Is there anyone on this sub who lets their hair live their life?

I tried to tame my curls for a very long time and get more definition. But recently someone on this sub posted these really beautiful pictures of models or actresses from the 90s with long curly, frizzy hair. It made me want to question the narrative that curly hair requires so much work and products in order to look good, or that you need to pay $200 at a hair dresser specialized in curly hair. Curly hair left to its own devices can look really great! Frizz can look great. The little baby hair that refuses to stay down? Also great.

So I’ve been doing strictly nothing with my hair for the past few weeks - routine = shampoo, air dry, that’s it - and it’s been very fun! Some days I feel powerful and sexy, some days I look like a mad scientist, and that’s okay! Let’s redefine beauty! Have a great day!

A cool resource on the topic of gender testing in sports

Given how big the conversation is getting about transgender athletes is getting, I wanted to recommend this really great CBC/NPR podcast called « Tested » that talks about the history of gender testing in sports. It’s 6 episodes but really worth the listen if you have questions on the topic and want to have informed discussions.

What’s with the Tempo’s defence?

Last night was painful!!
I only became a WNBA fan this year with the Tempo expansion, and there’s still a lot I don’t understand. Any time I watch the Tempo play, it always seems like the opposing team defends way more aggressively than we do. The players seem to be right in our face to the point where we don’t know what to do next, Marina is completely incapacitated and we get shot clock violations. But when we are defending, we always seem to be so far apart from the player who’s holding the ball, vaguely moving our arms, allowing the other team to take their sweet time to shoot all these perfect 3s.
I thought Sandy wanted the Tempo to be all about defence. What am I missing, what’s her system?

Whole wheat sourdough - what combination of flours do you use?

Hi everyone! I’ve been making sourdough for a few months. I’m lazy, so I’m trying to keep it lowkey and rely on instinct and experiences rather than a strict protocol, but I do try to minimize the amount of white flour that I use as much as possible.
Ingredients:
350g ww + 120g white flour + between 380 and 400g water depending on the starter mood that day + 100g of starter.
Process:
~1 hour autolyse,
a few stretch and folds,
1 lamination,
About 8 hour bulk fermentation
cold fermentation overnight or longer if I can.
Oven on 450, 20-30 min lid on and take it out when inside temperature reached 205

I’m usually quite happy with the result. The texture is always very soft, the crumb is not tooo dense and the flavour is nice. I wouldn’t mind a more airy crumb but I know it’s difficult when using such a high proportion of whole-wheat, so I’ve made my peace with it (But of course welcome your advice in this area too!) (also don’t mind the pic - it looks a bit gummy because I cut it too soon after baking it, but that gives you a good sense of the crumb I’m getting).

I’d like to try to mix in other types of flours (rye, spelt, corn, chickpea, you name it), and minimize the white flour even more if possible, but without getting a heavier/denser crumb. What are your favorite flour combination that include little to no white flour?

The trade deadline is coming up and the team’s in a tough spot, for all the reasons we know. What are your hopes, dreams and fears trade-wise? What do you think will actually happen?

How do different cultures approach making conversation

I’m really curious to learn about how different cultures approach making conversation, whether it’s with a stranger or someone close. What topics do they talk about, how deep they like to go, how vulnerable they feel comfortable getting, how they approach controversies and debates… Would love to listen to a podcast or read a book on the matter! Something accessible to a non specialist.

Podcasts on how people approach conversation across cultures

A very niche question! I’m really curious to learn about how different cultures approach making conversation, whether it’s with a stranger or someone close. What topics do they talk about, how deep they like to go, how vulnerable they feel comfortable getting, how they approach controversies and debates… Would love to listen to a podcast on the matter!

Cretan restaurant in Toronto?

I know there are tons of delicious Greek restaurants in Toronto, but I was wondering if there was a specifically Cretan restaurant. My google search didn’t return any results. I remember from my stay in Greece that Cretan food had distinct flavours and dishes and it was SO delicious 🤤

[IIL] Transmission 2 by DJ shadow

I could listen to Transmission 2 for hours but it’s so short!! I’m looking for similar moody-sad-emotional-sample-based-atmospheric titles 😅
