimano S-Phyre shoes with both rigs.
